Any first impression on the notebook? biggrin.gif
*
Well, this is my 1st impression huhu...

my Asus A42JA smile.gif

Performance:

Cpu:
Still cant see the significant of i7-740m. Earlier, i did the backup recovery, and during the same period, i try to download mozilla firefox through the google chrome i've installed earlier. Then my a42ja started to lag. I just leave it for a few minutes (approx 2~3 mins) then everything went smoothly. Then i'd tried to do the same thing again, n likewise, the prob repeated. So, i dont know why, perhaps during the burning the backup dvds, it need a lot of RAM, cpu speed etc. i dont know. so, in the end, i waited the burning session ended, which took me like forever to wait for it (it requires 5 dvd's btw XD)

Gpu:
the ati 5730 so far performs pretty good. It can run metro 2033 without lag (seriously without any lag) with native resolution n default grphic setting with AA n AF on. But havent tried at bigger place/area in metro 2033 yet, since i just played all the way from prologue to 1st chapter. but so far so good.

Temperature:
well, during idle mode, the temp is around 56C on average, during heavy load (during metro 2033) it jump up to 80C ++, it might be hotter if played a lil longer i guess. but i didnt use any cooler, my lappy just place on the wooden table. so i believe the temperature can be reduce more if i use a cooler.

Keyboard :
keyboard reflex is pretty good, silent soft n i like it.

Touchpad :
good, lol... i have no idea what to comment... >__<

Display:
i'm bad at distinguish between good display n not so good display. the only good display so far i think is the xps model n macbook. However, from my observation, it still better than my almost 2 year acer 4937g's monitor.

Sound:
it sucks. i bet even cheaper notebook with cheaper speaker w'out brand can 'own' this useless altec lensing with the fuzzy srs bla3 stuff anytime. but nothing to wrry about, since human kind is so genius we invented the earphone to overcome this kind of problem. so, i think i can overcome this matter with my cx300-II.

and my summary (for now) = with the value of RM 3000, i bet this is the best 14" notebook in the market for now. the closest rival from my research is the a42ja's brother, n43jq which is equip with gt435 n better speaker, but cost +- RM 4000. so, pricewise, asus a42ja is choice. i know some of you might disagree with me, but im cool with that. smile.gif

pros:
i) the ati 5730 (of course since this is the major reason people buy the a42ja) huhu
ii) no idea, might be the same as the above... cool2.gif

cons:
i) nothing good about the speaker, n those who dont know yet, the speaker is located below the notebook, i think it's just a single speaker. besides, the realtek it use sucks big time.
ii) design, which i quite particular, 'i hate it'... if only the notebook design similar to acer 4820tg tongue.gif
iii) the thing that i needed the most is unavailable at this a42ja shakehead.gif there is absolutely no hotkey. all of it use the Fn+ type of hotkey. absolutely no other button except for the keyboard n the switch on power button, the rest use the Fn+ hotkey. if only they can provide hotkey for volume, i would really appreciate it. huhu
iv) only ONE audio jack available (the headphone jack), NO mic etc jack. to me, it's just a small matter, since i rarely used the mic.

btw, im quite curious, from the speccy software i use, it mention there the cpu that is on the a42ja is i7 820QM... shouldn't it be i7 740m? is it the same? thanks in advance for the answer... smile.gif

^ mind telling me your monitor resolution? it happened because of the display ratio. basically for 1280x800 display, it used 4:3, n all the recent display mostly used 16:9 aspect ratio which are the 1366x768, 1280x720, 1920x1080 and so on and so fourth.

if u currently use monitor produced from late 2008 and later, yours would be 16:9 ratio.

well, u can change the setting from the game itself... usually, go to setting/option > video/graphic > resolution, n pick the recommended ress.

Added on December 18, 2010, 2:27 amowh... i just learn something as well from bro lee.... smile.gif so, u can forget my method then... so complicated n old skool... huhu doh.gif
