hi guys...

just want to share with xt720 user how to install app2sd.
but im using ubuntu to do all this..

steps to prepare micro sd:
# format ur micro sd on ur phone..
# then shrink the volume for 1g to ext3 partition and linux swap (128 m)...( im using gparte ubuntu).
# format the ext3 partion using ubuntu disk utilty .U need to ensure the check box with 'Take Ownership of the File System' is unchecked for the partition before you create it otherwise the partition is created and it has superuser permissions only.
#done
Steps to prepare for installation:
# download app2sd version 2 here
# Unzip the downloaded file and you should see a folder "APP2SD Package".
# Rename "APP2SD Package" folder to "app2sd" and move this folder to MicroSD. (place it in the root: MicroSD card/)

Next, simply connect the XT720 to your computer.
Ensure it is "Charge Only" for USB connection and USB Debugging mode for USB is turned on under Settings > Applications > Development.
Once you have the above checked, go ahead to launch a command prompt and perform the following:

Type: cd/ (to get to the root of your C: drive)
Type: cd /android/tools (to get to the folder of the Android SDK which i mentioned earlier)
Type: adb devices (you should see your Milestone serial number showing up. If you do not see serial number, it means there is no connection to your Milestone)
Type: adb shell
Type: su (make sure you do not see a prompt window on your Milestone. If you do, grant permission for it to access)
Type: cd /sdcard/app2sd
Type: sh install_use_busybox.sh (trigger installation of App2SD)
Type: y (to confirm that you want to install)
wait for the prompt to show you that App2SD is complete and a reboot is needed for it to take effect.
Type: y (to confirm reboot. You might notice that Milestone do not reboot by self which is normal)
Type: reboot (if you find Milestone do not reboot after you enter y as above mentioned)

Enjoy after the reboot... this works yes:D rclxms.gif rclxms.gif
How to check app2sd working or not?
If u see /data/app1,/data/dalvik-cache1,/data/app-private1 on ur mobile thats mean this work..
Then u need open up terminal emulator and type them one at a time:
su
rm -r /data/app1
rm -r /data/dalvik-cache1
rm -r /data/app-private1

or if you have root explorer you can go to
/data, you'll see those folders there and you can delete them if you want

I'd suggest doing it through terminal emulator just cause thats how i did it

hope that helps, good luck guys! thumbup.gif

Which writting languague??

I think there has a small manual come with the box which teach you how to install chinese input languague.

If not you can go market search for google pinyin.

After that go Setting>Input and Keyboard > check you just installed input.

Then hold & press the input box until a menu come out, select you input language.

Seems like we are off topic already...

What i would like to know about this phone is hows the camera performance compared to the original milestone. Since its equipped with a xenon flash, i expect it will solve low light picture taking issue. Bumping the megapixels doesn't make much different if the picture turns out dark n hazy. Im surprised how good 3gs takes indoor shot even without flash, im not sure if this is android issue or motorola itself.

Could u guys (with the phone) take some indoor shot with the default settings? And perhaps shots with both flash on & off just for comparison.

seems like it has improved battery compared to the milestone.

What type of battery it is using? Like the milestone the model is BP6X. If the battery is the same, then it is a very impressive piece of hardware.

Anyone interested getting this phone for rm1.8k? Comes with docking station and pouch and other standard accessories. Later i put the advert.

Camera improved a lot compared to milestone, with 8mp and xenon flash, indoor picture will look better.

And its lightweight compared to milestone, first time i held it i thought i was holding a case instead of a phone. Probably because i already used to the milestone weight.

droid x and xt720 spec is totally different. the similarities probably 8mp shooter and hdmi port and it ends there. if the gsm version even exist, it will be very expensive, no less than rm2.5k imho considering the fact that its in the same league as iphone 4.

i just bought this phone, using it for few days already. seems like i'm going to let go off my milestone sad.gif the reasons?

1. lighter
2. got fm radio
3. better camera
4. better flash
5. iphone style 'cut n paste text' (same as in droid x)
6. iphone style auto arrange home screen icons n widget
7. did i mentioned its lighter?

nice phone. once we get froyo, it will be fast.

