Another way some drummers practice is to buy cymbal pads to reduce noise and to stuff cushion/pillow in them toms and bassdrum till full. The sound will be dead flat and have no bounce.
You might say, how to play without bounce? Well, you can learn to bounch your stick with the pull back stroke like > single hit and then you pull back the stick with your last 3 fingers. The more you practice with this method (single, double, triplets, paradiddles strokes and get up to speed, imagine what you can do when you're playing with proper drum skin with bounce.
Some ineresting thing to try if you will. Take a 50 cent coin and place it on the wall. Start hit the coin with your first stick (right hand) while holding the coin with your left hand. Get up to speed and then take another drum stick with your left hand and start hit the coin as well. Not easy but Lewis Paragasm done it before.
Btw, this tip is from Lewis Paragasm.
