Actually the main function of a hood is to reduce flare..... or rather, stray light from entering the lense

Well yes, it does protect the front element but the main purpose of a hood is to block unwanted lights.

In fact you know what? Go ahead and buy a hood that looked big enough for you.
And I bet you right after you shoot once you will regret buying it.

Juz get a third party hood~
probably cost u rm30 plus minus~ smile.gif

and the hood u looking for is a 58mm diameter hood since u using 18-55 smile.gif

Don't bother with the 18-55 IS's hood. It's so shallow, its useless. I use to have one last time, so I know. laugh.gif