All android phones need root to give freedom for customization. I want to remove unwanted apps that I never use, wasting the phone internal memory. I also need to overclock so that the camera can take picture faster.

it's a great phone but the metal part somehow made the phone looks cheap, maybe that's just me.

Added on July 13, 2010, 8:37 pmAnyway, how do you disable the camera click sound?

Desire is a faster phone, have to correct you on xt720 spec, it only got 256mb ram not 512mb. Desire runs on a 1ghz compared to 550mhz on xt720, that will make a lot of differences in term of performance. Only froyo can make it faster, if we never get root on this baby.

The real milestone xt720 just released in uk... its 720mhz proc with 256mb ram.. the starhub xt720 just same as korean motoroi... with SLOWER speed... if any of you really interested to have this phone. .. don't buy from starhub... just wait for uk ver to land here... do a research 1st ... like true android user do.. here evidance
http://developer.motorola.com/products/milestonext720/
actually I'm now a rooted user... I more prefer to root my phone than stay stock... but rumors said this phone have same bootloader like droid x did.. its locked and harder to root. This phone just the only Motorola's phone that come out to our area with android 2.1.

I don't giv a shi* for those qualcomm proc based phone anymore... I need better proc performance like TI OMAP proc in most motorola phone.. and samsung hummingbird proc... u can see it urself
http://androidandme.com/2010/07/news/droid...t-professional/
SADLY Motorola's market range ALWAYS pointed to US area with cdma ver... we as android user here just stay and watch US android user happy-ly got their latest phone. I actually hate waiting for new motorola phone gsm version to come out here... like we can see the delay of motorola milestone to be available at our country.. if I wait for droid x gsm ver(could be milestone X??) to came out... it will be 3~6 months of waiting ... its almost crazy....

If you wait for the uk version to arrive I think you will be disappointed because even uk version runs at 550mhz. Just do a little bit more research (like true android user as you said) and you will found out about it.

There is a rumor about singapore xt720 having a clock speed increase to 720mhz in the future when the phone gets the new firmware update. But as of now, all xt720 runs at 550mhz, unfortunately.

Oh, and another thing, this phone is not the only motorola phone with android 2.1, we also have the original milestone.

Where did u noe the uk ver also 550mhz... u got link to prove it? As stated in my comment the motodev link show us its 720mhz.. what are u up to? Motorola itself say it was 720..

About the milestone... ur last sentence. . That model orginally come with 2.0.. the new batch only build in with android 2.1, u can see the keyboard not including voice button... so its will be an hardware issue. . We talk about new phone that come out at this area not the old one... haih

Motodev website stated the speed is 'up to 720' not equal to 720, so they might increase the speed from 550 to 720 in the future

If up to 720mhz so its 720mhz it is lor, like my magic its 528Mhz.. max if u root ur phone and not overclocked the max running is 528mhz u can check it using root app, same as stated that magic is 528mhz qualcomm proc in its spec. Same as nexus one also.. 1ghz snapdragon so it can run Up to 1ghz MAX...

About ur link... y the review just so short and no pic..
I more prefer review from engadget and cnet..

Where did u noe the uk ver also 550mhz... u got link to prove it? As stated in my comment the motodev link show us its 720mhz.. what are u up to? Motorola itself say it was 720..

About the milestone... ur last sentence. . That model orginally come with 2.0.. the new batch only build in with android 2.1, u can see the keyboard not including voice button... so its will be an hardware issue. . We talk about new phone that come out at this area not the old one... haih
*
U want link? u got it, u want Prove? u got it.............go read up bro....is 550Mhz

UK XT720

actually i also so interested to know what are the different for Spore starhub set and europe set. before that i been doing reading but at last i give up(too many version come out), so i come to conclusion that even If UK Xt720 spec is different, i doubt it will be launch in spore as i dun think there will launch 2 same phone(except processor) in the same country. so i got my Xt720. one more strange thing is starhub mention they launch milestone XT(not XT720), but my phone BOX, phone clearly stat it is XT720.....motorola is making us confuse.....why cant they just launch one model for all country, except GSM and CDMA version.

