Brand: any
Budget: below 1k
Specs: must have Android at least 2.1 Eclair, wifi, GPS, decent camera, decent sound, 3.5mm jack

I guess it's the Wildfire? Any other choices? What are the major disadvantages of the Wildfire? How about Samsung Galaxy 5?

Thanks~

the galaxy 5 is pretty cheap, but problem would be that not many ppl use it, therefore that fone might have a chance of not being updated.. and plus, the screen is pretty small.. 2.8" is small for a capacitive touch screen..

between these two fones, go for the wildfire.. but if u dont mind a 2 year contract, then go get the HTC legend from DiGi.. rm999 with 2 yr contract. its a better fone compared to these two..

galaxy S vs desire
on maxis 12 month plan.. rm1699 vs rm1499
a rm200 difference.. is the galaxy worth the extra rm200?

the only pros of the galaxy for me is the 0.3" larger screen, true multi-touch (desire is dual touch only) and 16gb built in memory.. other features like wifi-N, hotspot creation, bt3.0 are worthless to me..a big cons is no LED/xenon flash..

it depends on what you want in a smartphone.. if gaming is a priority, then galaxy S would be the best because of their GPU which is currently the best out there.. Desire's GPU is kinda sad.. and then also, if u want a more rich display, the Galaxy S has a Super Amoled display with a contrast ratio of 10000:1
and sucky part is really that the camera doesnt have flash.. but the camera on the Galaxy S is better than the one on the Desire..

But gotta give props to Desire for being a solid allround fone, Desire just lacks in the Graphics department (well all snapdragon fones for that matter)..
And Desire's current software is a little more stable than the Galaxy S.. but many new updates are coming out to solve some software issues, and Froyo is coming out this month as well..

So its up to preference.. i say go test both the fones out. it will help u make ur decision..

and another thing.. if ur getting the maxis data plan.. please do not get the 500mb data plan, coz ive read too many cases of superhigh maxis bills just because they exceeded a little pass the 500mb usage.. at least get the 1.5gb one, best is get the 3gb data plan..

Wildfire... It's disadvantage is only the screen, but not a major 1 for me. And the slight slower response that's after u install a lot of stuff in it

Desire has froyo already jus on 30th aug, merdeka present... 500mb is enough if you are using wifi at home and office... not a problem for me, last month i have to purposely finish my quota with downloads...

yeap, agree with riezky, official firmware would be a problem.. this fone doesnt really have a community of developers.. so u might get left behind as well..

i would stay clear of this model, and go for a more common model (motorola, HTC, samsung)

HTC Wildfire vs HTC Legend, I'm planning to get either one of those, what do you guys recommend? I wanna get it with the contract stuff, if im going for Wildfire then it's Maxis for me, but if it's Legend then it'll be Digi lor

for now the Wildfire is being sold at RM500+ right? 24 months contract, I don't mind the contract cuz I'm gonna use the phone for some time.. Is it worth the extra 400 bucks for Legend? I prefer the Wildfire's looks than Legend's TBH.

i would say go for the Legend, 1st reason is because its DiGi, their data is unlimited data, whereas if u go with maxis, 500mb data might not be enough, many ppl have complained abt maxis' data charges, but all depends on how u use ur fone, but if u want to be on the safe side, go with DiGi, coz once u exceed the 500mb data limit of maxis, ur bill is gonna cost a BOMB!.. so if u still really wanna go with the wildfire, and stick with maxis, then just make sure u get the bigger data package..

well now about the fones, the Legend, is better coz it has a faster processor, higher resolution screen, and nicer built..

the wildfire is also a good fone, but the Legend is just better..

I'm stuck with a HTC Touch first gen and it started showing problems and such.
Now I actually want to hop on to the Android bandwagon.

Budget : about 1k+
Brand : Not much comment
Specs : 3.5mm jack, at least 3.5" capacitive touch screen, Android 2.1 Eclair.

I actually have my eyes on Acer Liquid E now, but it's RM1450.
I also wondered, is the price influenced by its date of release? The Liquid E only released on August.

im not too sure about the acer android fones, coz theyre not as popular, and their community is much smaller compared to the htc, motorola and samsung comunities..

problem with acer android fones might be the updates and the modding community (but as i said, im not too sure bout that)

but if u want a android fone that is at least 3.5" and at that price.. it would be the motorola milestone.. if u want a newer fone, it would be the milestone xt720 (but its a little more expensive, and not that much of a diff compared to the milestone).. some other fones that fit ur budget, but not the screen size u want is the Legend and the wildfire(both 3.2")

btw, ur budget of 1k+ reaches how far? if it can reach bout 1.8 to 1.9k then u can get the htc desire and samsung galaxy S(8gb ap set about rm1860)..

Hm... about 1k+ is about RM1200 only. Can't extend till Galaxy S.
And communities or whatever... I did check on XDA forums, they even offered a modding centre for Acer phones thumbup.gif
I seriously wonder if the price will drop since it's still very new

in terms of specs, the fone seems to be quite decent.. and its a 3.5" screen, so its quite interesting.. PERSONALLY i wouldnt go for an acer android fone "YET", mebbe sometime in the future.. but not yet..

u shud go read some and watch some reviews on youtube about the fone before u decide.. just as long as ur happy with ur fone..

not sure abt the price movements part tho..

and your other choice which is abt the same price as the acer liquid E would be the milestone ap set..

so its just depends on which one you prefer.. but really, go read and watch some reviews.. it will really help.

Thanks, considering the Legend right now. RRP is about RM1,500, so is it worth it to get it from DiGi at RM999 with 2-year contract? Actually thinking of getting it with data plan for my wife since her SE K660i is problematic. Neither of us has actually used Android before. Is it easy to use? She'll be using normal phone functions and for surfing, Facebooking, taking pics, etc. Any DiGi outlets where we can test the Legend?

if u dont mind the 2 year contract, then i believe that rm999 is a good price for the legend.. with this contract, u haf to sign up with their DiGi smart plan, which is actually pretty good.. unlimited data is the most useful thing abt this plan..

anyhow, about android fones, it is pretty simple to use, but might not be as simple to use as the iphone, but definately much easier to use compared to windows mobile.. and there is a slight learning curve, but u shud be able to get the hang of it pretty easily.. go watch vids of the legend, it will provide u with some knowledge on how an android fone works.

this fone is quite a decent fone to use for surfing, and the sense UI which is applied onto the legend, will provide some good facebook intergration..
not sure on whether DiGi stores would have a test unit, but u could try goin to places like lowyat to test the fone, and theres also a digi outlet in lowyat, so if digi doesnt have a test unit, i guess u could try testing it at some other dealer's booth..

Thanks a lot for your prompt replies. DiGi OCS says there's a Legend at Solaris DiGi Center on display, we'll go check it out smile.gif don't want an iPhone, Apple is too arrogant.
One last question!  Is Froyo in the works for Legend?
