Where did you learn you dhamma last time when you were young? At penang?

I only discovered it like 4 years ago.
*
yes, penang. i used to go PBA sunday school during kindy and later mahindarama. was very active with the youth department at one point. and also from my school buddhist society. after coming to KL, my practice has been downhill to put it plainly sweat.gif imma shy guy really, i miss all my buddhist friends in penang. i'm shy to go to any centre alone in KL i can't help it.

i'm impressed with kechara really. and i hope theravada can do something like that. in terms of commitment, i've never seen better

Tihetuka - individuals born with 3 good roots (non-hatred, non-greed, non-delusion) during the current rebirth. If got enough paramita, and if he strives can attain Jhanas or Magga/Phala.

Dihetuka - individuals with 2 good roots , but lack another one . This one practice until die cannot enlighten but the current good kamma may enable him to be 3 rooted beings in next life. The maximum can go is Access Concentration (in samatha) and some lower Nanas (in vipassana). Cannot attain Jhanas or Sotapatti Magga.

Ahetuka - individuals with no good roots , either born retarded, or without complete sense faculties to comprehend the dhamma, or born into the evil destinies. This one due to unfortunate maturation of evil kamma from the past life that clouds the individuals mind.

I will post something on that later. Trying to find the references. It's inside the classification of individuals in Abhidhamma.

No i am not a vegetarian. Yeah i know of Tibetan buddhism but i didn't really study into it.
*
It is divided into two sects: the Red Hat and Yellow Hat Buddhism. The Buddhism is quite militant, not the passive type.

In Mongolia, the Yellow Hat Buddhism is dominant because of direct influence from Tibet.

Buddha himself was an agnostic. He was a moral man with humility. Later, people divinized him and attribute supernatural miracles to him.

oh... completely forgotten about this. i guess u r one. i knew of a monk who gave up his robes in order to be more engaging and move more freely to teach meditation, dhamma because he wan't getting anywhere with his meditative experience. according to him, his practice met a stumbling block due to his strong kammic barrier stopping him from breaking the threshold to higher experiences.

types of individuals
QUOTE

(1) A Ugghatitannu : an individual who

encounters a Buddha in person, and
who is capable of attaining the Holy Paths and the Holy Fruits through the mere hearing of a short concise discourse.

(2) A Vipancitannu: an individual who

encounters a Buddha in person, but

who is capable of attaining the Paths and the Fruits only when the short discourse is expounded to him at some length.

At the present day, only the following Neyya and Padaparama classes of individuals remain.

(3) A Neyya : an individual who needs

to study the sermon and the exposition, and then
to practise the provisions contained therein for 7 days to 60 years, to attain the Paths and the Fruits during this lifetime if he tries hard with guidance from the right teacher.

(4) A Padaparama : is an individual who

cannot attain the Paths and the Fruits within this lifetime.
can attain release from worldly ills in his next existence if he dies while practising samatha or vipassana and attains rebirth either as a human being or a deva within the present Buddha Sasana.

Necessary Conditions of Practice for Neyya and Padaparama Individuals

Neyya-puggala

An individual of the Neyya class can become a Sotpanna in this present life, if he faithfully practises the bodhipakkhiya-dhamma comprising satipatthana (four Applications of Mindfulness), sammapadhana (Right Exertion), etc. If he is lax in his practice, he can become a Sotapanna only in his next existence after being reborn in the deva planes. If he dies while still aloof from these (bodhipakkhiya-Dhammas) he will become a total loss so far as the present Buddha Sasana is concerned, but he can still attain release from worldly ills if he encounters the Sasana of the next Buddha.

Padaparama-puggala

An individual of the Padaparama class can attain release only within the present Buddha Sasana after rebirth in the deva planes in his next existence, if he can faithfully practise the bodhipakkhiya-Dhammas in his present existence. The present Buddha Sasana will continue to exist so long as the Tipitakas remain in the world. The Padaparama class of individuals have to accumlate as much of the nuclei or seeds of Parami as they can within this lifetime.

For academic discussion purpose, is it the reason why retreat normally is at least 7 days duration?

great info there.

uhmm... not sure about that. but my friend told me it's because beginners will need at least 2-3days to 'settle down'. 4th-7th day is where the real work begins. i did however heard from my teacher who said that according to a sayadaw from a meditation center said that some yogis did achieve 'enlightenment' during the 7th day and these yogis became so withdrawn from society that they cant function like they'd normally would in society. hence, one or two (not sure) went back and asked for the robes. during yogi interviews, the said sayadaw ascertained their attainment

Well isn't that good if one becomes stream enterer? so happy la... next life enjoice sure go heaven or become human....

But I agree with you. Some individuals may have problem in their sex life too.. because their sensual desire is so much reduced already after they attain Magga or even Jhanas.

Yes that's true. I was talking about the most famous two because they both clashed militarily before, then the Yellow Hat achieved victory and began proselytizing in Mongolia.

Before converting to Islam, the Uyghur belonged to one of Buddhism sect too.

One question, I heard during the Tang Dynasty, one emperor sent a monk to India to obtain the Sutras. Is it a true story?

ya u do the surface first, it's called 'sweeping', then move on to the organs by visualising and zoning in your own organs, one at a time in any order or by grouping of organs. not really complicated but as i've said hmm... nevermind sweat.gif . i think u'd get a better result than me

i didn't do much to accumulate dark aura, so i dont know. sorry smile.gif