I'm using a motorola milestone XT720 as well.. just got mine last night..

i believe the cpu speed is underclocked to 550Mhz to preserve battery life..
hopefully along with the next FW upgrade they will clock it back to 720Mhz.

yup. a forumer using desire to swap i oso reject.

this is a good camera , problem free phone.

not like n1, need to root in order to work like a normal phone( bluetooth file transfer etc), need to own setting up for internet connnection (set up APN etc, i am kinda lazy to DIY so many thing) .

this is a good phone for a lazy bug like me. hahahaha...

the advantages would be the ability to take picture at night and a good SD (standard definition 480p) daylight video recording, because xenon flash cannot be used as torchlight like led flash. u also can experience android but u cannot do any modifications because its not yet possible.

even though both are using the same cpu and same amount of ram, 3gs is a bit faster, if u swap u will miss the snappiness and smoothness of iphone menu navigation. if u are happy with your 3gs then i suggest u keep using it. probably best for both of u to try swapping phones for a week and see what its like using it as normal day to day usage.

i chose this phone over the 3gs (i have both 3g and 3gs before) because i want a good camera, a radio, an android and it's just that i'm a motorola fanboi tongue.gif

knowing that all new products will have some kinda bugs, i would say the hardware has great potential, and there are definitely still roooooms for improvements in the ROM, i'm seeing some bugs here and there, but nothing major.. might have to watch the battery though.. i had mine running HSDPA/Wifi alternately when it's available all day long, and screen set to dimmest, and it's only good enough for a day-long of abuse.. so if u're not able to charge your phone on a daily basis, make sure u cut down the battery usage..

and also the confusion about UK set having 512mb of ram is over.. it's official in UK site, 512mb of rom, 256mb of ram, and it is running @ only 550Mhz for now..
so there is only ONE XT720, no UK set, no Asia set, no Singapore set. all same..

multitasking in ios4 and android is different. in ios4, the app stop when u change to another app and it will continue when u choose it back. but in android, i can download a video or movie from the internet and at the same time make some calls or watch a movie after that. by the time my movie ends, the download finished.

all smartphones have a range of 5-8hours of wifi/3g usage so thats normal.

If that's true then all starhub xt720 owners must return back their phones because it's wrongly clocked at 550. Perhaps can sue them as well for selling wrongly clocked phones?

With the discovery of root method for droid x, it seems that the method is also applicable to other motorola phones as well. Both xt720 and devour has been rooted with this method.

It sounds like a good news but there are big risks if we choose to root the phone at this moment, namely the inability to un root and chance of bricking the phone when doing factory reset or system updates. I would just do it if my phone does not cost 1.5k tongue.gif

I guess we have to wait a little bit longer for a safer method but if you like living dangerously.... biggrin.gif the only thing the root gives right now is the ability to remove the system apps, things like starhubtv and stock keyboard maybe?

I've attached the original milestone screen protector, seems to fit nicely covering the screen, and the hole for speaker is exactly the same.. but it is not large enough to cover the mirror-like surface on the edges.. works much better with a matt surface.. the screen is really a finger print magnet..

i took off the screen protector after just 2 days of use.......reason:

1. if you set screen brightness to low(which i do for longer battery life), the visibility under sunlight is worst with the screen protector.

2. still will leave some finger mark on matt surface, more difficult to clean then the orginal glass.

3. the matt surface actually blured a little bit the screen, which i felt lower down my enjoyment of the superd screen.

4. because it doesnt cover the whole screen, the edge of the protector collect dust.

