The only problem with the tactics today is that our midfielders didn't feed the ball to Torres like the previous games. We had many passes but most of them didn't get to Torres at all. Of course he's not having a great game. Hats off to Berba though, I have to admit he was brilliant in finishing today.
Look on the brighter side guys, so far most of the top teams we've played on away. I just hope that when they come to Anfield, we'll turn the tables around.

Personally, I think we lack fluidity in attacking. A couple of matches together will definitely help in building the player's understanding better. Everyone did fairly well and what I was hoping to see was our wingers spreading out wide. They were playing too narrow and that made both Johnson and Konchesky looked more than a fullback. They have to defend and attack at the same time, leaving gaps behind for Carragher and Skrtel to cover. Our defence were clumsy and weak in aerial battle. We often see how simple clearances could be made. Instead, they chose to run around, back passing to Reina. We should be grateful we buried two of our chances well. If we keep up our consistency, there's definitely more room to improve and work on.

ya i don't know Babel isn't playing. atleast he was getting 1 or 2 minutes under Rafa.

i'm just going to look at the positives. losing to them is always hard to take.

(+) - Meireles' passing, Poulsen in general, Gerrard finally scored, Torres looked motivated in 2nd half, Agger's response to the future grammy winner Nani.

(-) - Very negative, No Pace in flanks, no support to attack, poor aerial defending.

Next game at Anfield, hopefully Roy can sort the mess by then.

they play possession mode game (safe play)

any team should play this when they are leading.

attack is the best defend

No offense but did u watch all our previous games last season? Jamie and Daniel has been pumping all the balls forward for almost every chance they had. zzz .

Damn , Barcelona is the safest team in the world then.

I think Cole should play behind Torres. We need a much more effective winger on the left side. Meireles was decent when he was on the right side for a while but I don't think it's his natural position. But seriously, RH needs to figure out the best tactics for the team quickly, or we'll be in deep sh*t!

loads of optimistic fellas around but we have been poor for weeks...

MU's slack gave us a 15 minutes of mad football....but serious....we were poor for almost 70 minutes!!!!

and with exception of the Bucharest game, i cant remember any fluid and composed display

plenty to cry over...nothing much to cheer about....

i dont see any light, with exception of Raul might turn out to be a useful player....

folks..the TABLE does not lie....i know we only played 5 games but position 16 and-3 goal difference ( MINUS 3!) is exactly what our football deserve....

yes. RB tactic is too feed the ball from deep. It was efficient when likes of Crouch or Heskey were there to hold up the ball. Torres is not that really good in aerial or to hold up the ball. Ngog is better in that role.

But he was in bench.

To have Arsenal, Man City and Man Utd in the first 5 games of the season is indeed a very tough task to us as Roy Hodgson hasn't even settled with his best 11 yet. Our only hope is that when the weaker matches come along, we are able to take full advantage and not slip up.

It's a worrying sign. Apart from 15 mins today..and the 2nd half against Arsenal, we have been way, way off our best. This season most players have not lived up to expectations..

Not surprising, really. The last match United had an answer to us after beating them 3 in a row - Fletcher. Let's just say we never played well since the beginning of last season when the opposition presses us high up the field. The scoreline's flattering anyway, we deserve to be trashed 3-0. Less said about our defending the better.

Only positive I could see is that Poulsen is starting to adapt to the game and Meireles could be a quality signing. Unfortunately that alone won't be enough to save our season.

Next 2 PL games are Home games against Sunderland and Blackpool. If we don't win this convincingly, probably it's time to accept that we're a mid-table team after all.

I dont know why you guys are so down about this defeat.

first off, old trafford is one of the toughest places to play. period. and not to mention man u's pass two home games, they won 3-0 each. and man u is not a team to concede alot, if any goals at home.

yes, we played badly in the first half, we got better in the second. we did GREAT to score 2 goals away from home. players , ie Stevie G, Joe Cole, Torres looked lively. Id say this is a considerably good performance against one of the best teams around.

im hoping our good form continues till the end of the season and may it only get better.

