Number 1, Electric drums for live shows just don't make it.

Unless you're on a Roland TD-20 which is RM 30k, number 2.

For number 3, there's still higher grades acoustic drums like DW/Ludwig/etc that can beat Electric drums flat.

I've seen this drum kit before. yawn.gif

Forgotten who's though.

Yup. Its Disturbed drum kit. What SNSD song u playing now?

QUOTE(isaacmiranda7 @ Oct 8 2010, 06:34 PM)
1. Acoustic definitely for live shows, no? smile.gif

2. RM3k budget.... I'd get myself a used set, maybe an old Tama Swingstar for about RM1.5k and get used Iron Cobras...RM600 and cymbals, get a Stagg promo set or the Sabian Recycled series biggrin.gif

3. And if it was an unlimited budget, obviously I'd go for an acoustic set wink.gif Maybe a Tama Warlord Limited Edition set wink.gif But if I were to go for an electric set, I'd pick either the Roland TD20KX or the Yamaha DTXtreme III smile.gif I've played the Yamaha before and it feels so...so... good. smile.gif HAHAHAHA

But of course, the best thing would be to mesh it together biggrin.gif

Anyway, I'm thinking of getting a TD-9 module... Then placing it on a practice pad kit and shifting it around my set smile.gif Your thoughts?
*
Electric kit can also play live but its just not cool enough. Not the quality problem or anything. laugh.gif

How much is the Yamaha? Is it same level as TD20?

There is this feeling difference, sound hearing feeling difference, and appearance difference IMO.

You mean what song I want to cover?

That's of course worth some effects if you have extra plugs. nod.gif

And bold part: QFT.

I think its really vital to use an acoustic set for live shows. Very sure that an electric drum will deliver good sound quality? But, i believe the acoustic set, gives it more kick and life. biggrin.gif So i very much believe live shows need acoustic sets to give the performance a live-lier feel. biggrin.gif

Just my thought.

Well, then your thoughts on the Pearl ePro? Looks and feels like an acoustic drumset smile.gif

Even if you play live with an acoustic set you need monitors...

But personally when I play live I prefer using in-ear monitors smile.gif More focused.. Of course. That is, if everything is mic-ed up lah smile.gif

Pearl e pro sounds good. But i think it will be expensive. Not sure how it compares to td20. If can put more trigger and not so expensive i might get it. Need see review first also la tongue.gif

My ideal drum kit will be 1 snare, 1 bass, 3 toms, 1 floor, 2 crash, 1 ride, 1 china, 1 splash, and 1 hat... Im very simply no need so many funky stuff... But now max trigger for electric i think is 12 trigger only not enuff sad.gif

No one says you must have a full electric drum kit.

You may buy the Pearl ePro and then add acoustic drums.

Fulamak money well spent.

I use electric drum for a show last year in Cherating. It took me around 30 minutes for drum setup and sound check. Plus, I don't have to get my brother's van for transportation. Compare to my previous setup... doh.gif
Furthermore, I can switch the sound in my preset list using foot switch ie after playing Beatles, I can switch the sound to Bee Gees then switch to A.Rahman Hassan.
Talkin about edrum sound for live show, it is common to have drum triggering in live acoustic setup. Especially snare and kick drum.
Too many drummer using the drum trigger to mention. From Jojo Mayer to George Kollias..

Just my opinion

The Pearl E Pro is about RM10k-RM15k if I'm not mistaken smile.gif
If I do get it eventually, it will will after I purchase a good acoustic set smile.gif
People say the TD-20 modules do sound more complete and better, but then again, that has been the end product of years, working with keyboards, synths and electronic drums.

Acoustic sound-wise for the Pearl E-Pro vs the Roland TD-20.... Pearl 1, Roland 0 tongue.gif HAHAHAHAHA!

Actually, it's possible. Many drummers do use a mixture of acoustic and electric drumsets. The difference being, the acoustic is triggered into a module or mic-ed and the electric goes through a module before meeting up in the mixer smile.gif

Why is it different?

The storey below you cannot hear you, your neighbour cannot hear you.

And I think the neighbour above you wouldn't complaint too.

Another way some drummers practice is to buy cymbal pads to reduce noise and to stuff cushion/pillow in them toms and bassdrum till full. The sound will be dead flat and have no bounce.

You might say, how to play without bounce? Well, you can learn to bounch your stick with the pull back stroke like > single hit and then you pull back the stick with your last 3 fingers. The more you practice with this method (single, double, triplets, paradiddles strokes and get up to speed, imagine what you can do when you're playing with proper drum skin with bounce.

Some ineresting thing to try if you will. Take a 50 cent coin and place it on the wall. Start hit the coin with your first stick (right hand) while holding the coin with your left hand. Get up to speed and then take another drum stick with your left hand and start hit the coin as well. Not easy but Lewis Paragasm done it before.

Btw, this tip is from Lewis Paragasm.

Oh yeah I stuff pillows in my bassdrum to prevent my walls from shaking.

Maybe there's a tip there.

Mute pads for cymbals, snares is something you might want to try. I don't use them, though.