I got mine last week. It's from Starhub as well. Came with the plastic docking station as well as casing. Really good but the battery needs to go throuh a few charge cycles in off mode before stabilising. Btw, I've been a huge Motorola fan since I started flashing/rooting Motorola E398 wink.gif

My last one was a V9. It took some effort to move the contacts because I don't store in SIM but managed to find a Motorola BACKUP backup site and uploaded my contact from my old phone from there. I went to the site and exported as .csv file and uploaded that into my Google Contacts. Then I synched from my phone and the contacts were downloaded.

found a perfect solution to solve the crappy camera.. apparently the limitation is in the default camera app, it doesnt allow you to control the JPG compression..

go get Camera 360 from android market, and set the image quality to 100%, the image size will jump drastically from 1+MB per photo to 4+MB per photo, and you will see the image quality go up on the same time as well... but the trade off is it will take slightly longer to write the photo to your SD card, so dont quite the app immediately after snapping or you will end up with half-saved photo.. and also the Camera360 is not bug free, saw lots of typo, and some of the settings dont work as they say, but heck, small trade-off for big image quality improvement, i'll say YES!!

only 1 model lah... the processor is capable of 720mhz, but its clocked @ 550mhz now.. go check in moto products page lah.. I think the confusion is because moto release the news before spec is finalized.. so news has 1 spec and actual product has another set. .

yes, currently sometimes i felt the transition from screen to screen are not so smooth or have to wait a while, if clock speed faster this will be reduce. but for me, it is still bearable........depends on individual usage.

if you increase the clockspeed, then expect the battery life to be shorter..
heard of the original milestone going beyond 1Ghz, so i think the XT720 should have the same potential too.. but whether it's necessary, different story lah...

my personal opinion after using this phone for more than a month, the speed is quite ok. when people say its slow, they are comparing with 1ghz equipped smartphones, of course it will be slow but it wont reach into the annoying level yet. For day to day use, I would say this phone is good. I browse websites everyday with it, download songs, movies, youtubes, documents and when Im home, I use USB tether with my laptop.

AP price costs very high, because they provide the warranty service (u dont have to go to singapore) but if u happened to be able to go down there, I suggest u guys go and buy the phone from people who bought it with contract. u can easily save around rm500-600 if u do that. xt720 is an expensive phone, in SG its S$988 if u buy it without contract, in US its $599.

agreed on the battery life thing, but compare to my frs HTC desire which running at 1Ghz, my milestone xt720 battery life is just comparable to his desire. In my opinion, xt720 should have longer battery life since it running at 550mhz....

but as i mention, the speed of xt720 is still not annoying me, so no complain. i charge my phone everynight, so as long as battery life can last me from morning until night, i can accept.

conclusion, xt720 a great phone foe me........yeah!!!

yes agreed, go to singapore, buy from othes ppl, or even some shop selling Starhub set without contract with cheap price, normally range from SGD550~600. but this shop normally wouldnt do warranty claim for you for free, you need to go direct to motorla SC in spore to warranty / software upgrade urself.

As of now there is no nandroid backup option yet, only the starhub sbf flash file is available. So be careful when doing modifications to the phone.

What do you get when you gain root access?
- system app removal, like starhub tv for example
- replace stock keyboard with the droid x multi touch keyboard
- overclocking, only attainable using milestone overclock 1.2
- remove the camera click sound

Running at 1ghz is damn fast, the 3d gallery opens instantly images load right away, menu navigation also fast even the battery drains very fast tongue.gif thats why I'm using 800mhz instead because milestone overclock app only allows 600, 800, 1000 & 1200. I would use 720mhz if it's available.

you can use setcpu app. can set custom speed based on profiles, such as on charging, on low battery (can set how low), on temp sensor (can set the threshold) and more.

to unroot it's just a matter of removing all the superuser app that we put in for root. or just flash the stock starhub sbf file biggrin.gif

From wat i heard.. the milestone 1... they say milestone 1 is very stable at 1.2GHz.... so i think xt720 have the same processor as miletsone1 then should b able to do so
n they say once >1.2GHz, then it'll be very unstable ad.

just now i tested hd recording with speed at 800 and 1000. unfortunately, video recorded still not smooth, still stutters a lot, all the time. my guess that's the limitation of 256mb of ram. what a letdown. having a hd recording capable device but cannot take a decent video out of it.

no.. i meant there might just not be an XT720 with 512mb ram.. no one confirmed it's existance to date..
they would be stupid to lock it down to 256mb if it really had 512mb, and they would be stupid to introduce different ram size in different continent, and use the same model name..

no.. i meant there might just not be an XT720 with 512mb ram.. no one confirmed it's existance to date..
they would be stupid to lock it down to 256mb if it really had 512mb, and they would be stupid to introduce different ram size in different continent, and use the same model name..

