My quest for Unifi Coverage in Neo Damansara - An update:
Yesterday (26Feb), I sent an email to unifi@tm.com.my and told them of my request for Unifi coverage. They called me just a few minutes ago.
The Unifi person who called me up transferred me to another person at the Sales section who advised me that, according to a memo from another department (I think it was the Networks team), dated 2 weeks ago, Unifi coverage is EXPECTED to be completed by 31 July 2013. Note the emphasis on EXPECTED. The Sales guy said that this is just an expected date and could be complete as early as March since the 9 surrounding buildings have Unifi coverage already.
So, there you go folks, shoot these guys an email to get update Unifi coverage information.

Thanks. I had send an email to them already. Good Info.
I think I'd rather wait for Unifi, as Streamyx is not enough for me. I used to have 4mbps Streamyx. And I was not at all happy with it for the following reasons:
1. 1000RM deposit for expats (and I've not received my refund for this!) which is not written on their ToCs. 2. False advertising (sign up for a 4mbps plan and you only get to use 3.2mbps max) 3. Upload speed is crap (my 4mbps plan then was only capable of 125kbps upload speed)
The first Fiber ISP that gets Neo Damansara hooked up gets my hard-earned buck!
ADSL in malaysia is a best effort basis. Our ministry MCMC has stated, best effort must at the very minimum achieve 70% of advertised speed. Your your 3.2Mbps is still very much within the acceptable 70% threshold.
So word of advice to everyone, when you see best effort basis, subscribe to something faster, cause the 70% of advertise speed is a real lame excuse.
hi i have a question. i am a streamyx user..which is currently fixed and running at ipoh..parents house...i am staying in seri kembangan and planning to apply for UNIFi for my apartment..coverage is available...but i need to know..they have advertised that the "free first month subscription" is it true or will there be hidden charges....and i tried to apply online..and they asked me to choose 2 dates..but when i do..their system forces me to pick the same date..unfortunately...its almost impossible to choose the same date..as the system keeps showing unavailable date.....so if i go to Tm and apply...how long will it take for them to come and fix everything? and how does the billing work?
pro rate for the first bill? installation cost, how much? website states few hundred only.. how long after applying will the come? any hidden charges in future bills?
I wonder when Unifi will come to Perlis aka my Kampung.
My streamyx is tucked up as of now. Those damn thieves stole the telephone cable yet again, for the copper inside of course. We've been without internet for a month now...

Sorry not to disappoint anyone here but expansion of TM Unifi now is very unlikely to take place any more unless you plan to move into some new high end housing development that made a pact with TM for the private partnership program. Most of these housing developers who made the private partnership program for HSBB are selling homes which will never be afforded by the middle class or lower.
As soon as Phase 1 of the HSBB ended on December 2012, the BN government had stopped giving subsidy grants to TM therefore it is expected that fibre expansion works will slow down considerably or come to an eventual halt.
Moody's Research comments:
QUOTE
As a result of the high dividend policy and commitment to return excess cash to shareholders, cash flow metrics will continue to remain inconsistent with the current A3 rating. Furthermore, further HSBB investments will be made by TMB without any government grant, and which will further pressure its cash flow metrics.
Those who live in cities such as Georgetown, Ipoh, Malacca, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching, I do feel sorry for you all.
So much for the slogan lies that lauds:
Tiada Terpinggir, Tiada Tertinggal
When so far 1.4 million out of 20 million plus citizens only subscribed to the HSBB project.
With the same amount of investment funds they could have used VDSL2 technology and delivered close to 5X the coverage on FTTC/FTTB technology instead of using the obsoleted GPON FTTH.
That also means close to 5X the premise passes and 5X the subscribers.
Thailand manages to pull fibre cabinets on the road without being spoonfed by their government yet the average connection speed for their lines are now 10mbps for around RM100.
We got MSC standard etc etc but still now not all benefited from it. so shame la.. even me on Semenyih approx 37.4 KM from Dataran Merdeka Kuala Lumpur & 29.9km from Prime minister office still dont have HSBB. hahahahaha 8MB Streamyx even cant support soooooo sad........ true story..... TM also send me email that stated they has do not have any plans to Upgrade in this near future so im stuck with 4MB streamyx and just keep on smiling thinking WHAT IS THIS MSC thinggy for.
I'm so sorry for this misleading statement made by myself :

It's supposed to be ~1.4M homes passed but with only 517k subscribers. In simple terms it means only 1.4million premises are only eligible to apply for Unifi and that includes unoccupied/abandoned premises out there.
That makes it 0.517 million Unifi accounts over a population of 29 million people.
