Well, it doesn't matter whether is an Android thing or motorola thing, these 2 make a perfect couple.

Who say we need iPhone?? Android is the real king. tongue.gif

Currently there are already 2 milestones available.

First the motorola milestone (With slide out keyboard)
Clock @ 600mhz
Ram @ 256mb

Second there is motorola milestone XT720 (No keyboard)
Clock @ 720mhz
Ram @ 512mb, but according to moto dev website, it states 256mb. Unless you find someone who has torn it apart, no one can really confirm it I guess since motorola understands and knows that android 2.1 only supports 256mb. And with droidX in the pipeline, android 2.2 release on the XT720 may not be the major concern for them. And although they probably will release 2.2 on the XT720, it will not be the flagship handset of their android line. This may be purely a marketing move on moto's part.

I hope this clears up any confusion.

You can download ringdroid and handcent SMS, using both you can make your own ringtone/notification tone and handcent you can make your own vibration pattern.

I hope I can clear things up...

1. original milestone runs at 550mhz with 256mb ram
2. Milestone xt720 got 2 versions but I believe only 1 available at the moment, the one that runs at 550mhz with 256mb ram
3. There are news about europe version getting down spec from 720mhz/512mb to spec same as no.2

android 2.1 support only 256mb? Care to share where you get that from? Did you know that droid x runs on android 2.1?

It has 512mb built in, but it won't get all 512mb.
I am using galaxy S and it only detects 256mb.

http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-2.2-highlights.html

It's the kernel that makes it so, not so much the OS version.
I only said 2.2 because it definitely comes with the kernel that supports high memory.

Yes, I do know that droidX runs on 2.1 at the moment, but this model is supposed to be their flagship model now and 2.2 upgrade looks to be in the pipeline for it as well since it has the added ram.

that's sux. knowing that your phone has more memory but you can't use it, apart from nexus one owners I guess. galaxy s is a very fast phone, seems like it's using the same cpu as the droid x.

I guess x10 owners would be very angry with this limitation, since the phone has 384mb ram.

That page doesn't actually say that 2.1 supports up to 256mb of RAM only. The N1, Desire, X10, Evo etc all have 512mb RAM and I never heard/read anything regarding the lack of RAM.

Maybe it's Samsung's problem?

Probably you don't read all of the contents but efuse already existed even in droid and milestone. So far nothing happened to those phones.

We might not get custom firmware but root is possible.

There is a reason why motorola lock the bootloader. More people with custom firmware means higher risks of bricked phones, thus more warranty claims. I hate their decision on this but when you compare the ratio between users like us and mass market users like our uncles or sisters who are not going to explore the phone like we do, it's a better approach in term of business.

Just tried Rockplayer on my Milestone. Finally Divx, mkv and rmvb has been unleashed on our Android platform. Smooth as butter on the Milestone.

actually warranty is not the reason for motorola to lock the bootloader. coz once u root your phone, your warranty will be void. HTC n other android phone did not lock their phone, and i'm sure alot of those phone had been bricked but we don hear issue ppl complaining claiming warranty from HTC. coz for those that flash their rom, they know the risk.
