I guess that makes me one then, because I did change my HDD so I'm still covered by warranty even if I did remove the back cover.  icon_idea.gif

New perk unlocked!  rclxms.gif

Joking aside, I've played a few sessions of BF3 in Multiplayer just now on the laptop, not as butter smooth as my desktop but not bad. I'm getting 25-50fps on High settings in multiplayer(observed with MSI AB), in Campaign though everything is smooth maxed out, apart from a few instances where there's explosions and lots of dust particle effects.

How are you guys faring multiplayer gaming-wise? I know the GPU and CPU is more than enough to handle offline games but I'm sure multiplayer gaming stresses out the CPU a lot more.

All the games I play online (BF3, Hawken, Payday 2) are generally 30FPS able at high/ultra settings, 8x AF and 4x MSAA - I'm more than happy with that.

And yes, the system is taxed more when we're playing online, of course. More people = more things to render.

BTW, I'm in the neck of the woods using Government sponsored WIMAX most of the time so I count my lucky stars that I'm able to BF3 at all lol. Considering net connection is more a source of lag than the my lappy lol.

Have you tried playing on power saving mode on BF3? Is that any framerate drop?

ALL Haswell laptops with the MQ processors CAN be upgraded. If it's HQ, no. Warranty wise... er... keep the old proc for warranty claims and be very "skillful" and leave no traces.

As for GPU, I'm not so sure. At least last time high end MSI lappies come with MXM slots. Nowadays not sure, I know for a fact that higher end Illegear lappies can be modded for the same reason, but MXM cards are rare and expensive to begin with.

@tonberry_ax: Of course, my personal "Power Saving" profile limits my CPU/GPU hard. I'm not sure I can EVEN play BF3 under that profile - even my Japanese "3D entertainment simulations" lag up.

To begin with, the GE40 self throttles under battery even on "High Performance", further reinforcing my notion that it EATS WATTS like... well, something that eats watts. A lot.

So, theoretically if say a gt laptop with 2nd/3rd gen cpu cant be upgraded to 4th gen ? ( or gpu wise) hmm.gif

no... and yes as long built on same architecture let say nanometer ivy-bridge can be up to haswell as long mobo is upgrable as you say GT series yes both CPU/GPU is upgradable but remember to add better cooling or upgrade copper heat sink also and yes better Thermal paste...

here video show you cpu/gpu is upgradable and easy to be maintain...
GT780 part 2

note: if u watch video i dont reccomend wash heat sink with hot tab water..lol i rather use compress air unless you have heat ray like guy in the video... biggrin.gif

interesting stuff. i never thought that someone would wash their heatsinks like that. Anyways, concerning the upgrade, i dont plan on doing it myself ( looks complicated and i am clumsy ) so I will probably send it to a professional. Should be cheaper to upgrade the cpu/gpu rather than purchasing another gaming notebook rite? hmm.gif

yes... theory GT60/70 was meant to last long... as it upgrade capability. this still limit to the hardware that is available, remember once you upgrade cpu/gpu warranty gone (service center if in doubt they may check bios history see cpu/gpu is difference this is why they store win 8 key detail in bios... ) this is my humble opinion and i am noobZz smile.gif biggrin.gif

Well, the upgrade is definitely after their so called "warranty". Since everyone is about the Haswell hype, I thought to probably give it a try in the future.

Well, its not particularly "Howwell" processors, the improvement in nvidia's 7xx series gc is outstanding, more than 50% improvement from 6xx series. Comparing with 5xx series on the other hand.. is just lol.
