I got a PM from someone I'm unfamiliar with, but I wasn't able to help so I told him to post his question here. I don't see any posts by him though, so I thought maybe he hasn't found this thread yet. I was thinking that maybe I could help out by relaying his request here on his behalf. Anyone else got a PM from him? I'm not even sure how he managed to find me or why did he think I could help him. Very strange.

bro r u using the avermedia capture card? U setup by connecting the hdmi from STB to your capture card?
*
No, mine is Compro TV capture card. Mine doesn't have HDMI port but has the S-video connected to STB.

Honestly, I'm not sure the Avermedia would work flawlessly with the STB. If you could get it working with HDMI and provided the price is right, I might even consider getting one of those.

I think it depends of the set top box's HDMI output has HDCP enabled or not. If yes, I believe no legal capture board will record the signal.

I'm keen to know if there's progress on this too. I might upgrade to it if HD recording works. I'm currently capturing via S-Video on a Hauppauge PVR USB.

If you already have the Avermedia, try using the Component inputs ... should be close to HD quality on that.

so apparently they're gonna start charging a nominal fee for the "premium" channels from November 2010. They must be crazy with only a 10 000 subscriber base, trying to nickel and dime consumers.

Actually I don't mind paying for universal, Bbc lifestyle and warner. As long as it's a reasonable price. I already cancelled my astro as I was sick of downtime, repeats and having to subscribe one whole package just for one channel I actually like.

So let's see come november what the price is like...

I'm not sure about the HDCP thing, but what I can tell you is that if I don't update my capture software and the driver itself, I wouldn't get the signal and when I do, my volume control immediately disabled. It automatically disable my audio and I couldn't slide my volume control at all.

Since you have the Hauppauge, can you get the audio working?

If anyone is interested in using LIRC (http://www.lirc.org/) to control your UniFi set top box (Huawei EC2108E) from your PC, I have captured the infrared codes for the remote in LIRC format. The configuration is below.

You can build a serial infrared transmitter from the instructions here: http://www.lirc.org/transmitters.html. With this, you can then write a script in Linux to automate things like changing channels automatically. My purpose for doing this is to integrate the UniFi set top box into a MythtTV (http://www.mythtv.org) environment.

Yeah, my video (via set top box's s-video) and audio (via RCA red and white cable) is connected to my capture box, and both audio and video works. It works simultaneously with the HDMI output to the TV, so i can watch on the TV and stream/capture via the connected PC.

I'm running on Linux though, so not dependent on the manufacturer's windows drivers or anything. *grin*

I believe that many files downloaded by UniFi especially .rar are being corrupted unless u use a third party server
