I heard Penang food nowadays inflated like crazy liao..worst than klang Valley..

last week, at prai, Juru rest area, I kena RM9+ for a nasi kandar ayam goreng + 1 begedil + sayur..damn

I also kena the same price at Raju restaurant behind Jln Gasing, KL.

KL normal-lah but this is Penang wor..So many new topics in Koptiam now bombarding even the RM9.50 chapfan..Not forgetting the portion in Penang is 1/2 of KL

I find that nowadays the standard of living or rather the standard of consumer spending is higher in Penang. The real estate rental is definately higher, the food almost the same as KL, I mean the usual places where normal people eat not tourist areas, transportation cost is even higher if compared to KL. The age of the 'kiamsiap' is gone, nobody can help it. Imagine during my schooling days, I eat 'chap fan' or 'wanton mien' for only 30 sen. Even the assam laksa is RM3.00 but the portion is a small one which is comparatively higher than KL if you compare the same portions. Langkawi is not far away and Cameron Highlands is also getting higher.

That's like 30 years ago!

More like 35 years ago. I am a Xavierian. Cycling home after school from Farquhar St. to Boundary Road and on the way stop at Swatow Lane for 'ice kacang', the ice kacang only 20 sen. Those days, a meal in Eden, Transfer Road was like heaven.

More like a major detour!
BTW that Famous Ice Kacang places is very near where I used to lived. After school, I used to pester my grandma to take me for ice kacang. Instead of walking home from Wellesley Pri Sch, we would just walk a bit further for ice kacang.
My school meals are catered in the canteen. A bowl of noodles is 10sen!

penang prices still reasonable compare to KL.

Unker Etigge also said so liao lor.. . You probably last there about a year ago. I was shock when I was there last week...Prai area suppose to be cheaper than Penang & so do Sg Petani..All Nasi Kandar over there also so expensive liao compare to a year ago!!..I remembered 1.5 yrs ago, in Sg Petani, I got 1 nasi kandar wth 1 big chicken & sayur for only RM3.40...dirt cheap..Last week went there..RM6 liao

Yes, prices have increase, its everywhere, no thanks to you-know-who fed gomen!
But there are some places beyond tourist trap where food are still reasonable.

I like New World Park.
Airy, not too crowded, and fairly decent food + easy parking.

Sometimes on a hot lunch day its not worth to go crowding places...

I always don't mind to pay rm10 for my char koay teOw at ah Leng. As long as it's good

Anyway, it's great CKT but the portion...

I remember I had a shock when the waiter said RM21 for two plates of (keh liao) CKT. After walloping them clean, the price was somehow justifiable.

Darm..All spoiling Penang fames food pricing liao....I find the qty so Kiamsiap wan lor...beh tahan..You all must be attracted to his Char bor kia..haha
