hi sifus... is 16gb enough?
*
only you can answer that for yourself~ smile.gif

depends on what you wanna use the ipad for. If just for browsing, reading some books, playing some games, its more than enough.

You might be right... the way 3G handling data and our normal streamyx handling data is different..

I notice that 3G only start to load another source when it's current source has finish download.

Correct me if im wrong...
*
the difference could also be with the way ipad handles the different connection. For example, iPad recognises wifi connection to be faster than a 3G. As such, some games or apps, require wifi connection to run. Having a 3G connection is not sufficient.

Maybe the way it handles the 2 connection, just a theory, could be causing the slow speed.

Like the OS assumes wifi to be of greater speed, so it lets you load multiple websites at a time, but if you're on 3G it loads 1 at a time, and queues the rest.

Thanks a lot for the reply. The Digi sim is normally used for data, although calls are sometimes put through on it. I presume the Ipad will not support GSM voice even though the Digi sim allows it, is it correct? Thus will I lose the GSM call capability if I use on Ipad?

Thanks for the advice.

if you really wanna make calls on the ipad

wow... i try it just now.. it's true.. no more "none" button. is it just temporary or permanently? lucky i already have US account..
*
Alright! I have just created a USA iTunes account. The none button isn't there if you follow the way that website teaches you. However, Apple themselves is here to teach you the right way.

My iPad has been delivered 5 days ahead of schedule. Its now sitting in my friend's house in Singapore and I am supposed to go down only next Monday. This week is gonna be a torture man. The Zagg InvisibleShield is sitting in my room now. Ah! The wait is gonna be over soon!

*
i am sure you can redeclare or when your fren gets the package back he can send it again as under tablet PC.

Chill man! I know you're super excited. Just like my, my iPad is still in Singapore. Only next week, when I'm in Singapore for business I can pick it up.

Counting Monday, and going...

ahh...bummer. i just subscribed to the Digi postpaid plan instead. RM68 per month wif only 3GB quota. which they will throttle my speed after breaching the limit.

i went for the postpaid coz the salesguy told me the prepaid speed is slower and not so stable...and i didnt know the quota for prepaid is counted on daily basis instead...

do u think i can convert the postpaid plan to prepaid?
*
if you didn't sign a contract, you can terminate it anytime and return the modem. You probably lose the activation fee i guess. Not sure about digi. But for maxis there is an activation fee.

it's still consider as toy to the majority. iWorks suite ? look pretty limiting from the review on apple site itself. Most with Macbook would not even wanna use that.

hi Mackiddo,

My company develops software on Mac for SMEs and SMIs. We use the Filemaker platform to develop our solutions. My customers come from various industries such as, manufacturing, retail, F&B, clinics, lawyers, hotels, and so on. Recently, Filemaker just released Filemaker Go in the iTunes store. This enables me to be able to use my iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch to connect into my database real-time, and even do transactions. Basically its the full system just short of the print function. Currently, already one of my customer who operates a high-end furniture shop is considering using the iPad as a tool for presentation for the customer as they are browsing the shop.

I also proposed to one of my existing F&B client to use the iPad to take orders as it is cheaper than buying a whole touch-screen terminal. He likes the idea as they would be the first in Malaysia to be doing that.

I'm sure there are much more uses for iPad other than for recreational stuff.

Cheers!

QUOTE(stringfellow @ Aug 17 2010, 05:08 PM)
Like I said, content creation is not one of its strong forte. Content consuming, because of the screen estate and souped up processing power, is ideal. Now, content consuming can mean a lot of things, depending on what the end user puts into the iPad. If the end user puts only movies and songs, it is essentially a big screen PMP. Others may have different plans on their iPads, including power users who are not content with using their iPad only as a mean to tame their rambunctious children on long trips cross-country.

If it is "still considered as a toy to the majority", I guess the Asus EEEPC is a toy as well? They're feeling the heat with mass migration of end users from the netbook segment to the iPad. So, are these large-scale exodus being taken as folks downgrading their personal computing experience to an iPad, or does that not justifies the iPad taking over the netbook as their personal computing device of choice? Or are you saying the EEEPC is a toy as well?

