QUOTE(BuFung @ Jun 21 2011, 10:03 PM) It doesn't need the current N8's camera to be success.. a camera in phone just another function in a phone... True; as long as they provide a decent camera, it's good enough.the N8 camera module will make the phone look thicker and uglier... today ppl more focus on it internet integrity .. that is what actually Nokia always said.. but didn't do so well now a day... "Connecting People".... QUOTE(andrekua @ Jun 21 2011, 10:18 PM) I did not follow any Meego/Maemo news at all, because I never expect them to support them well after my fiasco with 7710. That I suppose should be software limitation. Touch Focus and other features of the camera...The simplicity of this is really on par with iOS, I would say. Its just so simple, that they really have nothing much to show, BUT the camera has touch focus. WTH!!! Even N8 does not have touch focus. Not sure whats more to come from it, but I really wonder if Nokia can really live it up and get some serious developers to deliver the apps needed for it to thrive. Otherwise this is just another SHOWOFF product by Nokia, showing the world what they can do with it and yet failing to deliver it yet again. Now probably we can start to or should see more of Qt benefits? Hmm... |

Nokia is like a irresponsible mom sometimes... this title used to belong to SE but Im surprised X10 will get Gingerbread despite its slow start... things do change, and lets hope Nokia really CHANGE for GOOD... QUOTE(BuFung @ Jun 21 2011, 10:43 PM) agree.... Not sure, but recently sees more progress on Qt? Maemo got Qt, and Symbian got Qt; but I still don't really see the app sharing thingy like build once, deploy anywhere; If have, then Maemo should have the same Qt apps for Symbian? Similarly Symbian should have the one for Maemo. I think there is "some" but not sure how many is there.Surprisingly the godlike camera phone do not support touch focus... I am very tired of the Term Qt in Nokia phone.. way way before Symbian^3.. rumours Symbian^2.. then Symbian^4 or something like that... saying because of Qt, will have soooooooo many apps for Symbian.. a lot of developer .. esp those smaller one simply just focus on Android and iOS now.... In terms of fluidity, somehow I still feel iOS and WP7 more fluid? This one, when you transit from one page to another or open up applications, it doesn't feel as nice, it's just more plain pop up or change over. QUOTE(andrekua @ Jun 21 2011, 11:11 PM) This MeeGo Harmattan is also very much Qt based? The last firmware update for N900 included Qt library in it, makes kind of major changes to the compatibility for older version apps.Anyway, no further comment on it until we can actually see it's real benefits. Similarly Symbian should have the one for Maemo. I think there is "some" but not sure how many is there. I think like you say, different platform after all. Like there are something that you cant do in Symbian, even with Qt, you are still pretty much limited. Then you got Maemo, which is much better and flexible, having a wider option to choose from. I see this even affect Android platform but not as critical as Nokia. The difference in hardware, software makes it even harder for developer to achieve a balance despite whatever claims Nokia made. Besides, unless Nokia tighten its store to become like AppStore or adopt advertising banner like Android, developers aint gonna waste time and money to be ripped of by crackers. In terms of fluidity, somehow I still feel iOS and WP7 more fluid? i am so sad that this is the real N9 and not the "Macbook Pro phone" (AKA Nokia N950) in the earlier posts. was really looking forward to slider qwerty. and now even the N950 is non retail, no warranty, no OTA update, and it has dumbed down a number of features present in the N9. so sad...

Possibly it's the originally plan device, but since they delayed it so long, the device is way outdated, so they come up with a new device? I don't know, but the MeeGo Harmattan was pretty old news, and this thread started since last year. Now, it's almost a year since this thread started.... By the time this phone is launched, it could probably be end of the year? In Malaysia, probably in Feb/Mar 2012? Just my baseless speculations. IMO, they need to launch it fast, by the end of this year, who knows what other device is in the market or announced, next year, I think more, and this device will look even more dated by then. There might also be a real actual MeeGo device? They might need to capture the market and attention, and make sure this doesn't disappoints, else, the it will tarnish the image of future MeeGo devices. |

QUOTE(PrideNeverDie @ Jun 22 2011, 12:02 AM) thanks for your "baseless" insight You might need to do a lot of work on this as you need to manually flash the firmware, no support, and the device is released as "beta". An incomplete set?hopefully in malaysia sellers can get a hold of this N950 and sell at reasonable price when the time comes. coz i not paying $$$ for a device with no warranty |

QUOTE(Andy214 @ Jun 21 2011, 10:54 PM) Yes; This doesn't look like Maemo at all; The icons looks like Anna? The icons was meant to show Nokia new icon style lol. I think WP7 will have this icon as well As mentioned before, this looks like a "refined" N8, just lacks the camera; In fact, it should have come earlier a year ago as you mentioned, as the N8. Imagine this with N8 camera, launched last year. By the way, this isn't the actual MeeGo... this is the Maemo6/Harmattan, said to be MeeGo Compatible. After this, will be should be the actual MeeGo device..... QUOTE(andrekua @ Jun 22 2011, 07:22 AM) Gizmodo isn't the most balanced of sites, but I blame Stephen Elop for not giving a clear idea on Nokia's plans with Meego in the long term. This N9 could be Nokia's final experiment with MeeGo and I think only if ig proves a major hit will Nokia continue making more.BTW the N900 sold poorly in the past I believe, so that's why it took so long to see another Linus based device. |
