android battery life is extremely short. if u have many calls or do a lot of activities, it will die within half-day.
and even if u got techno-geek frens to help u download this and that software, optimize battery...u still must constantly carry a charger or 2 or 3 spare batteries (depending on usage) just to last the day.

furthermore, when u have rough movement in the pocket de huge screen of htc desire/moto milestone/samsung will be cumbersome and high risk of damage.
unless of course, ur style is baggy pants wink.gif
but i suppose if u r the suit-wearing type, it is not possible! nod.gif  nod.gif

I own a Samsung Galaxy S. I'm telling you, I use my phone a lot, SMS occasionally, twitter,fb and email updates syncing every 1 hour. sometimes chat on Gtalk when i'm on the LRT. it lasted me 2 and a half day. I dont carry extra battery either. how about that?

Im not sure about HTC or motorola, but there's already a lot of Galaxy S screen scratch test that show's it is really quite tough. I myself dont use a screen protector and wtf i dont wear baggy pants. baggy pants are so skater boys and I'm not into that kind of fashion. my daily apparels are tshirt and jeans.

the only thing that i miss about my old phone is the ability to text with one hand without even looking at the phone, so i can text while driving. but now, i cant do that anymore since everything is based on touch and there is no button to feel.

ok i'm a just a regular guy like anyone outside there who hasn't landed hands on any smartphones , most of my buddies are using Iphone , so of course i've played with it , but not HTC or any other brands ...

I'm actually deciding whether to get the new Iphone4 or HTC , so i hope forumers here can highlight without me going over so many pages ...

my basic needs for my smartphone gonna be :-

- clear calls , as in voice are sharp and clear
- checking emails are priority
- SMS are priority as well as a communication between client and I ...
- easy to use interface , without me thinking much where to press or where to choose when in need of a function.
- i need to write a lot of short notes especially
- FB and MSN is an added bonus
- durability as well , as i'm always on the go , i do have rough movement at times , so i want the phone to be slightly tougher while in my pocket.

i guess that's all i can think off and i hope ppl who had own both phone can really help me out , i'm not really a tech guy but i prefer a phone that work for me and not vice versa ...

thanks in advance ...

well, you can do most of the stuff on any new mid and high end phones. notably, Android, iOS, Maemo(Nokia N900), RIM(blackberry).
durability, iphone 4 is not really good in this, you will need to do more research on this, but for android phones(high end ones) they are pretty good in this section, i am not sure about berries though.
as for interface, if you want to get used to a new OS as fast as possible, i think iOS would be slightly better, but androids aren't all that bad either. generally, it'll take you about 1 day to know the main features that you want to use, and a couple more days for you to get used to a new OS.

or i could be wrong , so it will stand on

that why i said with SGS you need to do about 1 or 2 tweaks or update it to a stable firmware, so it will be perfect (IMO), before i buy i also see people afraid of buying it cause samsung have a poor record in supporting software, but i was kinda wrong, alot of firmware have been roll out, got one time, in a week 3 firmware come out.. sure it got bugs here and there, so does desire and iPhone 4. but i can still use it with ease on daily based.

if you a kinda guy like to buy a phone and then just forget about updating the firmware, i think desire is more suitable, as it is more stable out of the box.

iphone 4, i dont know

yes u truly hit the point , my work doesnt evolve around the computer , so i wont have so much time to update myself on new apps and such , so i would prefer something without much hassle out of the box and ready to hit the day with me ...

learning to use a smartphone is a definite , albeit i had one last time , the 02 executive with windows platform , that didnt last long for me b4 i got rid of it and going back to my old SE K750i , but nowadays i'm limited to the wide usage of internet while on the go ... therefore i would prefer something steady , reliable and price wise competitive , i think now it just boils down to

Desire or IP4 ,
RM2050(sg set) for the ip4 and rm2199 for desire(local set) ... both share the close usage of my need , but desire lacked in the 16gb although i can always upgrade it. ah well , best is get out there and try both phones , i can do it for the HTC but ip4 ... let me get a person who has it and test it out ...

Android battery life should be able to last at least 1 full day for heavy usage

I doubt anyone will need 2 (let alone 3) batteries for a day of usage. Of course, it's a good practise to bring the micro USB cable along in case you need to charge it on your laptop during working hour if you have a long day smile.gif

quoted for truth.

my milestone lasts 1 day of heavy usage.

If you want an easy out of box experience with little hassle : iPHONE4 but you have to bear with its closed system and necessity of using iTunes to manage it
HTC Desire - if you'd like to experiment with customizations, theme changes, and roms. This phone will still meet all your requirements

I don't have iPhone 4 but based on my experience of using the iphone 3GS and Google Nexus ( similar to htc Desire ) -- my present needs are met by the Nexus. Now I use the iPhone only for audio books and watch video podcasts ( all these need to sync thro iTunes ).

u know... i realize 1 thing about the end users... they seem to get drawn by apple so greatly that when i ask them and try playing with my desire, this was his comment:

"it's not as smooth as iphone, it doesn't follow ur push pressure like the iphone, it's something money can't buy..."

I was like huh? I helped a few people configured iPhones for syncing mail and i didn't feel that difference... the only difference i felt was the animation method... hmm.gif

love this review from GSMARENA.. LOL

"iPhone 4 is like watching a video of the best porn star. Samsung Galaxy S is like having sex with an average girl, she may not be the best porn star, but at least its practical"

interesting review and i respect their opinion.
overall it's one of the best geek reviews out there, just focus on the specs.
it doesn't compare usability e.g. battery life, smoothness of UI, etc.

as expected design, display, apps nobody can deny ip4 is de best.

if a geek/nerd is looking for a phone, android is the BEST!
because with so many choices of vendors use android in their flagship phones
never doubted that.

unfortunately, nothing is still done on de fundamental weakness of android

touch UI, battery life, apps.

Unluckily, being slim is not equal to being portable

Galaxy S has a 4.0" screen size and it's no where near to the thinness of a card, so you still feel "something" if you put it in your pocket (same goes for iPhone, Desire etc) if you have tight jeans. In that sense, I would think BB Bold is more pocketable than big touchscreen phones

you guys been very helpful but i guess i've made up my mind , now after have the fundamental understanding of android OS , i'm not really a geek person who can spent some time doing reading and researching ,

out of the box , and straight to the point i guess i have to favor more to ip4 on that , thanks for all the feedbacks but one day if it permits i will try the android ...

really appreciate the comments and suggestions ...