Id say good game overall, poor defending, berbatov finished very well.

i can see improvement on 2nd half where gerard play central mid and meireles go up front.

cole play well but didnt get enough support when he try to run the ball upfront.

i think we just need to improve on aerial defence as we can see from all 3 goals.

cant blame RH for not playing babel, as we already see without lucas, we still cant get any points either.

place for CL??? hmm..

For the 1st half, i see wtf are we playing. ManU are playing flanks but our defenders are too concentrated on the center. 1st goal - why Torres do marking? I though should be defender. 2nd Goal - Jamie just too weak to challange on Barbatov.
I found Jamie is bit old and slow, he tend to give back pass to Reina. It seem like he is like killing the momentum, instead he should brave enough to bring the ball and tried to pass to someone.
I believe we can play attacking game, we did some good passing game on the 2nd half.
Cole is good, in control and dribble. His charging and passing which resulted the free kick. He should given more freely to run. Maybe he play on the flank also good, he can cut into the center.
Torres resulted the 2 goals. He may be quite, but his touch still class. Ball control and running. He just a world class players. As we mentioned, he just lack of ball feeding from the players.
Nani is the worst player on the pitch. I can believe his trying to fool around. He get no respect from me. Some of the foul is just a simple knock but he act like serious injury. At least others players in ManU are trying best to play football. doh.gif
Players like Ronnie or Scholes or even Fletcher, they don't simple do the play act. I can see most of them just make hard tackle. I mean is normal, even our players also do the same. But case like Nani to do acting on the field is just a coward.

For the 5 games in a row, Liv only wake up or how to play for 15-20 min, the rest just lead the opponent to bombarb Reina's goal.

And I hate to say again and again, Liv deserved nothing from the match.

Did great?
Score a penalty and a freekick (which defender should brave enough to block the ball instead avoid it) is not something to proud about.

There is virtual zero threat to VDS for the entire match.

Good performance?? Did I watch the wrong match?
It is lucky that come back from 2-0, but yet defending is still dismay.

Liv only plays better for 15-20 period, other than that, it is just like attacking vs defending practice which Liv is the end of the defending side.

From my pov, zero point.

AF makes a sensible comment and hit the nail on the head.

Chill bro , ur not alone. If we would've taken that 1 point , I'll take it anytime be it luck or wat. But the point here is , we really don't deserve any. We played freaking badly.

Apart from Meireles , nothing is there to cheer about ( except for the absence of Lucas tongue.gif )

here are my thoughts. fair result considering the full 90mins, apart from the 2 goals n johnson's shot wide, we created nothing, not even a half chance. credit to the lads to pull 2 goals back, and as again is gerrard, it would be a crime for him not to ever lift the bpl trophy.. there is only a major question in my mind, n that is what is bloody wrong with our defence these days ? under rafa we were hard to break down, most of the times we look solid at the back. i dont see many changes except for konchesky coming in at lb.. we have pretty much the same back 4 who has played together for more than a season together. i also wonder what has changed reina, in the sense that i dont see him coming out punching the ball / dealing with crosses much anymore.

taking into account from both games against birmingham n manu, i can see we look really shaky defending crosses.. at times we are so easily opened up and another talking point would be we play so narrow at times i feel like we are playing the diamond formation. cole n maxi arent exactly wingers n again m disappointed with torres esp in the first half though credit to him for being heavily involved in our 2 goals. the only player that played well imo was meireles n he was rightly sub-ed out, can c him really tired.

of the 3 goals, we could've defended better on the 1st n 3rd, but then again, it was manu's defensive errors too that brought us back to the game rather than brilliance on our player's part. we can always argue that o'shea should hv been sent off being the last man, at least i tot so too when i saw the challenge. i m questioning the fa's decision to let webb officiate the match, considering this is his first competitive match since the wc final if i'm not mistaken, i tot he made a number of errors n couldnt control the match as a referee.

another thing to add, nani is slowly becoming the next hated player in my books, dont get me wrong, he is someone i wish to see in our side, being a winger who has trickery n pace n every bit of a natural winger.. but after tonight's game where he is trying to make a meal of every challenge, its just so wtf !!!! f-ing pissed to the way he goes to ground with really minimal contact. oh dear, what has happen-ed to the beautiful game doh.gif
