Agree with JSM. At least the interviewer commented that you can speak. Speaking too fast .. that person may not be able to listen to you properly.

got scared when listened to the ' tell me about yourself' question

still remember the first time i went for an interview after my SPM

there are a lot of people that came for the interview so the process have to be done in pairs in order to save some time

I got paired with a lady. u know what happened?

All the time the 2 gatal male interviewers only asked the lady - tell me about yourself

ha ha asked me only a few questions and as expected i didnt get the job sweat.gif

Hmm...if they act so unprofessional during recruitment process, it's not worth it to work for them.

Recruitment/interview is very serious and formal to a company, it should not be taken lightly.

DUH! Dont expect others to tell something about yourself. Ask yourself. Dont tell me u dont know about yourself? Well one tip for you. Tell things that are relevant to them aka to the job. Who wants to know about your 1st date or so. yawn.gif

its norm when they ask you to tell about yourself just to warm things up therefore better be prepared.

or do like this...
QUOTE
Tell me about yourself.
Ineffective: I am a hard-worker who is good with numbers. After I worked as a financial analyst for a few years, I decided to go to law school. I just finished and now am looking for a new challenge.

Effective: I began developing skills relevant to financial planning when I worked as a financial analyst for three years. In that role, I succeeded in multiplying the wealth of my clients by carefully analyzing the market for trends. The return on the portfolios I managed was generally 2% more than most of the portfolios managed by my company. My initiative, planning, and analytic skills were rewarded by two promotions. As the manager of a team, I successfully led them to develop a more efficient and profitable strategy for dealing with new accounts. My subsequent training in the law, including tax law and estate law, gives me an informed view of what types of investments and charitable gifts would be most advantageous for your clients.

dun worry. seldom ppl can give answers like the Effective example. unless u're a robot and can say this stuffs out easily. it might also look like that u memorized it from the interviewer's point of view. better be yourself and just describe urself.

They are probably looking through the resume because the applicant is not offering anything useful or pertinent in their response to the question.

True enough but cover letter is still the most important aspect. They may not look at your resume but im very sure they have gone through your cover letter at least.

When interviewers usually ask me to tell them about myself. most of the time i don't don't long on my education part, mabe few lines or sentences and then straight jump to the working life.

I never thought of using the kind of answers from the Effective example. Just be yourself. no worries.

BTW, i'm having a 2nd interview coming up in 2 weeks time. I've been to only 2 second interviews and both also ended up in dead end. What would be the questions ask or what should i do? advice needed.

Why your expected salary is RM XXXX?

Do you think you worth that amount of salary?
if yes, why you think you worth?
if no, how much salary you think you worth?

Hi,

You never tell the company what is your expected salary. You let the company to make the first offer. In any type of negotiation, whoever make the first offer loses..
