No offense really, ATi users wants to know even more than the Nvidia users about the GTX460 brows.gif
I hope we'll be seeing a steady price drop of the the 5830 and 5850 starting August..although overseas the price drop has been commenced about a week or more, it will take a little bit of time for the local market to adjust to this new pricing... nod.gif

Guys, you know what..I have the nagging feeling that the existing 5850 owners that own their cards for more than 5 months now (or ever since October 2009, like me tongue.gif ) wouldn't want their cards to depreciate in price, in which this 'price drop' will devalues the 5850... whistling.gif whistling.gif whistling.gif
Next thing you'll know, your 5850 only laku for RM600 in Garage Sales : laugh.gif

Oh, this is sad news. sad.gif

ATI’s next generation Southern Islands cores are not promising anything spectacular. It looks like these cores are going to be just a tweak of ATI's existing Radeon HD 5000 series architecture.

This is mainly due the fact that this generation remains developed for 40nm and ATI still doesn’t have any new amazing architecture until 28nm and we have already reported that 28nm cores are coming sometime in 2011.

Source: Radeon HD 6000 is a minor improvement

Still looking forward to the new 5670 successor though.

QUOTE
It doesn’t look like ATI is planning any dramatic price cuts of its chips in the short term. Partners and retailers can cut their profit margins in order to get more competitive but the really significant price cuts should come in October.

We just received confirmation on something that we have been reporting all year long, next generation ATI cards are coming in the latter part of this year, most likely in October. This will simply be one year after the introduction of Radeon 5000 series and we can also add that the new generation is still 40nm.

Our further investigation also led us to find two codenames Turks and Caicos as these two cards should replace Radeon HD 5670 and Radeon 5550 and 5400.

Cayman (Southern Islands should be a group codename for Radeon 6000 series) should be the codename for the product that replaces Radeon HD 5800 series, but as far as we know this chip might actually not make it to market this year, but it also might launch together with the other ones in October. The company also plans a dual-chip high performance card.

ATI's next generation GPUs to come in October

ATI dun need major improvement wit southern island, just has to grab bck the single chip performance crown from nvidia (which nvidia only had ~15% lead).

ATI knows dat nvidia will not hav ntgh much to offer in the high end market, other den possible dual GF104.

i think ATI is playing it smart, keeping the performance boost for northen island. dis increases the chance of winning another round of GPU war.

btw, 6k series line up will probably b announced on late december/october wit the real availability squeezing in too q4 2010 just b4 xmas.

what is your fan speed? or its default? download msi afterburner, turn the fan to 30 or 40%, its not too loud but the result should be good. if u r looking the cheapest, i found xigmatek bifrost for only rm140 in the forum, new 1. can turn to 100% fan speed, result will like the stock cooler turn to >50% fan speed but more silent. not from my experience, but from what i read smile.gif

Relax dulu, harga skrg masih ngem lagi, sekarang jual pun laku RM800 tongue.gif
.... in couple of months can CFX the 5850 for sure when this card becomes cheaper,
plus the news that the 6 Series won't yield major improvements means the existing 5850 user can still use their cards for the next 2 years before updating to the 28nm cards...so mass CFX'ing of 5850 are imminent to happen pretty close in the future....
