good to know that. thanks smile.gif
mind explaining why ?

There's lots of fake 50 pound notes around apparently. If you use it in the UK, they will double check it with the security devices they have. Even if you withdraw cash from their atm machine, you will only be able to get 10 or 20 pounds notes out of it.

I went to UWE Bristol for my last year of degree study as well, for 2011-12.
I gotta say Giffgaff+1. Giffgaff is pretty much the cheapest if you prefer getting unlimited data plan. I used Giffgaff throughout my stay in UK.
For making calls back to Malaysia though, there are some better options, can't remember the names. Any other forumers' help will be appreciated.

Is anyone here going to, or went to Nottingham Trent before? May I know how is the uni? Environment, living, uni standard etc. Thanks in advance.

I pretty much agree with you that giffgaff is one of the best network i've used during my studies in the UK. Love it a lot especially the free calls to other giffgaff users. As for making calls back to Malaysia, some of my friends used Lebara as they offer cheaper international call rates. Hope this info helps. =)

I wanna order SIM card now (to minimize unnecessary hassles when I get there) but I'll only be at Bath on the 20th. So...when I reach there, an envelope from Giffgaff will be sitting there waiting for me? Will I be able to get my number now here in Malaysia?

I bought one giffgaff sim card here last year before I flew to UK. Can't remember if this is the same person who dealt with me but you can check out his thread and see whether you'd want it or not.

I wouldn't recommend to use GIffgaff in Bath, unless you don't want people to call you when you're in Eastwood laugh.gif.

What's wrong with Giffgaff at Eastwood? Bad connection? hmm.gif

I'm considering Three too because they have a cool name and their Pay As You Go plan can be cheaper than Giffgaff's goodie bags if you really don't call all that much (I think).

If I go for Giffgaff I'm thinking of the cheapest £5 goodie bag btw.

I see, good to know.
I guess fake 50 pound notes wasn't that common back then when I was in UK, around 2011-12. They never check the notes even once when I paid with 50 pound notes. They did check once however, when I paid with 100 pound notes. And the ATM machines only dispensed mostly 50 pounds, along with few 20 pound notes.

I used it because of the 10 pounds goodies bag, unlimited data, haha. Now it's increased to 12 pounds though, if I'm not mistaken.
Ah yes, Lebara, some of my friends used it too, they often call back to Malaysia. I prefer Skype biggrin.gif

Oh ya, I forgotten about the coverage, you can check the coverage of your area using their websites.
I went for unlimited data plan last time, that's the 12 pounds goodies bag for Giffgaff(it was 10 pounds back then). It was the cheapest I can find, not sure if it's still the cheapest now though.

I'm almost certainly going to buy this monitor model now that 'the price has dropped further' according to Amazon. Not sure if this is yet another sales gimmick though.

Okay my question is, can I order it tonight and schedule for it to arrive on the 21st? And are there benefits of creating an Amazon Prime account when I do so?

why do you change so much cash for?....for most people, 500 quid is enough, for the initial setup, should last you a week easily, while waiting for you bank account and more importantly the atm/dd card to be ready....

you can use the 50 pounds notes easily, no need to change to smaller notes....i would advice that once you receive the atm/dd card, bank in all the extra cash except for some spare cash....you can pretty much survive with very little cash....all the supermarkets accept eftpos with the dd card.....

Totally agree with you. I brought bank draft with me and open a bank account with that and get processed within a week. 200 quid was enough for me to survive my first week there. If anyone is using Lloyd's bank, I have a trick to share for you to earn extra money. =D

my parents and relatives advise me to do so just incase i have some issue with opening the bank account there, i heard it may take up to 1 week in some cases. and further more i need to pay 300 deposit + 320 for the first month rent for my accommodation

anyway thanks for the advice and no worries, will safeguard my money well until i got a bank account

the thing about giffgaff is that

1. the one with unlimited data is going to go up to 18pounds next month onwards
2. not sure about the available LTE coverage, if there is any
3. bad reviews on fb

thinking of taking three or vodafone, i guess it depends what your mates are using for the free calls. most campuses are fully wifi equipped so unlimited data shouldn't be such of a concern anyway.

TBH... i've checked the fb pages of all 3 carriers (giffgaff, vodafone, three). the comments section is basically more like a complaint section rather than comments /enquiries. all have their own problems... i guess it boils down to your area ?

its the same for our own maxis and digi. may be good for some, but for others the service is bad

Call back to malaysia, i would use skype instead of mobile phone.

Nottingham trent NTU? nice and fab place to stay. you will never get boring and don't expensive place to stay. probably things have been changed. been there few years back. but it's bit pain in the arse when u going to back malaysia because 3++ hours from heathrow to nottingham. overall, my experience, between cambridge, nottingham, london and bristol, nottingham still is my fav place to stay. have fun! smile.gif

as the others forumers said, bad review on giffgaff is normal. my advice, three and vodafone if u can avoid, avoid it. sometimes if you choose a network, you need to look into the customer service, network coverage and also how difficult if you want to cancel your contract.

now, there's lots of free app to make calls & send free text such as viber, skype etc. which you can save lots of money when you have unlimited data. smile.gif
