just call maxis cs. they said this 118 just for limited time only. later u need to pay 218. i'm confused.
*
I guess the customer care consultant that spoke to you really got you confused.

Well, its suppose to be, if sign up now, will enjoy this special price of RM118 for the whole contract period of 24 months @ 10Mbps

Once this limited offer is over and package removed from our offerings (maybe after 30th June 2012?!?! I'm also not sure....), users can only subscribe to the normal package of RM218 for 10Mbps.

im curious what hardware you would get from this package?

from http://www.maxis.com.my/home/plans_fibre_10mb.asp
i see a dect and a modem

are these 2 the only hardware? is the "white" box the thompson modem you guys keep mentioning?

pc is direct connected to it via lan cable or wifi or need separate router?

Added on May 23, 2012, 9:07 amseem the modem is thomson TG784n
http://www.maxis.com.my/home/pdf/fiber%20i...Mbpspackage.pdf

so maxis will not let user access to the modem admin is that true?
what if i want to off the modem wifi can it be done? as im allergy to close range wifi signal which will cause headache whenever i on my dlink wifi
*
You can connect your PC directly with LAN cable. Well, that's what I'm doing
Yes, the white box is the thompson wifi router modem most people are mentioning here.

No, you will be able to enter the it with admin access. And yes, you can disable WiFi from the settings inside

in theory, 10Mbps maxi vs 5Mbps unifi - double speed, and 22% cheaper

never know until someone reviews it

but my concern with the contract is, if I want to move house, what happens ?

for unifi, if I want to move, no problem, just pay a small fee, and if the new place has no unifi, they allow streamyx

i shall ask maxis about this
*
Can shift also, just need to pay the installation fees

Hi,

DrPitchard you seem to be the go to guy regarding the special RM118 deal so i would like to ask some questions.  =D

while i wish you could answer the quota being implemented in june thing by one of the TTDI staff (i still do =x) i under stand if you have difficulties in answering that q. (please do thou =3)

anyway, a few  questions:

1. is there a clause that would allow me to cancel my contract with maxis if i find the service unsatisfactory? Perhaps like i only get 1mbps for a month, frequent disconnections... [i mean without paying the fine]
2. is there a trial period? one month? (like your wireless broadband package)
3. if i hit the maximum of my quota (if), what would be my speed?
4. or is it a complete block on my internet surfing capabilities?
*
Sorry for the late reply, ultra busy and hectic day....catching up with my daily work...

1. No such clause. There is no contract in this world that will side an individual. From housing loan, insurance, service provider, employment contract...etc
Sad fact of life... ><"
2. No trial period. For the record, all fibre broadband internet providers have a lockdown period of 24 months. This includes TIME, TM, Maxis, Vasetti...etc
3. Most probably it will be throttled. But I really doubt it if the quota will be implemented soon.
4. No way at all. Negative. Will surely be able to surf at reasonable speed

Correct answer...

Actually, most of the answers to your questions can be found at the respective FAQ of this internet service providers.

This is what Maxis FTTH CS told me :

1.  i have fulfilled the min 12 mths contract on my current package, so I'm surely eligible to upgrade to the 10Mbps/$118 package without any penalty..

2.  I get to keep my public IP setup

3.  I need to walk in to Maxis Centre to signup!  (this is crap..can't they just do it online?  Ain't we in the digital age now??)

4.  No quota as of now.

Well, I don't mean to be nuts, for those who wonders when will the cap be implemented, and what will be the outcome if you hit the cap later etc. etc.... I doubt even TM can tell u and give you the confirmation!  So, just relax and signup if you think M gives u what you want...

At least I'm gonna enjoy the 10Mbps next week or sooner!
*
Good for you!!! Do enjoy the 10Mbps package!!!! :-)

i heard maxis sometimes give hidden charges to their customers, like the phone bills and such..

my question is, would it be the same for this promo? could I incur any hidden charges?
*
NO such thing (hidden charges, extra charge..etc)
Fibre broadband is very direct, unlike mobile. And for everyones knowledge, external content provider (ECP) at times mysteriously creep and crawl into postpaid bills, not just Maxis but other mobile operators too. Imagine it as the ECP asking you permission, and if you say yes, they can start to charge you even when the mobile operator is not aware about it...

Very creepy indeed...
Thank God, this has now been controlled and some of the ECP even brought to court already

*
Very valid concern, 2 years indeed can be a very long time, if your experience with something is bad. Similarly, can be short if you are enjoying it... :-)

Then again, Maxis, TM (UniFi) and Time all have 2 years for their fibre broadband contract. Understandably since the cost of laying the fibre optic cables is quite costly

Taken from Maxis Fibre Home FAQ at:
http://www.maxis.com.my/home/faq.asp

What if I move homes within my contract period?
You will need to provide documented proof of your new house address (e.g. utility bill addressed to your new home). If we are able to offer the service in the new location (depending on whether your new location is within our coverage areas) we will re-locate the service for you for a fee of RM200. Note that your contract will be restart. If the service is not available in your area, we will waive your penalty fees.

If you are unable to provide proof of your new house address and you are still bound to the contract, you will incur a penalty fee for early termination in your last bill.

*
Define housemates? How many of them? 2, 5, 10? If >10, this package would have difficulty is supporting all of them for simultaneous browsing/gaming.

Where do you stay? If at high end places, some are actually covered by the 'legendary' 1000Mbps package.... :-)

LOL...Wrong again.
I am very impartial... :-)

There is no doubt that the penalty is ex, this is clear as the sky.
So, unless you are confident that you won't be migrating overseas anytime soon, or a new internet service provider is launched early next year with an even more ridiculous deal, this package should be perfectly fine.

And just like all the fibre broadband consumer packages, be it Astro Fibre Broadband, Maxis Fibre, UniFi, or Time, all have quota too, although it is unlimited at the moment and can be triggered anytime soon.

So, for a real peace of mind and no fear of quota, go for any of the busines fibre broadband...LOL

TM's 20Mbps Fixed IP at RM899
Maxis 32Mbps Fixed IP at RM988

If both ok I will go apply tonight and give up my 4Mbps Streamyx!

Added on May 26, 2012, 12:08 amBtw guyz, jz a quick drop of info

Q1
What IF quota is implemented? Speed will be throttled?

IF AND ONLY if quota is implemented, then yes, speed will be throttled, to 512kbps. That being said, there WON'T be extra charges of any sorts if you use extra. Instead, you speed will be throttled only

Q2
I have a cool, funky modem that I want to use instead of the standard Thompson one given by Maxis. Is it possible?

Yes, it is possible. Our only concern is you will accidentally mess up the cables (fibre optic is SENSITIVE) or the settings within. If you are IT savvy and know what you are doing, by all means, configure it according to your preference! :-)
That being said, Thompson router is actually quite good, so for a start, I suggest you try it out first for some time before deciding to swap?

Last but not least, I will be outstation for the weekend!!! So, no collection of reg forms for the weekend. Will only be able to do so on Monday onwards. Oh yeah, limited internet access too, so replies will only be at night.

Enjoy your weekend!!