Why even bother buying here with the high prices? Go to Singapore, its only SG570 with Free Docking station & Leather case.
And they confirm CPU speed is 720MHz

http://www.whymobile.com/productinfo.php?id=MOT-MSXT720

So SG570 is (570 x 2.3) = RM1311

Somemore original set. Any problems, Motorola Singapore take care of it, giving you original parts.

Phone won't give problems. Especially Singapore sets. Somehow they are better quality.

The new ori set when launched here might even cost RM2500 since the Milestone cost aroung RM2000 plus.

You don't want to buy AP lah with all the horror stories.

Just take a bus down, day trip and you can return the same day also.

You still save over RM1000 ringgit.

no doubt 1ghz is fast but it will be very hot, not good for the device itself.

since we can change it on the fly, i normally set it to 600MHz with 46vsel (for everyday use). if i'm browsing or youtube at home with phone on the dock, i bump it over to 800MHz, much better browsing experience...

currently messing around with the hd recording settings.

i think i have misled you guys at some point.

rm250 for sirim logo - i shortened the whole thing. it is true that we need to pay rm250 for sirim logo, but the logo means it has passed the test by sirim. we need to send the phone to sirim if i'm not mistaken and they will do something about it. i'm not sure how do they test it since you only bring 1 phone but thats another topic to discuss.

just wondering how many MB is a photo with 8 mega pixel taken by X720? One of my friend said is less than 2MB but from my experience by using SE W995 with 8MP, the photo is more than 3MB at least...

With the default camera app, i think it is indeed smaller than 2mb, if u use 3rd party app to control the jpg compression, then it will swell to 4~5mb per photo..

default camera app set the image quality to normal thats why we get smaller image size. if i use 3rd party app and bump all the resolution & image quality to max, i will get 4mb file size.

there is this touch to focus feature in default camera app. do you guys manage to get this to work? i mean if we have 3 objects and we want to focus on the left most object, will the other 2 be a bit blurry?

not necessarily blur.. it depends on how far apart the 3 objects are from your lens.. if they are all on the same distance from lens, chances are all 3 will be the same whether they are clear or blur.. if lets say u have 3 objects with varying distance from your lens, and u focus 1 of them, then yes, the other 2 might be blur..
notice that i use the word might.. cause there are more factors that could affect the depth of field too, but i think lets not get too technical in android forums.. haha..

i still have 60mb free internal memory. not much app installed since most of the time i only use the browser, tether, camera and watch movies. the only game i have is skyforce tongue.gif last time use iphone i have 10 pages of apps. but only use like 1 page of them.

1 question with app2sd. when u install an app from market or from sd card (apk), do u get to choose where to install it (phone or sd) or it goes straight to the sd card?

news says sometime in september for milestone, hopefully XT is not too far apart..
wonder when will they do a global launch for XT720? still couldnt find XT720 in US site, and when i click on User support for XT720 in moto SG site, it links to US server and says page not found...

With the default camera app, i think it is indeed smaller than 2mb, if u use 3rd party app to control the jpg compression, then it will swell to 4~5mb per photo..

So do you mean by using 3rd party app, we will get a better quality of photo?

I am a newbie to andriod, just wondering for all andriod app, do we need to pay or is free? any website for andriod app?

Thanks...

normally i can get at least 30~40hrs without Data on(HSDPA).

this weekend i will try ths again....to see whether really is the data eating u all my batt......

do you have anything that requires constant data connection running in the background?
large amount of data like downloading will kill the batt, and u will feel heat at the back of the phone.
wifi will kill the batt slower, and less heat... so use wifi whenever available biggrin.gif
my phone is connected to HSDPA 24/7 and it usually last me from 7am - 8pm before i need to charge it..
i would say usage is quite heavy (but not as heavy as downloading files) as i sync it to my office mail and my hotmail, and i do surf when i travel in train..

you can use setcpu app. can set custom speed based on profiles, such as on charging, on low battery (can set how low), on temp sensor (can set the threshold) and more.

to unroot it's just a matter of removing all the superuser app that we put in for root. or just flash the stock starhub sbf file biggrin.gif

XT720 users!

