QUOTE(Jiamin19 @ May 16 2011, 11:17 PM) I sold prawn mee before and KL peoples' aquired taste for it is different. Try O&S restaurant in Paramount PJ. Opined on it, do you like it? When it came to KL (it originates from Penang) it became 'mee yoke' starting with hawkers on three wheeled cycles. Then other hawkers non-Penang ones started to learn them. They infused more heavier prawn tasting concoction into the stock which what KL people likes now. Then they became so heavy tasting they taste like 'roasted belacan' soup. I suspect they add a lot of 'belacan' too. This is KL's version and when they eat in Penang they say Penang's prawn noodle has no prawn taste at all. They also started to add large prawns but at one stall minus the large head so they can use the head for stock. Then the bowl of noodle is priced at RM9.00 per bowl. So, that's how prawn noodle and 'Hokkien Mee' differs now. KL version and real Penang version. |

Most popular nowadays is the one in Perak Road in front of Padang Brown, beside Tan Bros. with the huge Sony sign. Parking is also easy there with a public car park in front. Another of my favourite, I don't know if it is still operating is Classic Cafe in Komtar. Located on the first floor where there is a road going under the shopping complex at the bus station. Another one is the coffee shop opposite Agora Hotel. 5.41107N, 100.33062E Btw, I notice most people uses Deg, Min, Second or Deg Min whereas I prefers all Decimal because it's easier to enter them in phone. Other countries, Nokia maps is superb but when comes to Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Southern Thailand & Northern Thailand, Garmin & Papago rules.
So, Try out 1st either Garmin or Papago...Don't only stick to Nokia maps..The updates & POIs really horrible & even few highways already completed since early last year for weg LEKAS & SKVE from Putrtajaya hv yet to be updated in Nokia maps till Today For Oversea, yes Nokiamaps is good since lack of real mapping communities like the one in Malaysia, Indonesia & Phillipines.. Firstly, kudos to you Darknite for putting this up together. This is awesome man, having good food in Penang all listed down.
May i suggest Wen Chang Hainanese Chicken Rice at Cintra Street? Loved the way they do their rice. Been a fan of this since my parents brought me there as a kid. They have since moved to a bigger place. http://wikimapia.org/#lat=5.4173218&lon=10...65&z=18&l=5&m=b |

I used to patronise the mamak mee goreng at Bangkok Lane alot last time. Until recently I found that their quality is inconsistent. Couple of times already, the quality isn't what I expected. The ocien at Song river cafe & Tg Tokong FC also not as good as what i expected. Gowever, the har mien at Pdg Brown is good..pheww at last got to taste after years of failure bcos went after 9am As for the "har mien" or Hokkien Mee you call it in Penang, the best one (for me) is located at Lebuh Presgrave (we call it "Sar Tiao Lor " 3rd Road). Open for dinner only. This post has been edited by katopunk: Jun 4 2011, 04:26 AM |
