of course it doesnt. unifi is for high-income areas.

sarawak, even for cities like kuching does not cut it. the high cost for implimenting the FTH network makes deploying it to any parts of that rural sarawak not feasible. you are lucky that you even have ADSL, if i had it my way, you all should only be using 56k modems.
*
A bad joke. I though you're being extremely rude for a second there.

Anyway, I'm guessing it won't happen too.
Might as well just enjoy FTTH around my area then.

now 512k upload photo is damn slow especially is in high resolution.
sometime share doc with my friend also need time with this 512k speed
i trust that 5M upload is much better rclxm9.gif

With TM's weak security and hidden remote management settings in place, it's dangerous to have a fast upload line in speeds of over 10mbps.
Your computer may become a bot or a distribution hub making file uploads in just a matter of seconds.

talk about being paranoid. like this we can all use 56k.

if you know of the weak security, patch it yourself. use your own modems/routers. the lack of upload speeds (512kbps is still considered fast) will not stop your pc from being infected and becoming a bot, foo .
*
I've never said anything about slow downloads.

What I mentioned is that having an upload speed in excess of 10mbps would turn your machine into some distribution hub which could leak your files out to prying eyes thus it's a security weakness.

I mention this is because even though Unifi might claim that they are FTTH, countries like Thailand and Taiwan which both adopts ADSL2+ and VDSL2 widely are still performing better than us in terms of pricing and performance.

A good 2-3mbps is more than good enough for uploads. Thailand ADSL2+ upload speeds gives you 512kbps for the price of RM60.
For the same price of Unifi VIP5, you are given 12mbps/1mbps.
http://www.3bb.co.th/product/adsl/6mb.php

Here is their IPTV package which costs RM29 only per month.
Look at the number of channel offerings they offer for IPTV and HDTV. Even Allure 18+ Adult movie channel on HD.
http://iptv.3bb.co.th/th/home/index.php

As for downloads, in general very seldom international download speeds could exceed 20mbps. Give it another dedicated 12mbps for HDTV IPTV broadcast, 32mbps is more than enough a good figure which each home needs for the next 3-5years?

All that is sound with VDSL2 deployment which allows upto a dedicated 100mbps per twisted pair port.

The right speed packages for today's bandwidth demanding homes is 24mbps - 32mbps including a dedicated reserved bandwidth for IPTV.

Telco operators are now realizing it's a waste of money to deploy GPON FTTH when it's not promising anything better than the rest.

VDSL2 when line bonded and further improved with vectoring could offer upto 300mbps DEDICATED per port on copper.
GPON FTTH when spliced upto 32 people offers a max of 75mbps per user.

Tell me which technology is much proven, cheaper, easier and faster to deploy?

Those cabinets labelled with Cxxx are fiber distribution cabinets for passive optical networks.
They are used to organize and hold fiber optic cabling for passive optical networks which doesn't require any active power supply apart from the OLT at the exchange.

As for the 'V' labelled cabinets by ZTE, they are modern remote DSLAMs which are capable of VDSL2 services with just a swap of line cards inside.

Have you seen in the deployment map last time by TM? It mentioned that urban areas and capital cities of states would still get 10mbps broadband while high economic impact areas get 20mbps.

I'm guessing this is what they meant. To eventually offer 10mbps broadband packages sometime end of this year or in 2012 using this remote DSLAMs for such areas. Not sure whether it'll be ADSL2+ or VDSL2 but anyone living within 500m away from this cabinets are likely to be eligible.

Some telco companies in US and Europe already started switching their copper broadband users from ADSL2+ modulation to VDSL2 to take advantage of the extra bandwidth. All this with just a swap of a line card and a new modem at the customer's premise.

If you live within 2km from an exchange, VDSL2 gives better bandwidth and advatages such as higher uploads and download speeds.

Anything above 2km, the performance of VDSL2 and ADSL2+ are the same.

But within 1.km, VDSL2 could provide upto 20mbps while ADSL2+ speeds drop below 20mbps if distance is above 1km.

Your Theory is half correct only...
The fact is TM will put fiber optic cable from their backbone to downstairs Converter BOX of your condominium.
Secondly TM will pull from their converter box to your VDSL2 existing copper wire to your unit.
Note: The Converter box function as convert fiber optic signal or called data to electric pulse or called signal as VDSL2.
Hence, unless you live in the condominium that height more then 1KM....... even KLCC or the tallest building in the world?
The only problem is the latency and the respond time variance between the fiber optic and copper wire.
P/S: Network cable CAT5e also good as 100meter only... (not made in China) if China cable 20 meter already got problem.

Unifi of Unifi...it is already almost june...where ar u...i bored already with streamyx 1Mb...

i wonder why streamyx is called broadband...for me it seem like nerrowband
-line not stable
-speed superbly slow

this kind of attitute is so thirdclass country....

Added on May 23, 2011, 6:59 pmto Ampang people...

as we all know that half of ampang is already been covered with Unifi...which is Bkt Antarabangsa areas,Ampang Jaya areas,Taman Tar,Bkt indah and etc...

based on my observation this area is either have alot of Condos/apartments or extremely rich people live there...or else their phone Hub is from Wangsa Maju thats why they get it first...

meanwhile

My area is Tmn Bkt ampang just opposite that what i said above...this include, tmn watan, tmn tasik, tasik permai, tmn seraya, tmn muda, and all the taman2 that exist there...all the taman here is Terrence house (rumah teres leceh sikit nak pasang - TM need to upgrade the phone line la...the installer need to inspect first la...and so on...plus this area is an average citizen zone...not so many condo but alot of rumah flat/pangsa around (nilam, lembah jaya, near Hospital ampang, flat at kg cina ampang)...and the phone hub from Tmn Tasik...03-4292XXXX

so thats why my ampang area still not yet cover by Unifi...tq TM

those from outside KL/selangor...it seem like u need to wait much more longer then i...even KL/Selangor still not yet fully covered...

I've went through ZTE's VDSL2 whitepapers to suggest this.

They have 3 ways for VDSL2 can be deployed depending on the telco.

1st: (30a Profile) Fiber to the Basement(FTTB) which Unifi uses in Klang Valley and other high economic impacted areas where there's need for symmetrical speeds of upto 100mbps. This would require the use of wider bandwidth at 30MHz which would use up the POTs portion as well turning copper cabling in buildings ONLY for the sole purpose of pure DATA.

2nd: (17a Profile) Fiber to the cabinet(FTTC) which is used in UK, Germany, NZ and many other countries to bring fiber nearer to subscribers. Offers assymetrical speeds of upto 50mbps but slower uploads.

3rd: (8a or 17a Profiles) Exchange based DSLAMs in replacement of existing ADSL2+/ADSL2 equipments to provide better services over the same distances below 2km. At ditances of over 1.2-1.5km speeds of upto 20mbps is still possible.

Just spoke with the Unifi installers, which installed in my company premise, last time they said Penang may have after Aug-Sept.
