I used to either freeze directly after pump (if i want to store longer time) or just in the fridge (if i know it will be used within a day or two).

As for warming the ebm..i used the normal old fashioned way which was thru the cup of hot water. Using the warmer is the faster way.

I didn't take any milk booster pills but diligently boiled fenugreek seeds and drank the water. I think you can get fenugreek pills from GNC.

I'm not sure what really contribute to my wife milk production, but she take Anmum lacta for initial 1st month. Hence, she able to produce abt 13oz at once. She normally pump abt 5times per day. The minimum I see is abt 6-7oz @ once. I had bought more than 50 bottles also not enough, now buy some storage bags too.

Congratulations to your wife!!!

Storage bags are better. I have about 50 bottles at home now, mostly empty since my baby is 18 months old and I dont pump as often as before... but I still long for another baby because I miss being a cow biggrin.gif

Storage bag more costly, because only can use once.

In terms of getting lots of supply...every body is different...so you have to try which ones suits you best. Some tried barley water (i did and it worked), some take oats (this didn't work for me), some take horlicks (this didn't work for me either)..so you have to try and try and see which serves you best.

I only took barley, fenugreek seeds and Fennel Seeds. These worked for me..and oh...lots and lots of water.

Strawberrygirl,

Breastmilk will adjust accordingly for your baby's growth that is why u find that its getting thinner. And sometimes, when the weather is hot, it will be thinner as a thirst quencher for your baby. Don't worry about the texture.

About anmum lacta, try the natural remedies first like fenugreek and make sure u drink more soups or water.. After confinement sure u eat and drink less already right? But no, u must continue to eat like a cow to be like a cow.. smile.gif

It's possible but it's going to be harder than new mommies. You can talk to your gynae about this and ask if you need help by using pharmaceuticals. But you need to direct latch more often than not smile.gif

This is due to foremilk and hindmilk imbalance. Baby is drinking too much foremilk than hindmilk. This is normal and will normalise the next day.

Foremilk is the milk which comes out when the breast is full. Foremilk is higher in water content.
Hindmilk is the milk that comes out when your breast is almost "empty". Hindmilk has higher fat content.

To overcome this, let the baby nurse the breast until he/she "finishes" it.

Hi, tumpang ask a bit. If I pump every 2 hours, what happens if my baby wants to feed right after I pump? Aren't the breasts empty already?

I wanna pump more often to keep more spare but afraid that if I pump so much, the breasts are always nearly empty and my baby has nothing to drink when latch on.  sweat.gif

Hi Laughiebean,

If after you pump, your baby wants to drink, you can either give him/her the pumped milk or just let the baby latch on.
Your breasts will never empty completely because it is constantly making milk.

While it is great to have EBM freezer stash, but the goal here is to feed the baby, not the fridge smile.gif

Not sure how old your baby is, but what i did last time during my early breastfeeding months was, i pump 6 - 8 times a day (i was blessed with oversupply). Say for example i just pumped at 1 pm, my next pumping session is at 4 pm, if the baby actually nursed at 3 - 4 pm, then i skipped the pumping session (or if baby didn't "empty" the breasts, i just pump the rest out to empty it).

The main key is just more demand = more supply. Demand either from pumping session or direct latch.

dear bf mommies..when you are bf during the 1st 6 months..please ensure that you eat properly. I realised that when i eat well...really like a cow..the output is definitely much better quality compared to eating lesser.

For the first 6 months..to hell to anyonewho says that you are not losing weight after pregnancy. we bf moms..need to make sure that we eat right so that all nutrients are passed to our babies.

Actually, I pump to maintain and try to increase supply. My baby is now 11 weeks old. Born at 2.7kg, at 9 weeks, during doc's visit was 5.1kg. I assume I am doing ok here. blush.gif

During confinement, I usually pump right after I feed my son, but now, since I don't have help, I tend to pump later and I feel that lately, I hardly feel that my breast are full (hard and heavy) but soft, like just after feeding or pump. Am worried that I might be drying up though i do eat (not gonna worry bout weight atm) and drink a minimum of 2 litres of liquids. I also drink fenugreek water at least once a day. sweat.gif

Appreciate all advices from experienced bf moms. Thanks.

Laughiebean, that is fantastic smile.gif You are doing the right thing pumping right after you feed your son to stimulate production.

Just some tips with pumping, you should pump and DRAIN both breasts, plus extra 5 - 10 minutes eventhough nothing comes out. This is called dry pumping. The extra 5 - 10 minutes will signal your breasts that you need higher production.

As for the engorgement thing, your baby is almost 3 months, your body is starting to regulate its milk supply. Lack of engorgement does not mean you don't have milk and it is FINE not to feel engorged. As long as you feed on demand, your breasts will not dry out.

Well done mommy!

Good luck smile.gif

If you feel like you are losing volume and your milk production is getting lesser, pump more often. Add more pumping sessions. Five, 10-15 minute sessions are better than two, 25 minute sessions.
