Hi. Can you tell me:
1. What was the original price when S95 first came out?
2. When did it came out? 1 yr ago? 2 yrs ago?
3. What's the normal street price for a new S95

Give me what to expect with the S100.

I do feel a little disappointed with the S100 though.

The S95 is already lacking in the lens department considering the LX5, XZ-1, EX all have faster lens.

Now they make it even slower. doh.gif

GPS and longer zoom may appeal to the more casual users but they already have good casual user powershot with long zoom and gps in the SX230.

ps: Franiec busy making olympus grips now tongue.gif

I agree. S100 should remain as high end compact where Picture quality
is most important. -24 or 28mm f1.8 would be better.

New S100 thread anyone? Pls let us know here.

I do not need 14x optical zoom. I wanted a bigger aperture and GPS instead.

the S100 actually seems promising.
sure the s95 at 105mm is f/4.9, but s100 at 105mm is around f/5.6, about 1/2 stop difference...
the new processor that claims to reduce noise more should hopefully even it out.
s100 apparently also got a 8fps high speed burst mode.
guess my s90 going to drop price even more...still got 1.5yrs warranty to go tongue.gif

s95 is better than s90 so s100 will surely be better than s95.
Canon already claim s100 at iso1600 is the same as s95 at iso400.
For me direct video button and ability to zoom during video
shoot is a plus. Also s100 focus point can be moved around . s95
focus point is center at P mode which i normally use. At auto
the camera chose the multi focus points.
Right now i say no plan to upgrade but once Ken Rockwell claim
it is the new "best compact in the world" ( now he claim it is the s95)
I will rush out and buy the s100. I am a sucker for the guy's review.
A seldom mention plus for s95/s90/s100 is its most compact size and lowest
price when compared to other premium compacts. This encourage
owners carry them around. The best camera is no use if kept at home.

My view exactly. Unless you are a professional photographer carrying your camera 24/7 everywhere you go or you actually expect to take photos that day so carry a dedicated camera with you, the best camera for many people is actually a phone with camera function. This is simply because people nowaday carry phone with them everywhere they go 24/7, some even took their phone into the own house toilet.

That's pure bollocks .... m43 sensor which is many times the size is only 2 stops better and there's no way that could happen with same size sensor. Maybe they meant now it comes with even greater noise reduction in the jpeg engine.

"As well as the noise reduction system in the processor, the S100 has on-chip noise reduction to tackle both fixed pattern and random noise. For the first time in this level of camera, Canon has given the user control over the level of noise reduction applied at the processing stage.

We weren't able to examine the images we shot with the S100, but Canon is claiming that images taken at ISO 1600 with the S100 are on a par with those taken at ISO 400 with the S95. It's a bold claim and one that we look forward to investigating when we get a full production sample in for testing"

How come nobody thought of adding phone feature to a camera like s100. It already has GPS
Just add a touchscreen.

Hello Canon/Nikon, extra business -take up my idea ( dont forget my commission pls) LOL

how is s95 better than s90?
the only thing it really adds is 720p movie recording, but afterall its a camera first, and picture quality between both are the same.

it doesnt matter whether the s100 is better than the s95 or not. most important, s95 users better ask urself if u are thinking of upgrading to the s100... have u really pushed the s95 to its very limit? i always believe, the best camera, is the camera u are currently having! smile.gif

I actually printed the s95 user manual so I know there are many features i have not used
or mastered. But it is hard to resist the latest model. During the film days people used to keep
their cameras for 10 to 20 years. Nowdays it is every 1 to 2 years.

A little correction. The best camera is the camera that happens to be in your hand at the time you wanted to use it, and not at home sitting in the drawer somewhere.

The smaller S100 has more opportunity sitting in your pocket when you go out for a casual stroll whereas a DSLR has more opportunity sitting in a drawer somewhere at home.

So what do you reckon this S100's price will be?

Dslr has its own followers. I dont think s90/95/100 buyers are constrained
by price rather they want a high quality compact which is portable and stealthy.

I dont know about others but if someone point a slr at me I will feel my
privacy has been voilated but if point and shoot or phone cam then OK

The s100 cost $30 more than s95 so estimate price at launch should be
about RM1700 dropping to RM1400 after 6 month. My guess only lah.

http://www.kenrockwell.com/canon/s100.htm
My buddy Ken has announced the S100 as "the world's best pocket camera"

Pre-order a unit of S100. Let's play it by the ears. There are still chances to cancel order should the coming reviews turn out to be awful. biggrin.gif