Would just like to know the screen clarity of the device? Well it'll probably won't be no Super AMoled but is it close to AMOLED? Coming from a TFT equipped Samsung omnia where screen clarity is just average inmy opinion blush.gif

No qwerty. Better no, cos the slider easy to spoil. No moving parts are better.

Hello guys just want to share some advise I discovered on xt720. I rooted and tweaked the phone here and there for the past 2 days and finally freezing it up on the starhub logo and not showing the motorola logo sad.gifsad.gif So I panicked and find solution all over the net on how to reset the phone. I came across motorola website saying use the camera key+power button to load recovery screen. Well, thats not entirely true!!

!@#%$!#@$ for making the phone and giving false info. Come on! mad.gif I spent 2 hrs just blindly pressing the buttons over and over and over and over again for goodness sake!! Oh well that enough for tension release....

Anyways, the exact buttons that you need to press:

1.Press Playback key first then power button and hold them for a while until the triangle with exclamation mark and a phone icon appear.
2.Release them. Then press the camera button + volume up button and hold them until the recovery menu shows up.

PHEW!! I thought my phone is done for despite having it for 4 days only. Now that's left is starting from scratch, I wouldn't recommend anyone to keep using the overclocking tools. The last boot up i did to my phone before show the 'display of hell' was oveclocking it to a mere 800mhz. So yea.... doh.gif

i've overclocked mine to 1.2ghz, runs quadrant once then it reboots. best setting for me still 800mhz with 56vsel.

Not sure but that's just what happened. Making the matter worst my phone froze on me around midnight today on Friday the 13th. LOL quite the coincidence huh...anyways its good to go again after factory reset.

By the way, does anyone know of any good gps that works great all over malaysia? The motonav provided can barely read my location as Im in Sarawak and so is the google map. I use Garmin XT on my previous phone and its by far the best navigation with complete road coverage but apparently its not available for all android.

Managed to find the lowest vsel setting for 1Ghz on my phone. Currently at 58 and set display brightness to highest, turned on Bluetooth, Wi-fi, GPS and was using the browser to surf and also launched a game all at the same time.

Was running vsel=54 for 800Mhz. When I bumped up the speed to 1Ghz with vsel=54, it rebooted.

With vsel=56, phone booted up but as soon as I tried to move to another home page, it froze.
With vsel=57, phone booted and was trying out all the functions I mentioned above but the phone froze as soon as GPS was accessed by Foursquare application.

Will be trying for the lowest vsel for 800Mhz when I have the time.

anyone knows any other ways of getting the vsel value besides milestone overclock 1.2?

i'm starting to be sceptical because i'm doing 1Ghz @ 49vsel now, and i dont see any problem in my daily use. i play robo defense, i surf with dolphin HD, and i play with papago map & sygic mobile maps from time to time, and i have my APN running 24/7, with email app running in the background syncing to my office mailbox.

it's either the processor is good, or the milestone overclock 1.2 is not working..

oh ok, i got it. the bootloader is locker. i guess the theme shud be customizable. the graphic proc in this phone is PowerVR SGX535 right if not mistaken? same with the iphone 3gs and galaxy. hmm.gif i wanted to have hands-on on this device to see whethet it suit to my liking. IMO, motorola shud come with a version minus the hdmi and camera. as will not be using those features much. laugh.gif

Hi all,
I am very new here, just get my XT720 2 days ago. Very happy with the phone and really like it very much. It got a bit laggy at 1st but after I installed Prolauncher, it become smoother a lot without any live wallpaper.
But today, I encounter a small problem, I cannot surfing with the wifi which previously can. HSDPA surfing is ok and fast enough. Just cannot surf via wifi. Anyone encounter the same problem b4 and know how to solve it? thanks~ ;p

recovery mode = toggle camera mode button + power
- presented with the triangle image
- can be used to do factory reset, load update file, custom recovery (not yet possible on xt)

bootloader mode = camera shutter + volume down + power
- flash sbf file with rsd lite, return to stock firmware

plug the cable, open rsd lite (must have usb driver installed), choose the right sbf file then flash away.

sbf normally has 2 versions, service and without service. service version will retain all your data in the phone. the other will wipe the phone clean and install all stock stuff like a new phone. both will not delete files from the sd card.

