I think most people are using WD Mybook elements?

For me personally I like to build my own drive.
I have a few Samsung F3 1TB in Hornettek Hover SSC external enclosures.

But if you don't want to do anything like that, I guess the WD Mybooks are rather good.

We normally don't compare between companies, but between their products. Samsung's F3 is good, Seagate's Momentus XT is better if you have the money, and WD also has some good stuff. It depends more on your budget and what type of hard disk you want.

5400RPM drives.
You're only using for storage, so it doesn't matter. More over you're transfering over USB, doesn't matter even more.

I went on Friday... all shops told me no stock! vmad.gif
Only those small corner shops has 1 or 2 left, but they mark the price up really high.

USB 2.0 itself is already a bottleneck lol.
The max you can get out of USB2 is 30-35 mbps.

On average, most "green" HDDs runs up to 90mbps.
So yes... regardless of what you do, theres going to the be limitation of the USB there.

Otherwise, get an external enclosure with USB 3.0 (which you will then need a USB 3.0 expansion card unless you already have one), or use eSATA.
