I've read someone said can change the hboot from 0.92 to 0.80..
but need to go into alot of troubles tongue.gif
so better ask ask the seller his hboot is which version ~
better get 0.80 version if u plan to use custom rom~
but if u just want to get froyo only without custom, then u dun need to care bout the version of hboot tongue.gif
but... u lose the amazing thing for rooting ~
beware !!
wah ~ i'm a fans of dark side liao XD

This could be a sad news for those that are waiting for FroYo just for the Flash capability.

Yup, so if you want to root your phone, you better ask the seller which hboot the phone is..... smile.gif

He can try to boot up himself too.

AP set by default can update to FroYo but you can't root.
*
Not really if your AP is from Spore. I bought mine from there and the phone specs exactly the same as the local set here coz it is all SEA-sepcs.

QUOTE(coconutzz @ Aug 20 2010, 09:45 AM)
oh..meaning to say..i can still root..but not now..have to wait longer? So shall i wait and not update to Froyo yet?
*
as long as you haven't update via OTA Froyo, you can just root it and get Froyo at the same time. It is what I just did to my Desire yesterday. thumbup.gif

@bro CKHong, I just rooted mine and flash rom to NextSense 5.3. The phone feel snappier now. thumbup.gif But best part is the internal memory is 132mb free after the ext2 is made. I did a 512MB ext2, so now I can install as many games as I want. But my sd card left about 100mb++ only after load in the Papago X5 map - time to get a Class 6/10 8GB card. brows.gif

Yes. If you want FroYo now and still have root capability, make sure the phone you are going to buy is on 0.80 HBOOT and root using Custom FroYo available at XDA. Those custom FroYo are all running on 0.80 HBOOT.

ok, since the "stupid bird fly first".... I will save some trouble for you. laugh.gif

Nope, the rooting and flashing went all smooth yesterday, it is just the restore from Titanium backup that fail. So I will advise you to copy the entire SD card to your computer first thing first. But some apps like Note Everything actually store the data ON the phone but it auto backup to SD Card (luckily). I only knew this after I did the partition on the card and wipe out all data on the card and phone. rclxub.gif

So the basic step:
1. Root the phone with unrevoked (need to uninstalled HTC Sync and install Hboot driver first), you can skip the Amon Ra recovery.
2. Install Titanium Backup and do a full backup - all apps and all data.
3. Flash NextSense rom.
4. Flash Radio. (i did not restart/reboot after flashing rom, I did both flashing then only reboot)
5. Reboot/restart.
6. Find/Install ClockworkMod Rom Manager in Market. Do a ext2 partition and cache with it. (I did 512mb ram and 256mb cache.)
7. Install Titanium backup - choose INSTALLED apps and data you want to restored. A full backup will cause a lot of problem coz i think the restore try to restore back the old system files, so you will get a very unstable system - force close everywhere. rclxub.gif

I hit the wall on step 7 when I did a full restore. So at the end I pull the battery and did a full wipe out of the whole phone - get back what I have after step 5 - a clean phone. Then i installed my apps one by one manually. But i checked Titanium backup and notice I can actually restore some of my data - sms, some apps data like SplashID, wi-fi settings, etc. You just need to choose carefully what to restore.

Hello all sifus,

May I humbly request for advice and help before I take the plunge and root / flash ROM for my HTC Desire.

I bought my HTC Desire from Maxis 1 week ago and have been reading this forum plus XDA forum on the benefits of rooting and flashing new ROM. Still some nagging doubts preventing me from taking the plunge. Hope sifus can help me out.

1. I read the method to root from LYN and XDA, there is a mention of goldcard in XDA. Is this necessary for maxis HTC Desire ?

2. Before rooting, how / what is recommended for backup ? I have automatic backup turn on in the phone. Should I use some program to backup as well ? I am not worried of contacts as these are in google contacts. I am more concern of the apps and personalizing I have done over the 1week. If anything goes wrong with the rooting, how do i ensure I get back to where I am now ? As far as I understand, NANDROID etc need a rooted phone to backup.

3. Is it ok to use Win7 64bit to do the rooting ? Any issues ? Or better to use a linux dvdrom bootup for the rooting ?

4. Finally, many have asked this question, but I thought I'll ask anyway, which Froyo 2.2 ROM is recommended for best battery life ?

Thanks in advance.

hi, anwa, I just root and flash my Desire yesterday.

1. Using Unrevoked, no gold card is needed.
2. Use Titanium backup to do a full backup but do not do a full restore after upgraded to Froyo. See my steps above.
3. ~~~wrong advice, deleted~~~ tongue.gif
4. I am not sure since this is my first flashing of ROM. But I do like the SenseUI, so I will stick with ROM with SenseUI.

Just bought last week ? Your's is SLCD ? Method might be different. Read from XDA.

2. Titanium Backup.

3. I can't root with win7 64bit. It just won't recognize by Unrevoked.

4. Modaco r8.

1. If he is on SLCD, he might need another method. Oh well, I don't read much about HBOOT 0.83. Will check it out later.

3. 64bit won't recognize by Unrevoked. For my case tho. Some of the forumer managed to get it work with 64bit.

Just checked. You need extra file for SLCD set.
Refer below which I quote directly from XDA forum.
QUOTE
Steps for Rooting:

1. Goto http://unrevoked.com and download the software
2. Get the needed recovery image from here http://crop.floodbit.org/~defer/reco...bravo-slcd.img

***DO NOT plug you Desire into your computer yet***

3. Start unrevoked and goto File>Custom Recovery and point it to the recovery image that you downloaded earlier
4. Enable USB debugging on your Desire Settings>Applications>Developement
5. Plug Desire into your computer, unrevoked should start its goodness
6. Once you are left at the recovery boot and unrevoked says "Done!", disconnect your Desire and click the Trackpad to select "reboot system now", phone should reboot into normal mode
7. Check for Superuser Permissions app, if you see it you're good if not retry

Thanks for such a fast reply.

1. I think is SLCD. No mention of AMOLED on the box. Also got slight yellowish tinge (not bluish like AMOLED shown on youtube)

2. Titanium backup...doesn't this require root access first ? ie, the dilemma is how to back up before root ?

3. So, if win7 64bit and SLCD device the rooting process is different, does it mean higher risk of bricking the phone ? Or does it mean the method just won't work and the phone remains like original ?

4. Modaco R8 ? Why would u recommend this ? Is Leedroid any good ? I like to have the original Sense UI.

Regards and thanks again.
