Just rooted my Desire... all went smoothly (using NextSense 5.3) without installing Amon Ra and thus no A2SD+. The phone boot up fine with everything in good order.

BUT when I want to restore app+all data from Titanium Backup, the phone pop up a msg saying the program is not responding or something - so Force Close, Wait or Cancel(this one I not sure), so I choose Wait and the screen go black but the hard buttons at the bottom lights up. Waiting about 10-15 minutes later, the screen won't reappear, but the buttons light up if i press them. At the end, take out the battery and do a hard reset.

Upon booting up my old sense UI appear but now almost every program got problem and system ask me to force close...zzzz

What to do now (before I do something stupid)? Any advice is much appreciated. smile.gif

EDIT: I notice the SD card is not wiped off completely.

If you downloaded the NextSense 5.3 from XDA, it comes automatically with APP2SD+. smile.gif First boot will show about 60MB+ free space but after you did an EXT3 partition using ROM Manager, you will get about 135MB+.
*
thanks for the tips. i was wondering why the free space so low. rclxub.gif

QUOTE(DecaPix @ Aug 19 2010, 06:46 PM)
does this means we can actually use the phone without the ext partition?
*
yes, but the free space very low... no difference from unroot.

On my first boot for NextSense I have 13xmb  IIRC.
*
coz i din make the ext partition. after i download the rom manager from market and make the partition, after the reboot, the free space become 132MB.

So every apps now on will be installed to the ext partition and the 132MB will become cache?

@samurai1337 - sorry bro, miss your question, I did enable unknown source app installation.

Anyway, now reinstall my Desire from ground zero. Feel like getting my Desire at first day. wub.gif laugh.gif

AP set by default can update to FroYo but you can't root.
*
Not really if your AP is from Spore. I bought mine from there and the phone specs exactly the same as the local set here coz it is all SEA-sepcs.

QUOTE(coconutzz @ Aug 20 2010, 09:45 AM)
oh..meaning to say..i can still root..but not now..have to wait longer? So shall i wait and not update to Froyo yet?
*
as long as you haven't update via OTA Froyo, you can just root it and get Froyo at the same time. It is what I just did to my Desire yesterday. thumbup.gif

@bro CKHong, I just rooted mine and flash rom to NextSense 5.3. The phone feel snappier now. thumbup.gif But best part is the internal memory is 132mb free after the ext2 is made. I did a 512MB ext2, so now I can install as many games as I want. But my sd card left about 100mb++ only after load in the Papago X5 map - time to get a Class 6/10 8GB card. brows.gif

bro cynox,
yesterday u said ur first attempt failed rite?
which part u failed ? mind to share ? biggrin.gif
cus i saw u said that ur internal memory was low..
did u messed up on the partition ext part ??
*
ok, since the "stupid bird fly first".... I will save some trouble for you. laugh.gif

Nope, the rooting and flashing went all smooth yesterday, it is just the restore from Titanium backup that fail. So I will advise you to copy the entire SD card to your computer first thing first. But some apps like Note Everything actually store the data ON the phone but it auto backup to SD Card (luckily). I only knew this after I did the partition on the card and wipe out all data on the card and phone. rclxub.gif

So the basic step:
1. Root the phone with unrevoked (need to uninstalled HTC Sync and install Hboot driver first), you can skip the Amon Ra recovery.
2. Install Titanium Backup and do a full backup - all apps and all data.
3. Flash NextSense rom.
4. Flash Radio. (i did not restart/reboot after flashing rom, I did both flashing then only reboot)
5. Reboot/restart.
6. Find/Install ClockworkMod Rom Manager in Market. Do a ext2 partition and cache with it. (I did 512mb ram and 256mb cache.)
7. Install Titanium backup - choose INSTALLED apps and data you want to restored. A full backup will cause a lot of problem coz i think the restore try to restore back the old system files, so you will get a very unstable system - force close everywhere. rclxub.gif

I hit the wall on step 7 when I did a full restore. So at the end I pull the battery and did a full wipe out of the whole phone - get back what I have after step 5 - a clean phone. Then i installed my apps one by one manually. But i checked Titanium backup and notice I can actually restore some of my data - sms, some apps data like SplashID, wi-fi settings, etc. You just need to choose carefully what to restore.

hi, anwa, I just root and flash my Desire yesterday.

