Install 'Installer for Microsoft TrueType core fonts', launch Synaptic and type 'ttf-mscorefonts-installer' in your search box

It could be that you stored the wallpaper file inside a drive that is not mounted upon booting. If that's the case move it to your 'Home' folder.

Best video player? My choice is Totem but I like SMPlayer too because it's capable of playing .iso video files on-the-fly (no extraction needed).

Many drivers issues? All my hardware devices worked on my Ubuntu desktop. Which hardware doesn't work for you?

glad that u like it smile.gif the display issue with ati cards r flickery display during video playback, when not in fullscreen. sometimes some newer driver r worst some how...depends on luck. thats y i switch to nvidia...but compiz seems smoother with ati, a bit stutter for nvidia some how sweat.gif

for media player, u can try smplayer(need kde library) or mplayer(native gnome app), most important of all, remember to install restricted stuff wink.gif in aptitude type in restricted on the quick search, they will come up, check n install them. then install smplayer/mplayer, u'll be ready to enjoy movies, but not dvd yet.

What application are you using for playing the video? Try to change the audio device in the application's 'Preferences' to default or ALSA. The screenshot below is an MPlayer Preferences:

Are you using a wired connection? Use Auto eth0:

Use pptp-linux

Client for the proprietary Microsoft Point-to-Point Tunneling
Protocol, PPTP. Allows connection to a PPTP based VPN as used
by employers and some cable and ADSL service providers.

Jaunty failed to connect to the server. I have installed network-manager-pptp, and pptp-linux. The network icon showed some spinning yellow comet and a tiny lock, however it failed to connect and showed no error dialog.

Any idea where I did wrong?

afaik ; functions like a line ending ; in php and the like. a;b;c just means do a then do b and then do c.

a && b && c pretty much does the same thing but it stops executing if a command throws up an error. if a has error, b and c won't run.
