QUOTE(acidkill @ May 31 2010, 02:18 PM) I bought the rm7999 package. Welcome to the club.Intel® Core i7-720QM Processor (1.60GHz, 6MB Cache) 6GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM (1 x 2GB + 1 x 4GB) ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB GDDR5 Im not using the M17x but I'm running the ATI 5870 in my M15x so we can compare notes. Here's a short comparison between the GTX 260M and the ATI 5870. Will have to reinstall NVidia Physx as certain games like METRO 2033 and programs like 3DMarksVantage will prompt for Physxloader.dll to be present before it will work. I had mine taken out due to preparations to install my 5870. From initial testings, the 5870 has significant improvements over the 260M in games like Battelfield Bad Company 2. Will update more benchmarks and 3dmarks after I've gotten all the drivers sorted. Also, my aliensense has now ceased to detect my face nor even start during startup which is an issue I have to resolve. But temps for the 5870 is in its 70s so I'm keeping my fingers crossed my Artic Cooling paste is doing its job..... RESIDENT EVIL 5( 1920X1080, 4XAA, All settings Max, VSync Off) GTX 260M 1GB DDR3 ATI 5870 1GB DDR5 |

QUOTE(Mr.Docter @ Jun 1 2010, 08:05 PM) wow... i am impressed! Yes it not supposed to affect. But I worry I might have deleted something while cleaning the registry but I checked before I proceeded. And I haven't forgotten the vacuum pic which I will upload here. From now on its monitoring the temps and getting physx installed and of course, uploading the pics here....it seems everything goes quite well. regarding Aliensense, have you check your Alienware Command Center? its not a direct complication from changing GPU, i believe. As for the 980xm, I don't think I will want to slap it on considering it might cost RM4K or more which I think I'd rather buy a new future M17x which comes with it and the GTX 480M... |

In terms of aesthetics, my M15x is build pretty solidly and even after opening and closing the housing many times, it all still clicks into place. The only thing I have issues with is the lousy screws which easily gets warped or the grooves out of shape once screwed one too many times but its only a hindrance if you're the type that likes to open the housing to apply paste or clean the vents etc......

When I was using the GTX 260M with or without a cooler, taking my room temperature to be about 27celcius, I've never gotten above 92c. When my original GTX Gave a reading of 92c, I knew something wasn't right and I called DELL to come check. They replaced my 260M with a new one and even brought additional thermal pads. After that, playing the same way gave me temperatures not exceeding 78 - 80c. And even with my overclocking, the max it went was 82 - 83c. My suggestion is to call DELL and ask their engineers to come over to check. Touching 100c is too high and might melt some components....

QUOTE(ff8ong @ Jun 7 2010, 08:47 PM) Went to my friend house yesterday for my little m11x to meet his brother. He just bought it last week. Yeap, size difference is HUGE. M15x as it is will be much bigger than the M11x. BTW, If you're friend isn't a member here, tell him to drop by the MOTHERSHIP The size gap is huge. |

QUOTE(natiayS @ Jun 9 2010, 02:04 AM) my m15x will arrive tomorrow, now hard to sleep edi, hehehe Well welcome to the club. Which specs did you get btw?now donno where to put my lenovo ideapad Y550P @Doc:Just benched the 5870 with the 3DMarks Vantage with all drivers in place and working well. Scored 10039(GPU 9484, CPU 12180 no Physx) which shows that the ATI Card is pretty good at OC'ing. I can't imagine the score of the M17x with CF 5870 and 920XM though we don't have anyone here with that configuration. I think the highest for the M17x with the 5870 CF is 820QM Right? |

QUOTE(nitevision92 @ Jun 9 2010, 02:31 PM) I'm praying hard for that NOT to happen. Otherwise gotta sell this baby. That is highly unlikely. I don't think they wanna eat into M15x territory. The only reason to sell the M15x is when a new one comes out with maybe a single GTX 480M as opposed to a newer M17x with a SLi enabled 480M though all these are just dreams/daydreams I keep getting..... Edit: I'm really glad Dell engineers don't f*ck with the laws of thermal physics. ![]() Hairulez... welcome to the family. Hope you can benchmark ur system. Would love to see your scores on 3DMarksVantage This post has been edited by julchin_09: Jun 9 2010, 03:33 PM |