Another great example of how one can expand the iPad functionalities. My company is also exploring the feasibility of using the iPad as a device for us to do our voyage reports, and cross departmental form-filling device, in addition to the electronic flight bag already being use by some of it. The only problem we foresee is the willingness of the crew to adopt the iPad into the work routine, because it involves a significantly drastic change in the mode of data entry. Once that is accepted as the norm, the rest will fall into place, syncing will be as easy as bringing the completed paperwork back to Dispatch Central for content syncing, and re-prepping the iPad for the next flight sector. The biggest hurdle here is civil aviation certification and the change of mindset among the current crew to adopt the iPad into their workflow.
*
Yeah, though limited, it still has its uses for business.

Of course, to generate documents using productivity apps like iWorks, keynotes, or numbers, there are limitations but it can be done.

it will be another struggling waiting game for ipad 2 to release in Malaysia.
Buy the desired model at the price you feel worth it... So, can pass the old model to someone only when upgrade is necessary.

Sometimes the upgrade in a hardware is unnecessary to oneself. I myself no using webcam on laptop that much..

I have someone helped to hunt an ipad in SG too. It's not an easy task..haha...

Good Luck to whoever hunting for one now.

p/s: Anyone saw peoples using ipad inside KL LRT train so far?
*
just ask your friend to buy for you using his credit card and reimburse him back lo.

That's what I did. You get it direct from Apple, no third party puchaser, no tax, etc. It has arrived already, so I'm going there next week to collect it. You can also order whatever accessories you want from the Apple website, and they will deliver it free to your friend's doorstep.

By the way, the delivery is not 7-10 days. I ordered mine on 2nd of August and only delivered on the 14th of August. Right now its about 12 days..

Edit: the camera connectivity kit is taking much longer, Apple's confirmation mail said it will arrive only at the end of the month. So...

it is stated 7 to 10 business days which is correct for your case.. anyway I think they have more stock now..waiting time is 3 to 5 business days now hehe
*
yeah..actually in their mail to me, it mentioned that it will ship on the 17th August and only arrive on the 19th of August, but my friend called me just last friday to say the iPad has already arrived.

The connectivity kit hasn't yet but I'm hoping by the time i go Singapore next week, it would have arrived.

The date they mention on the website is 7-10 days, but once you purchase, they will send you a confirmation with the shipping & delivery dates. The dates they delivery is somehow 2-3 weeks away (i presume to give them some leeway for late fulfillment and not to get ur hopes up so high). However, the early delivery though efficient is causing me some real anxiety for this whole week, as I'm schedule to go down only next week.

Haha. This week is hmm....passing by really slowly!

Maybe it's just me... I'm having a 3G Ipad....i found that, without internet...it's kind of boring holding an Ipad.....
*
well, i'm getting one without 3G, but couple it with a mifi device.

Overall, i think it could be better with 4G mifi being the latest development. Over time, I feel with a 4G mifi, your ipad will perform much better than one with 3G.

Some apps also cannot run using a 3G connection as its deemed to be slower. So to play some games online, you need a wifi connection and a connection from a mifi device is considered one.

i guess they probably are planning 4G for iPad 2...

mifi + iPad is wonderful,...only shortfall is the mifi device shamefully consumes lots of battery power...

Thanks for the recommendation biggrin.gif Yeah one thing I don't like about typing on the iPad is that editing can be a bit troublesome, that's true. But typing, I preferr to type in landscape mode and so far no problems about it.

Yeah I guess you can say that the iPad also in a way functions as a referral device for me too, but I don't mind since that was also a reason I got it in the first place laugh.gif
*
typing ain't a problem for me...

the auto-fill, and suggestions work perfectly once you know how to work with it...

Well, iPad for me, uses so far is personal, watching stuff on youtube, chatting on IM+, surfin net and replying forums such as this, reading free magazines deciding which to buy now, listening to music, looking through pictures in a new way, checking emails & replying them, playing games...

Anything else that can be done that I missed out on?
