for new purchase, i think most new monitor comes with at least hd ready are compatible with ps3. so less likely ppl will buy a incompatible one..
for old models, if cannot use, means cannot use...no way to get ard also...

older model lcd monitors that don't have hdcp support... so ps3 can't display at all (any resolution = blank screen)

Well even if it's usable now maybe Sony will put another firmware to block any other HDMI signal and u will only use PS3 on a Sony Bravia, just like how they force u to use only dualshock 3 with the latest firmware

Ssup,

If i bought PS3, once i reached home, i believed i have to update to the newest firmware by myself instead of doing it at Sony branch (where i purchased)? Or perhaps i can ask them to update for me on the spot, then for future updates i will do it myself.

Any ideas guys?

use only ds3 is very reasonable, when we bought the console, it actually means we bought the console and the controller..
both are sony very own trademark product, which without any of two it cannot function
by using any other knockoff, sony has and right to block the usage
jailbreak ur ps3, sony has the right to lock ur device and banned for online play
tat's the t&c we agreed wat...
but block on any other monitor than sony bravia...u knew it wont be tat case...

go home update will do la...
all u have to do is to have a internet connection, and 1st time set up it will ask u to check for update
or else, u can always go to setting and update system..

They won't do it for you.

When you try to log into PSN the first time, it will check for latest firmware and will ask you to update it.

Set up an internet connection and the PS3 will notify you on the update
Or you can download the update file, put it in a USB drive. Remember PS3 uses FAT32 only

Anything can happen, they had block things like OS, Controller, USB drive and even go as far as a lawsuit with Linux yet they don't give a damn, so if they really intend to make it only for bravia, all we can do is give a WTF face

i'm pretty piss and was thinking about selling Mine when they block almost all USB device after the firmware update this tuesday, imagine that you can no longer use the controller u like for specific game(Playing Street Fighter on a 4 button layout?), guitar hero controller is no longer proper (will u enjoy guitar hero using DS3???), USB drive that no longer work (including Sony own product, so how u back up save and such now???). The changes make PS3 almost unusable in a way, it's like giving u a vast space to move around but ur leg is locked with chain.

If you wanna blame somebody for sony blocking usb devices, then blame it on the imbecile who made pudu jailbreak. All of this wouldn't have happened in the first place if not for some cheap bastards who only want to play pirate games.

Hmmmm...
I've gotten out a few guitars from GH: WT and Rockband 1 and they all worked fine.
Both third and first party even.

And all my thumbdrives (I've got 13 thumbdrives) are all usuable without issues too...
