Fighting caused death and misery to the people. They are not fighting ghost, but real people, sir. Buddha never condoned spilling the blood of anyone, let alone an innocent.

Religion is superflous I think. Even the open mindedness of Buddhism can transform into bigotry.

So, the monk really went to India and brought back the scriptures, then translated all of them?
*
what i mean is the fighting in the past is the past. what can you do about the current fighting in the present, that is the more urgent question u and i must answer. u can't just simply equate their fighting with the truly sincere teachers around the world who are of tibetan background, can u? yes, Buddha never condoned. neither did i justify their killing each other, did i? for me, i rather not judge them, why would u?

yes it can turn to bigotry.

you only need to trace the Tibetan scriptures involved to know the truth. u might want to ask joey kun on this. he's more knowledgeable on this

hope that helps

pardon me for my lack of knowledge

dear all,

do you think watching porn/masturbating and playing video games is not good for cultivation of the mind? Is that a hindrance to nanas and the concentration?
*
I just watched Penn & Teller going against the Anti-Porn Activist last night. All the Prof that thinks Porn could lead to Child Porn and Rape is pure "BULLSHIT". wat a coincidence here..hehe

I heard that Jhanas is very hard to maintain. Must nurse like a baby. Break a bit of precept or indulge in some sensual pleasures, it's gone.

Those people that can get into the jhanas  notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif

very powderful mind.
*
yea, usually very hard solid jhanas once you come out of retreat then worry about wife/girlfriend, kids, paying bills, what clothes to wear, what movies to watch will affect the thoughts that come up during your sit.

but it's important to know what concentration feels like at the very least so when you vipassana you'll know if you're in lethargy and just drifting in thoughts. that's true for me doing mahasi noting at least, other people may have different experiences.

yin and yang is tao teaching right? does buddhism touch on this as well? i understood that buddhism ask to learn about death because according to steve job, we learn more about the beauty of living but very little on death but once we begin to understand death, the world u use to see it will be different and u begin to appreciate life more as one cannot see the suffering until when it approach them.

Death contemplation is one of the meditation subject. See yourself dying... etc..

Just finish reading the Tripitaka. Theravada Buddhism is the origin of Buddhism right, what about Mahayana , it.s has been manipulated?

is this a religion practiced or just a traditional custom? if a chinese practice buddhism or tao, does all this meant anything to them? one has to separate tradition and religion all totally right? if a family reunion is a tradition than it's a not a religion. if u read the article , there's a union of traditional custom + religion in it. Seem like it becoming more of a compulsory practice every year .

good afternoon. How's everyone's new year celebration?

Today is the Ninth day of lunar new year, some people worship Jade emperor. Isn't that Lord Sakka in Buddhism?

user posted image

The one with 4 faces is a brahma, normally depicted to have 4 faces to represent the four stations of a brahma. Lord Sakka , the king of the gods is depicted beside the Brahma.

In buddhism, there is a similar deity called Sakka or Indra. He is the king of the gods that resides in Tavatimsa heaven. He is a sotapanna (stream-enterer) after the Buddha preached to him the Dhamma.

Maybe Tiangong (king of the gods) in Chinese tradition is referring to him?
