Upgraded my firmware to version 1021 (I think) last nite. I didn't see any differences in terms of performance though. Looked pretty much the same for me.

I saw the next gen of Samsung BD Players in 1U earlier. Selling price of the basic 5300 model is 899. Didn't check out the specs, but I noticed its got built-in wifi already.

this latest firmware...any issues playing bluray, or with mp4 or mkv files?

for bluray, this player does not play one bluray movie of mine. My other (olde) philips bluray player does play with no problem. So not feeling satisfied and really not sure if updating the firmware can fix this.

with mp4 - do you still get audio for all mp4 files? for my titles now, all mp4 has audio. Just afraid if i'm gonna lose this functionality with the new update.

for mkv - do you get subtitles to appear for all your mkv movies which has .srt or .sub files (of the same name and located on the same folder film) appear? appearently i got one or two titles than won't show subtitles at all.

anyone with similar issues do update

thx

No issues with bluray or mkv files. No issues with subtitles also. My mkv's play normally similar to my media player. I dont have mp4 files.

Although I found a problem with the new firmware update, for some reason the Facebook app was deleted from in the Internet TV. I dont use it anyhow, so its not really an issue for me.

Not sure what has been fix... so hope it at least fix certain MKV not playable and also no issue on certain BD, I face two BD unplayable already, no issue on Sony BD player.

Everytime Samsung update without log and seems never fix anything... hmm... Previous updates even downgrade a bit, every MKV file sure around few seconds not display at beginning.. no such issue in stock firmware.

What Samsung really FIX ... hmmm....

Got my C5500. Time to enjoy HD movies now.

Different types of Mr Ho's BR available here - RM 10 to 29.90. Aren't they the same ? Same picture and sound quality ?

Those in boxes at RM 39.90. Reasonable ?

plumberly, the 'real' Mr Ho BD was almost black in colour. I guess you don't really have a chance to really compare the PQ of a real blu-ray movie and blu-ray rip version DVD as those cheap blu-ray you mention above. Have you tried your RM10 blu-ray with your old DVD player? If it's playable, then it's a DVD... biggrin.gif

If you really want to get a cheap blu-ray movie, suggest you explore Amazon US or UK. Sometime when the deal is good, you can get an original blu-ray movie below RM40 for a standard shipping. rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

I think it is a BD as it says 25 GB. Up to 8 GB for DVD. Will try with my DVD player the next time I hook up my DVD player. Thanks.

If you want fully enjoy the quality of BD, I recommended you buy the Original one.

No point and worth buying those Uncle Jo. BD as original is quite affordable as well. You may browse around seller at lowyat forum for a start, you will notice some titles is how cheap there are. BD Seller thread - http://forum.lowyat.net/Blu-rayHD-DVDDVD

Notes: all new release and most BD titles in original is 50GB, those Uncle Jo is just 25GB which means it already alter the PQ and AQ from origin source. (Those RM10 is definately a DVD 9 copy, not BD) You can always browse http://www.blu-ray.com for the BD size information.

Of course, you can buy your own at Amazon US and UK (Credit Card & Debit Card is fully support). For UK you need to do some homework as only region FREE title is playable as UK is default to Region B but Malaysia is under Region A.

willkso & andrewtst,

Thanks for your advice.

Tried the "BR" on my PC DVD and it can play the movie ! Yes, you are right, not real BR. Just a copy of BR in DVD format !

Should not believe what is printed on the cover now. Ha.

plumberly,

Used to be an experienced user of those blu-ray copy disc. Thats why I insist those disc sold at ParkCity Mall not a blu-ray when you mentioned it. It's quite a good copy from the blu-ray though. So, if coupled with the upscalling capability of the player sometime the untrained eyes will be pretty supprised with the quality

Ordered one BR (Dire Straits - Alchemist) from Amazon. Got a free 15 pounds voucher from somewhere. Looking forward to the BR.

Got a problem with my Onkyo S 500 AV. It doesn't have HMDI nor DVI. These 2 options will give me the best picture and sound quality as per samsung manual. Any way around this cabling problem besides upgrading my Onkyo to T 608 ?

Thanks.

Appreciate your advice / help here.

a. Can C5500 read NTFS formatted pen drive ? Went through the manual and can't find the infor there.

b. Planning to get a 2 TB external drive to hook up to USB port of C5500. Appreciate your recommendations on brand/model.

Thanks.

UPDATE :

Got a soft copy of the manual. Easier to search using the soft copy. Found out that NTFS is supported for pendrive on C5500.

If it can read the external HDD up to 2TB, then shouldn't have any problem reading NTFS formatted pendrive. 2TB external drive depends on where you intend to buy. Western Digital MyBook Essential 2TB(USB 3) should be costing less than RM399, including the delivery to Sarawak. Some local IT storn maybe close to that price too.

Else I will choose Seagate brand. Easy to do the RMA in case needed!
