Tried, I'm using the latest 10.8 right now, the fan sped are still 30%.
I'm thinking something isn't compatible with GPU-Z or sort..Hmm..

Anyway, just a question. Say you are playing some games, your CPU will be at 1.7ghz right? If you are using 740QM.
*
Certain games utilize the CPU more than others. Resident Evil 5 for example is one which utilizes the new Core i7 Procs well. And my understanding is that games like Starcraft 2 with lots of individual units also untilize the i7 more than usual.....

Yeah well I understand that, so am I correct with the 1.7ghz part? (When utilizing all 4 cores, the clock will be only at 1.7ghz)
Now I understand why the XM is so goddamned expensive sweat.gif

1.7Ghz sounds slow, if the application or game like julchin mention can utilise all thread, it will be come advantages compare to other proccessor which have 4 thread or 4 cores with 4 thread^^

star craft 2 is not utilising hyperthreading. so u wont gain any performance. core i7 720/740 QM will run SC2 at 2.4ghz(2Cores utilize)

I would think its either that it runs on stock or a bit higher. Resident Evil 5 runs hyperthreading though...

Exactly. I think we have been talking about this before in AW Thread 3 done by findingScreemo. I remember just receiving my unit and Putochip as well as Mr. Docter were the ones clarifying all these. The problem is utilisation of hyperthreading by the games. Besides RE5, I'm not sure what other games do this.

This is interesting info. Non Utilisation of HT but the core speed is higher than stock..

Because Turbo Boost is not only limited to overclocking one core, but it can be done to 2 cores as well....

For example?
Any formula/calculation shows how exactly turbo boost work to distribute the multiplier accordingly?

For i7 720QM, its 1/1/6/9 with base multiplier 12x means it will have multiplier 12x for 4 and 3 cores, 18x for 2 cores and 21x for 1 cores...
since SC2 only use 2 cores, it will run 18x 133MHz = 2.4GHz...

as for i7 840QM, its 2/2/8/10 with base 14x and i7 940XM, its 2/2/8/9 with base 16x....

thx lee, im also lee as well. haha. exactly what lee had clarify about the clock.
besides RE5, Batman Arkhrum also HT support game.
but in some games, while it support 2 Cores, u have HT, HT might decrease the performance, like crysis, HT and not HT have different, i think is around 10% like this

The extra multiplier for 4cores/3cores/2cores/1cores
In i7 720QM 2 cores case, base is 12 + 6 = 18 x 133MHz = 2.4GHz...

Really? I mean..lol 2.5ghz vs 2.9ghz, 400mhz oughta makes some difference.
Heh guess If i wanted to increase something, it'd be the graphic card.
