yea i confused with this one too...either 720mhz cpu 512mb ram or 600mhz 256mb ram..
some say only uk set have 720mhz 512mb, and sg/korea set 600mhz 256mb
*
Currently there are already 2 milestones available.

First the motorola milestone (With slide out keyboard)
Clock @ 600mhz
Ram @ 256mb

Second there is motorola milestone XT720 (No keyboard)
Clock @ 720mhz
Ram @ 512mb, but according to moto dev website, it states 256mb. Unless you find someone who has torn it apart, no one can really confirm it I guess since motorola understands and knows that android 2.1 only supports 256mb. And with droidX in the pipeline, android 2.2 release on the XT720 may not be the major concern for them. And although they probably will release 2.2 on the XT720, it will not be the flagship handset of their android line. This may be purely a marketing move on moto's part.

I hope this clears up any confusion.

You can download ringdroid and handcent SMS, using both you can make your own ringtone/notification tone and handcent you can make your own vibration pattern.

I hope I can clear things up...

1. original milestone runs at 550mhz with 256mb ram
2. Milestone xt720 got 2 versions but I believe only 1 available at the moment, the one that runs at 550mhz with 256mb ram
3. There are news about europe version getting down spec from 720mhz/512mb to spec same as no.2

android 2.1 support only 256mb? Care to share where you get that from? Did you know that droid x runs on android 2.1?
*
It has 512mb built in, but it won't get all 512mb.
I am using galaxy S and it only detects 256mb.

http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-2.2-highlights.html

It's the kernel that makes it so, not so much the OS version.
I only said 2.2 because it definitely comes with the kernel that supports high memory.

Yes, I do know that droidX runs on 2.1 at the moment, but this model is supposed to be their flagship model now and 2.2 upgrade looks to be in the pipeline for it as well since it has the added ram.

My sis is using the milestone, and I have a few queries.

Firstly the contact list doesn't show groups.
What are you guys using that shows groups or settings to do so.

I apologise for not always participating in this section of the android forums, but because my sis uses the milestone I'm here.

She does face some issues when using the phone.

I installed launcher pro for her, but she tells me that it hangs at times and gets laggy.

Has anyone tried installing the lite custom rom from the XDA forums?

@under18

Thanks for the feedback, I don't see my sis often enough to diagnose her problems. Next time I see her, her phone will be with me for only 1 night so I can install a custom ROM or something to make her android experience better.

At the moment she complains that it hangs and stuff.

Any recommended ROM to install that is lean and stable?

I'm reading xda devs at the moment and one ROM did state that it is light version and stable.

I see, thanks for the feedback.
Are you using the stock launcher at the moment?

I'm thinking of getting ADW for her when she gets back. I really don't think the hanging and stuff is that much of the phone's fault but rather more like the launcher wasn't optimised to run on it.

The ghosting only appears during charging? Or is it all the time?

Means yours is not related to mine.
I did ask a technician, he said charging IC chip has issues. Changing it cost RM160 or so.
Because mine is ONLY when its charging, or when got air-con air blowing onto the screen.

2 separate issues. Try it, stand under air-con and try dragging stuff around on the screen. lol, let me know what u experience.

OCed to 1ghz, min is 250mhz scaling.

Touchscreen test is an app on the market.
Why don't you try running CM7 on it?

Well, based on my experience with the MS. It is one of the trickier devices to hack.
Especially since the bootloader is locked down like a nutjob in an asylum.

But if you follow the instructions properly over at XDA devs to have the BL exploit load open recovery, then you're good to flash CM7.

Even better, you can use your external SD card; make sure it's at least class 8, and partition some of it to be ext3 to be used as an extension of your phone's internal storage for apps. So there's no need for apps2SD and all that nonsense.

To be honest, the MS isn't my main phone, it's pretty much just my tinkering device. Although I carry it around with me for GPS, gtalk, etc.

been quite some time since I last posted here

time has come, sadly for the demise of my milestone and also my departure from the Android world. I'm settling down for a berry. Its been a great phone, until the touchscreen decided to go wonky and we all know without the touch screen working perfectly, the phone can only be a good paperweight.

P/S: I would appreciate it if anyone has any clue about where to service the phone by a proper technician who knows the existence of the brand "Motorola". smile.gif

The HTC chacha is a great replacement.
Aiming for that to replace the milestone.

It could be digitizer, charge controlling IC, sweaty palms, wet screen, dirty screen and any combination of these and more.
