With the arrival of the iPhone 4 officially today, I can only imagine the heavy burden the mods and the vets here, having their patience tested with the influx of questions they had to face from new iPhone owners. Hang tough guys, I just hope I dont have to answer the "why the speaker at the bottom only come out sound from one side only" questions ever again.

Mods, brace yourselves.

The death grip only happens in certain areas. I've tried it.

So far my signal only drops in TTDI and The Gardens. It doesn't happen when I'm at One Utama or Bandar Utama. I haven't tested anywhere else. I think it's mostly the area that you're in as it doesn't happen all the time.

Btw, take a look at some other phones. You'll realize that the iPhone is not the only phone with signal issues. My Sony Ericsson phone produces signal issues even when not holding in a specific way.

Maybe the iPhone 4's antenna sensor is much more sensitive and responsive to shield with our hands than any other phones, otherwise it performs very well.

After getting the iPhone 4 from Maxis, I was trying to update IOS4.02 to IOS4.1 but iTunes keep giving me error message saying that the iPhone update server could not be contacted.

Anybody else having same problem, or is it just me?

I thought I could restore my backup contacts, bookmarks, etc from my iPhone 3GS 4.1 backup into my new iPhone 4...BUT iTunes won't allow me to do it unless my iPhone 4 was also IOS4.1. This is so frustrating.

When your signal is on GSM 900 (Maxis) u wont have death grip issue.....

When your signal is on GSM 1800 (Digi) or 3G network which MY is using UMTS 2100 (Maxis & Digi), you will have death grip issue!

Yes if youre previous backup is from OS 4.1 then you'll have to update the IP4 fw to 4.1 to restore from backup, I encountered it as well but the download and update went through and synced my backup..Voila! carbon copy of my 3GS!

Look at the phone network signal icon. If it shows 3G/HSDPA/3.5G, it means it is on UMTS 2100.

If it is the the traditional old-school network icon, means it is on GSM 900.

GSM 900 is the normal GSM/GPRS/EDGE speed (when u see 'O' or 'E' or nothing after your MY MAXIS wording)

UMTS is when you see '3G' next to MY MAXIS.

I am just stating a theoretical fact only, death grip also depends on several other factors, like indoor or outdoor, on ground level or elevated, how strong a reception at your area, etc.

Basically, the higher the frequency the phone is working in (1800 - 2100Mhz) the more susceptible it is to so called death grip.....just go get a case / bumper for your phone and you should not encounter it nemore. smile.gif

I don't think there's anyway for Apple to address this issue properly since its a design flaw unless they change the entire design / outlook of the phone.

The most probable way to address this issue is to bump up the transmission power but this is not healthy and may not pass the authorities as it will increase the SAR (specific absorption rate) rating, not to mention this solution only solve half of the problem...the receiving part is still the same (signal may still drop). Hope Apple is not going this way. doh.gif

So all in all, yea, there's no solution to it.