- use rsd lite 4.6
- make sure to install the motorola usb driver

if still cannot detect, change to a different usb port or a different computer, never use usb adapter or extender.

plug the cable, open rsd lite (must have usb driver installed), choose the right sbf file then flash away.

sbf normally has 2 versions, service and without service. service version will retain all your data in the phone. the other will wipe the phone clean and install all stock stuff like a new phone. both will not delete files from the sd card.

You can use the phone without adding gmail account. At that touch android screen, just touch all for corners of the screen starting from the top left point.

Anyway, good to hear that you managed to flash it back. Just be a bit careful when installing stuff that will alter the system files. The hackers already found a way to put custom recovery and even custom rom into droid x. Hopefully it will be applicable to all motorola phones as well.

recovery mode = toggle camera mode button + power
- presented with the triangle image
- can be used to do factory reset, load update file, custom recovery (not yet possible on xt)

bootloader mode = camera shutter + volume down + power
- flash sbf file with rsd lite, return to stock firmware

As of now, I dont think it support Full flash yet because it is still Android OS 2.1. Have to wait a bit longer for Froyo 2.2

Will be trying for the lowest vsel for 800Mhz when I have the time.

how do u guys change the vsel? smile.gif

I don't think we can save photos to the phone memory.

Maybe you have many apps running and you happen to take large pictures, which take time to process. It never happens to me though. Try download cache cleaner from the market and see how much it can recover and then take pictures again.

https://supportforums.motorola.com/communit...oftwareupgrades

MOTOROI will be getting froyo in Q4 2010, i guess XT720 will be getting it too, since they are essentially the same phone..

and another piece of rumour that might just be a great surprise

https://supportforums.motorola.com/message/220036#220036

says XT720 might have 512mb of ram, but because the kernel in this current rom could not see anything beyond 256mb, so it is limited to 256mb, for now..

phones running at 1ghz speed are known to have a bit shorter battery life. as daily use (sms, call, web browsing, tethering, downloading, music, movie) even at stock speed, it's still ok to use if u replace the default home launcher with launcher pro.

i just missed the qwerty keyboard... how i wish droid 2 coming here sooner...

Playing a game through HDMI on a big TV is fantastic!

How do you get this to work? Is there a hack for this. On my setup I can only see videos and picture by explicit setting it to HDMI. Unfortunately this option is not available in any other application except video player.

Thanks for this. I did managed to get the phone to do that once by fluke and the phone screen stayed on the video controls but the HDMI was output to the phone screen. Since then I did not managed to get it do that again. I will play with the buttons until I find a combination that reproduces this "feature". I also remember playing a movie and trying to exit when that happened. I did manage to play youtube videos web-browse etc but the orientation was stuck in portrait so was a bit awkward.

wanna let u guys know that App2Card currently not working with XT720.. It's only work with milestone.. The partition function work perfect, but the transfer function unstable, sometimes work and sometimes not.

So, the best to transfer ur apps to memory card is by using adb. I already infrom to the creator of App2Card, hope he'll fix it asap. Coz referring to his description, it compatible with XT720..

Now, let just wait for the autor reply smile.gif

guys..
just received reply from the author..

actually, that's how the App2Card work. Its not automatically move from internal to SD. For this latest version, he change it to manual coz of some reason. Mean, we need to transfer the apps to the SD. Then we can wipe the internal memory. In order to check the Apps really work on SD, we can check by using "Quick System Info" from market.