1. Using Unrevoked, no gold card is needed.
2. Use Titanium backup to do a full backup but do not do a full restore after upgraded to Froyo. See my steps above.
3. ~~~wrong advice, deleted~~~ tongue.gif
4. I am not sure since this is my first flashing of ROM. But I do like the SenseUI, so I will stick with ROM with SenseUI.

i have given up waiting... just root my Desire and flash to custom Froyo rom yesterday. There is no end for waiting. Just dun understanding how hard it be to just release it OTA in SEA since Europe has the update more than 2 weeks ago. shakehead.gif

wahh.. thanks bro cynox ~ hahaha... i'm more confident already !!   rclxms.gif
wanna as question... so if my pc never install HTC Sync...
do i have to Install it and then remove the HTC Sync ??
cus yesterday i tried, after i install the HTC Sync, i get 2 app > HTC Sync , HTC Driver something

So first thing first... if my pc doesn't have HTC Sync installed.. do i have to
1. Install HTC Sync, Remove HTC Sync and then remain HTC Driver thing

2. Don't need install HTC Sync, straight root the phone with unrevoked

oo.. where can we see the Amon Ra recovery ?? never saw that before... is it when rooting process it got selection of "Amon Ra Recovery" ??

another question is :
I saw someone said that i need to remove HTC Sync and then remain the HTC Driver thing... after i finish root + flash.. do i have to reinstall HTC Sync ??
or the HTC Sync is useless thing?? if i didn't use it to sync any data between pc and phone ??

Can unrevoked used in win 7 32 bit ? biggrin.gif
since KTCY said he failed to do it in win 7 64..
but i saw someone in the forum said they success in rooting in win7 64bit
*
yes, as mentioned by others, just need the driver but HTC Sync need to be uninstalled.

I am actually follow the guide here: http://rootmydroid.co.uk/guides/desire/how...our-htc-desire/. It mentions Amon Ra at no. 10 Step 1.

I dun find HTC Sync has any use to me, so after I uninstalled it I never install back.

I did the rooting and flashing with my Win7 32-bit laptop.

EDIT: As I did not install Amon Ra, i din follow the guide of A2SD+ in that guide. Instead, i download clockworkmod from market and use it to partition. I believe it is easier to use clockworkmod to partition.

Question:

When you see the recovery screen, use the trackball to scroll to ‘Nandroid‘ and press the trackball to select. Then select ’Backup‘ (You can also use ‘Restore’ to restore)

Once did the Nandroid... I don't need to copy the content of the image to my pc ?? it will stores magically the image ?? cus when we do the
Wipe Data/Factory Reset
i tot it will delete all stuff... so the Nandroid image won't get deleted ??
cus i dun see he said need to plug in to pc and save the image of the nandroid..
*
I just follow it. Wipe data/factory reset only done on your phone memory, the SD card will not be wiped. Only when you make partition, the SD card will be wiped out.

ohh~~ ic ic.. so it will be like this ??

before root > save all the content of the memory card to phone
root
titanium backup + nandroid
flash rom + radio
> save all contente of the memory to phone again > to another folder [to be saved]
do partition
done !  biggrin.gif
*
yes, more or less like that. tongue.gif before doing partition, only about 67mb phone memory available. After the partition, the free space increase to 132MB, awesome. thumbup.gif

the normal A2SD like not useful as many apps still can't be moved to SD Card. doh.gif

i missed out the part where i need to do titanium restore

i shud do titanium restore after i do partition rite??
what do u mean by before doing partition phone memory 67mb and after 132mb ??

means after you flash the ROM, ur memory is 67 ??
then after do partition ur memory suddenly go to 132mb??
*
titanium restore (DO NOT do full restore. Restore your apps and data one by one manually) should be done after your last step "DONE!"... laugh.gif

yes, correct, after flashing rom but before partition, free space of phone only 67mb. after you do partition, the free space increase to 132. rclxms.gif

wondering how it can magically pull those data used in the phone memory into the partition biggrin.gif
around 65mb is free from the phone memory biggrin.gif
anyway ~ haha.. dun wana scratch my head thinking on how it magically free's up the memory after the partition..
oo thanks again for your advice.. on titanium restore > dun do full restore  biggrin.gif
wah wah ~  tonite i think my rooting will as smooth as baby ass ~

wish you good luck!!!

btw, did you get a new bigger microSD card? I am using the stock 2GB, now my card left only 100MB++ space. Need to get at least a 8GB one.

I think i overheard some of the bros are receiving their Kingmax Class 10 8GB. Any update on the performance? Very keen to get one now.

hi, CKHong,

thanks for the info, using J Bench, my existing 2GB card:
buffer size 8kb
Data size 10mb
Write : 2.19MB/s
read : 9.7MB/s

the write speed is almost double for your Kingmax. I will get one soonest possible. thumbup.gif

at the centre tab "backup/restore" you will see the list of apps that have been backup. Choose the one you want to restore by tapping it. smile.gif

look at those green colour one. their name will indicate their usage like Wi-FI Access Points, [SMS/MMS/APN] Dialer Storage 2.2, etc. Those in white colour should be quite safe to restore too... mainly apps.
