I also managed to hack it into a Region free player using the method used by other members here. I think the open and close tray step can be skipped.
Hmmm, I thought the BD player DVD is region free anyways, there is no need to hack? COuld the sifu's here explain? thanks

just got one for RM390 in Kuching. Will test 2nite

this is one awesome blu ray player for the price... besides the blu ray function.... plays all my hardisk movie collection avi, mkv, mp4 files etc...except unsupported format (rmvb) of course...

PQ (for movie files) may not be as good as dedicated media players but good enough for me. For best PQ can't beat Blu ray

thanks for this great thread which made it an easy choice for entry level/ first time blu ray user like me

Unboxed it last night....have not fully tested it yet. As I progress would definitely request current owner's feedback.

Folks, after booting, it shows there is a new firmware to be update. I didnt update any at this point in time, just wanted to get a feel what the player offers now.

Any major changes you saw with the upgrade?

I updates so many times, nothing special, can't play BD still can't play (I got face two genuine BD cannot play, Disc1 of certain chapter of spartacus blood and sand, and also totally can't play at all after the advertisement in one of the disc of Ghost in the Shell 2.0 Japan Edition BD, both BD no issue and play smoothly in my Sony S370 player), and never solved any problem they have in certain MKV file or the chinese subtitle issue for the MKV playback.

I had no idea what Samsung firmware Fix, for me it fix nothing.

Here is the link http://www.samsung.com/my/support/detail/s...chword=BD-C5500

Meanwhile, I was wondering if I update the firmware would it loose the Internet TV programs. It seem to have cool links and downloaded programs, like yoga. I havent explored further. But i think its better than Pana, since I have Pana TV (Plasma), its links are limited to youtube (which i love to have, i watch alot here, when i have nothing to do or boring astro shows), picasa, skype, twitter and weather (assuming the same for BD45 as well)

But samsung has way much more. Will update the pictures later, and we could compare.

I havent tried, but i presume its similar to other remote (I have for Pana), hence the remote is more like handphone keypad, which is fine with me, normally i search using the PC and then keyed in the exact phrase, its easier that way. Last weekend I watched Armageddon on youtube, cool! thumbup.gif

On Pana, the youtuber is just great, some of the none-Pana had told me they are having problem streaming on net (buffering), I have no such problem on 1MB streamyx

What I don't like is the entry lagging, I key faster than it appear on screen.

I get what you mean, i guess I'm use to it since using Nokia N79, its the type keypad, will check later if samsung can change the keypead setting to qwerty (similar to Panny, which you can)?