So means, this App2Card work fine. Just back from watch Chelsea match. I'll give a try now.. happy.gif

**add**
btw.. he also mention about "Multi-account/use", where we can create many accounts and we can save all the data includes: apps, apps data/settings, contacts, sms, emails, calendars, tasks to SD card. So, once you switch between storages (internal memory <--> SD Card, or SD card <--> another SD card), you also switch between accounts with corresponding personal data/apps profiles.

never happen before..
maybe there's too many apps running? use advance task killer or just use the task manager from the menu, and close some apps that not used and not related with system. Such as, yahoo messenger, yahoo mail, facebook, browser, market, music etc. smile.gif

the ori pouch and dockstation is a perfect match for the XT720. have them, love them..

another tips for XT720 users, for additional chargers, you can also use any new nokia chargers that uses the micro usb connector, though they charge much slower than the original moto charger.. i assume car chargers from nokia works the same..

Added on August 31, 2010, 12:16 pmCredit for the 2.2 JIT compiler goes to antibyte for the Frozen Eclair project
Credit for the original apps2sd instructions/script go to jakelights for finding the script and whomsoever wrote the script (not referenced in forum post)

I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF YOU DAMAGE YOUR PHONE!

THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE PROVIDED AS-IS AND BY APPLING THESE TO YOUR HANDSET YOU TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CONSEQUENCES!

Step One: Create an ext3 partition on your MicroSD card
This step is tricky, and the only reliable way I have found is to use gparted under linux with your microSD inserted into a card reader. THIS LINK will provide instructions for use a gparted live CD so you do not have to install linux on your computer.

1. First create a fat32 partition at the beginning of the drive leaving about 1GB of empty space (more or less depending on how much space you want for installing apps)
2. In the empty space create a linux ext3 partition
3. Flag the fat32 partition as boot
4. Apply changes

Step Two: Copy files to the microSD card
This presumes you have already placed the microSD card back in the phone.

* Unrar the attached file to the root of your microSD card. It's critical to running the script later that the path to the apps2sd directory be /sdcard/apps2sd

Step Three: Install the necessary applications
Make sure you are already signed into a Google account so you can access the market!

* In the Market download an app called Estrongs File Manager
* In the Market download an app called BusyBox
* Open Estrongs File Manager (listed as ES File Explorer in your app drawer) and you should, by default, be seeing the files/directories on the sdcard
* Tap on UniversalAndroot.apk and use the Package Installer to install the application
* Tap on MilestoneOverclock132_xt720_3.apk and use the Package Installer to install the application

Step Four: ROOT!

* Run the Universal Androot application and tap on Root :-) (wait for it to finish before going back to home screen)
* Run the BusyBox application, tap on Install, then tap on OK when the Superuser Permissions dialogue box pops up.

Step Five: Run the script
In order to run the script from your handset you would need a terminal application installed and the script will try to move the application while running ... NOT RECOMMENDED! (see post #3) Please only run this script using ADB access from your computer. I've uploaded another guide I wrote on setting up ADB access on a Windows computer and attached to this post.

* Open a windows command prompt and type in adb devices to see if your device shows
* If your device does not show go to MENU -> Settings -> Applications -> Development on the phone and enable USB Debugging (you might also have to drag down the notifications bar, select USB Connected, and change the mode to Phone & Portal)
* Once you have a device showing under adb devices type in adb shell
* Make SURE your screen is unlocked then type in su, hit enter, and tap on OK for the Superuser Permissions box that will pop-up on the handset
* The command prompt should change from $ to # indicating you now have root access to the file system
* Run the following command: cd /sdcard/apps2sd
* Run the following command: sh install.sh and enter a y when asked if you want to proceed (assuming you do)
* Enter a y when prompted to reboot

IT WILL TAKE 5 - 10 MINUTES TO REBOOT - THIS IS PERFECTLY NORMAL - TIME VARIES DEPENDING ON AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS MOVED AND SPEED OF YOUR MICROSD CARD

Once your phone boots up apps2sd should be working, JIT should be enabled, and you are good to go! Use the Milestone Overclock application if you want to see some extreme performance boosts!

*Update 8/29/2010 - Script has been updated to let you chose which options to install and a modified version of the NexTheme with LauncherPro has been added
If you have already run the script just run it again and say "n" to installing APPS2SD and JIT in order to get the NexTheme installed.. thumbup.gif thumbup.gif
