Brand: any
Budget: below 1k
Specs: must have Android at least 2.1 Eclair, wifi, GPS, decent camera, decent sound, 3.5mm jack

I guess it's the Wildfire? Any other choices? What are the major disadvantages of the Wildfire? How about Samsung Galaxy 5?

Thanks~

the galaxy 5 is pretty cheap, but problem would be that not many ppl use it, therefore that fone might have a chance of not being updated.. and plus, the screen is pretty small.. 2.8" is small for a capacitive touch screen..

between these two fones, go for the wildfire.. but if u dont mind a 2 year contract, then go get the HTC legend from DiGi.. rm999 with 2 yr contract. its a better fone compared to these two..
*
Thanks, considering the Legend right now. RRP is about RM1,500, so is it worth it to get it from DiGi at RM999 with 2-year contract? Actually thinking of getting it with data plan for my wife since her SE K660i is problematic. Neither of us has actually used Android before. Is it easy to use? She'll be using normal phone functions and for surfing, Facebooking, taking pics, etc. Any DiGi outlets where we can test the Legend?

if u dont mind the 2 year contract, then i believe that rm999 is a good price for the legend.. with this contract, u haf to sign up with their DiGi smart plan, which is actually pretty good.. unlimited data is the most useful thing abt this plan..

anyhow, about android fones, it is pretty simple to use, but might not be as simple to use as the iphone, but definately much easier to use compared to windows mobile.. and there is a slight learning curve, but u shud be able to get the hang of it pretty easily.. go watch vids of the legend, it will provide u with some knowledge on how an android fone works.

this fone is quite a decent fone to use for surfing, and the sense UI which is applied onto the legend, will provide some good facebook intergration..
not sure on whether DiGi stores would have a test unit, but u could try goin to places like lowyat to test the fone, and theres also a digi outlet in lowyat, so if digi doesnt have a test unit, i guess u could try testing it at some other dealer's booth..

Thanks a lot for your prompt replies. DiGi OCS says there's a Legend at Solaris DiGi Center on display, we'll go check it out smile.gif don't want an iPhone, Apple is too arrogant.
One last question!  Is Froyo in the works for Legend?

Yesterday went to Solaris Digi with wifey to get her Legend. Being absolute Android newbies, we didn't know how to do the simplest of tasks (like locking the screen) and had to ask the staff standing around there, but were told to read the manual tongue.gif told them there was no manual, only a quickstart guide, so they took the phone to the back to ask the technician... that's certainly not quite satisfying... I mean, they stand around the phones all day, and they don't know how to lock the screen?

The phone itself is spectacular. After using it, I wonder why Symbian is so popular, it feels like stone age OS.

Since Aria and Legend are offered at RM999 with 2-year contract at DiGi, which is the better phone?

Aria is nearly the exact same fone as Legend in terms of hardware except that it the Aria has a slightly lower capacity battery and uses TFT screen instead of the Amoled on the Legend (and again, if im not mistaken.. do correct me if im wrong)
*
So there's no reason to get the Aria with DiGi's Smart Plan package?

A birdie told me before that seller selling at RM 599, at lowyat plaza. Normal retail price would be RM699

The LG O1, cheapest i can find is RM 850
*
This seller selling LG O1 for RM813 with free screen protector, pouch bag, car charger and car holder. Shop in Kepong. I am SO tempted.

Liquid metal has the DZ's processor, but got terrible camera.
Captivate, got every thing the sgs has minus front cam.
Desire is old imo.
*
I've read reports of lagging in the Galaxy S. Is the Captivate the same?

Is an SE X10 worth it? Used for calls, SMS, Facebook, taking pictures and posting... in short, casual use. Found an excellent condition 2nd-hand one and thinking of buying it for my other half, then I can inherit her Legend tongue.gif

Which Android phones have nice speakers? I hear my colleagues' iPong4 and Desire, both sound 'breaking' when playing loud ringtones.

Not bad! But only found 1 seller in Garage Sales. Galaxy Ace wins in 3.5" 16-million colours screen, 800Mhz processor, 5MP camera, LED flash, wifi b/g/n. I'm aiming for this! We'll see if price falls in the next few weeks smile.gif But internal memory 158MB... hmmm...

Yea, seems promising for OP1 but i still prefer samsung galaxy ace, their own UI is smooth and it has swype pre-installed. 5 MP + Bigger Screen + Prettier images is definitely a + point tongue.gif

*P/s: i am getting myself a samsung galaxy ace, just sold my milestone yesterday. Love the looks of galaxy ace. IMO OP1 is quite like the CSL/HTC TATOO~
*
Not to mention the 800Mhz processor, LED flash, 16 million colours. I'm seriously getting one too. Are you getting the black with matte back or white with glossy back? Buying from LYN seller or shop? So far saw 2 sellers in Garage Sales only... RM960 and RM950...

Doesn't make sense to sell O1 to get Ace. Is Angry Bird really that important to you?

most who are less tech enthusiasts will go for iphony, this is what i observe la.. so far 90% of my female friends dont know the existence of android/google phone. They will only show positive reaction toward iphony
*
This could be due to the crowd you hang out with. Mostly bimbos? Even my HR uses Desire HD.

Both the Aria and the Gratia are the same thing, just very minor cosmetic differences. You won't find a Gratia thread here cause no one sells it locally. smile.gif

I'd recommend you look elsewhere than the Aria though, phones like the Optimus One and Galaxy Ace are similarly specced yet much cheaper.
*
Gratia selling for RM1259 here. Selling point would probably be design, brand and HTC Sense UI. Otherwise OP1 and SGAce would be much cheaper.

im sorry but i hv to ask tis android os need to flash...i mean is it a similar thingy to iphone's jailbreaking term?
*
Android's rooting (depending on manufacturer, may be legal, some don't care) = iPong's jailbreaking (illegal, voids warranty)
Android's ROM-flashing (DIY) = no equivalent in iPong. You can only update your iOS if Apple lets you.

Do the Vibrant and Captivate suffer from lags and poor GPS performance just like the Galaxy S?

Samsung Galaxy Ace is a very good choice.
It's balanced everywhere, IMO.
It looks like a smaller sized iPhone 4.  tongue.gif

The size is almost same as iPhone4. It's more like a smaller sized Samsung Galaxy S II.