I think NVidia cards will be equipped in higher end PCs. With the advent of the OPTIMUS and Physx, they can't go wrong with their GPUs. After using the GTX 260M , My bet is that NVidia will still dominate the market not to mention, to feature as a standard in every game. You gotta have Physx for high end gaming and to not sound like a fanboy, I'm using ATI Now.....
Wait till we get the 2GB GTX 480M on our Flagship models. I think its safe to say that a single card carrying 2GB running on 100W is better than 2 ATI's running on CF requiring 2X65W right? |

QUOTE(chowdm @ Jun 10 2010, 12:42 PM) Dear all, i m interested on alienware m11x....just now i was doing some customization for m11x with the lowest spec....surprisingly if i customize the RM3699 spec to RM4199 (changed processor from i3 to i5, ram to 4GB and HDD to 500GB), the final price is RM4191, vs RM4199 (middle spec of m11x), it saved RM8..... Nope, we all customize and try every possible combination to get our money's worth. You might wanna call the Sales Assistant and see what they quote for u cos the price might be cheaper than customizing online... |

QUOTE(Mr.Docter @ Jun 11 2010, 02:48 AM) its ATi HD 5870. Haven't bro. I had an eventfull weekend previously as I travelled to East Coast for a few days then my Modem got struck by lightning. So just got them settled and pics transfered. Managed to get the card and all drivers working so will start working on the pic by pic steps and suggestions but its gonna take a while. I'm probably gonna be busy for the next few days seeing that its already the 11th of June and u know whats going on right? around 1.5k from eBay/Amazon if imma not mistaken. but note that quite a hassle to upgrade a GPU especially if this is your first time. you can PM Julchin_09 for more details. i think he'll happy to help you with that matter @Julchin_09 : had you documented every step of your upgrading process? if yes, i wanna put that in the front pages @ Achieves Section later |

QUOTE(Mr.Docter @ Jun 11 2010, 06:19 AM) Phew. Err... so far just tried METRO 2033 in DX11 Mode which added much more details to texture and facial expressions. My other games like BFBC2 and BioShock 2 I don't see DX 11 Options so I just max out the current settings and AA.QUOTE(EvilDevil118 @ Jun 11 2010, 01:18 PM) The outlook I am not sure but vbios wise Asus haven't issue a new version yet. Sager, Msi already got fix for the power saving mode instead of locking the memory to 1000 and the gpu goin down to only 500. Some have tried manually editing their vbios with rbedit and manage to get ati overdrive and most important is less gsob or bsod or any od. Some report the memory voltage and gpu voltage is too low while others mention it's a memory batch problem. The HD 5780M is actually similiar to the previous desktop 5770 and 5870 series even the problems from desktop applies to the mobile. Reports mention it's a batch problem while others mention it's a vbios. My G73JH-A2 had no problem with the stock drivers but once I upgrade to the 10.5 random gsod occurs. It seems like if I just boot up the laptop and run games it will lock up but if I slowly surf web, let the laptop warm up then run games the problem won't occur. Thank god I haven't gotten any problems with the stock card. Only had an occurence when I OC'ed the card a bit higher than I should have but that was all. I will monitor this as I am using the 10.5 Catalyst drivers. I might revert back to 10.3 thou....Rumours is the gpu needs to warm up b4 goin into high performance mode. QUOTE(razei @ Jun 11 2010, 07:03 PM) Nice. Finally a 5870 CF Configuration to compare with. The score is almost similar to Doc's vantage and he's running on the QUadCore system. There's lotsa potential to boost up your SCORE and your CPU score could be better even at stock. |

Cos its something of an advantage to NVidia. But turning Physx on increases the CPU Scores like crazy in vantage. IIRC, My CPU scores with the i7 820QM was about 12-13k without Physx but about 20k with it dramatically increasing the overall 3dmArks Vantage scores.... turning off Physx levels the playing field and determines pure performance of the GPU Chip thats why they turn it off when doing benchmarks.....QUOTE(daimo raff @ Jun 13 2010, 11:59 AM) just open up my m17x boxes..
