NTFS and FAT32 is for windows..
i believe u must have seen the 'ext2, ext3 and swap linux" in ur partition s.ware..

so, for linux os u have to format ur disk as ext2 or ext3. Than, dont forget about swap linux partition..
*
I don't see any swap linux partition option. sweat.gif

After create new partition manually during installation, ubuntu will pop-up for you to choose for atleast below filesystems :
/ = root filesystem ext2 or ext3
swap = linux-swap filesystem

or any other way to save the current update..??

*
Close the terminal means?
Just close the terminal window, or you mean shutting down the PC?

If you're planning to close the terminal window, you can run it in background, just put '&' behind the command.

what do you mean? same movie can be played sometimes but not all the time?
*
yeah...i tried the same movie, both with beryl on and off.

it seems that when off, it runs fine, but when beryl's on, the movie would be sometimes can be seen, and sometimes cant.i had to move the movie player window so that i can see it, but it'll turn into black again (cant be seen) after 20sec or so...

Are you running Beryl on AIGLX? because that's one reason. I'm afraid there is no best solution up to now. But you can try changing the video rendering from Xvideo to Xshm( if I'm not mistaken that's the name! I'm currently running windows right now for some reason, could not check for you). But in my laptop, gmplayer works well with beryl, only totem and vlc are affected.

edited: I've just found it on beryl's website.
But using xshm will consume your processor very much

Any player should be fine as long it has the appropriate codecs. I love to use gmplayer. It has plugin for firefox. Try searching in synaptic for mozilla-mplayer( uh, not sure, I'm still running windows ).

I'm getting tired of using Windows. For some reason, my computer will crash whenever I inserted a disc into my DVD-RW drive. The drive worked fine outside of Windows OS, for example when booting Windows Installer or Ubuntu Live CD.

I tried Ubuntu 7.04 Live CD. It fulfilled my basic needs like playing audio / video files, browsing internet, and instant messaging. Now I'm considering to install Ubuntu permanently replacing Windows as my computer's OS.

Before doing that, I have a questions:

On the Live CD, the max supported resolution is 1024x768. I've did some research and found out that even after installing Nvidia's GPU driver, the max supported resolution is 1280 x 1024. Is there an easy way to make Ubuntu supports the resolution of 1440x900? I'm using 19" widescreen LCD and that's the native resolution of my display.

Thanks for your time. notworthy.gif

After you install the drivers, run "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" in a terminal then proceed to restart your computer or ctrl + shift + backspace to restart the x server
or you can manually add the resolution into your xorg.conf file in /etc/X11

heres my xorg.conf file, im running the same resolution as you've mentioned, check out the

try using VLC media player..
sudo aptitude install vlc vlc-plugin-*

In order to stream video via vlc, you also need to install the following packages.
sudo aptitude install avahi-daemon
sudo aptitude install avahi-utils

A VLC plug-in for Firefox can also be installed
sudo aptitude install mozilla-plugin-vlc
