I am sharing Maxis BB 3G from the iMac to the rest of the house, it really depends when you're connected, I usually get fast connections but sometimes it's slow. I think the problem is Maxis not sharing itself but then again I don't use a mifi.

You might be right... the way 3G handling data and our normal streamyx handling data is different..

I notice that 3G only start to load another source when it's current source has finish download.

Correct me if im wrong...

the difference could also be with the way ipad handles the different connection. For example, iPad recognises wifi connection to be faster than a 3G. As such, some games or apps, require wifi connection to run. Having a 3G connection is not sufficient.

Maybe the way it handles the 2 connection, just a theory, could be causing the slow speed.

Like the OS assumes wifi to be of greater speed, so it lets you load multiple websites at a time, but if you're on 3G it loads 1 at a time, and queues the rest.

Hi all
A newbie here, and want to consider an Ipad + 3G as my next gadget. I normally carry 2 phones with me, one for my normal calls (company) while the other is on my HTC HD2 which is mainly used for data (mobile surfing) plus rare occasion of calls.

Now that my HTC have sank to the bottom of the sea off the coast of Pahang, i got my Digi data plan sim replaced, and is sitting on my desk without a phone. Can i get a Ipad 3G and use the Digi data plan sim card with it? I understand it requires cutting or getting a new micro-sim, but can it be used if i plug it into a new Ipad? If it works, I may consider an Ipad for my mobile surfing, while saving my eyes from squinting on a small 4.3" screen.

Thanks for the advice.

Yes you can. Since you mentioned data-only, that is exactly what I'm using with my iPad and Galaxy S. As for the sim-cutting, you can either contact beavis68, ksc_3688 or me, but I'm not available today as I'm leaving for Paris. The other two members mentioned can help you with the sim-cutting and provide the micro-sim-to-normal-sim adapter for a fee, should you like to reuse the modified sim back into a normal phone.

@leongtat,
I don't know how it works. All I know is that when I connect 2 devices on the MiFi, the speed slows down tremendously - it doesn't seem norm.

I will test again tonight to check if the speed is slowed down on both devices or on only one and report back biggrin.gif

@stringfellow,
Haf fun in Paris and see ya when ur back, with good news `k? wink.gif

*will start praying to ensure there's minimal queue*

Thanks a lot for the reply. The Digi sim is normally used for data, although calls are sometimes put through on it. I presume the Ipad will not support GSM voice even though the Digi sim allows it, is it correct? Thus will I lose the GSM call capability if I use on Ipad?

Thanks for the advice.

@ksc_3688,
Do U notice the speed slows down tremendously when U connect more than 1 device on the MiFi?  Is it just me being too sensitive or what...?

Any feedback from MiFi users?

It actually depends on the strength of 3G in the area you are. I don't face any problem when I'm in area where I have strong 3G coverage even when connected with multiple device

My response would echo Tink's. I'm using Maxis on my 3G iPad, as although I get the "Your Sim is sending you a message" popup on the iPad, there aren't any way to check what message that is. I am using a purely data micro sim on my iPad, so it's probably just notifications about data usage and such.

@Tink

I've cancelled the Segway tour, so it's a leisurely stroll to Champ Elysees for your "stuff". As for the VAT refund, depends on how crowded Charles de Gaulle is.
