1. Brand : Prefers Dell or HP
2. Budget : Max 4k gua? But prefer below 3.5k
3. Specs : i5 at least, with decent GPU
4. Size : Prefer below 2k+ as its a girl user. 14" screen would be better
5. Special Req : Can handle Adobe Photoshop and Dreamweaver CS5, minor to medium gaming needs. Speedy laptop with durability since travelling is quite a norm. Prefers $$ = Specs/Performance ratio. Overpriced piece of laptop is seriously not preferred.

Options in mind : Mx11, MacBook, Dell Studio 15, Or maybe more.

Please enlighten me in this search XD

14 inch standard = 2.4kg
13 inch standard = 1.8kg

i guess....for the brand u choose, ur desire weight + performance only hp envy 14, dell latitude 13 incher and adamo where this 3 cost way above ur budget.

for laptops below 2kg with i5 and decent GPU. only singapore acer 3820gt, vaio Z and.......hp envy 14. i think*

3820gt cost rm4k, vaio Z 6k, hp envy 14 about 5k also i think...

i think nearest to you now is....as you are a girl user, i think 3820gt will suite u best. long battery life, light, powerful enuf. but down part is u need to bring from singapore and maybe..................u dun like acer.

hm, there are ppl like putochip (i think putochip is one of them) that can get a discounted price because they buy alot of dell products. Check out garage sales, their treads are there.

lol overprice laptops, then erm... Mx11 is using a downclocked CPU leh.... TB up to 1.83GHz iirc.... that for the 4k i5 option....
might not want to use mx11 for Photoshop... (can handle, even a AMD sempron 2800 can handle.... just slow...)

below 2kg, option is 3820TG... but need carry external hdd, which will use up one USB port... (but its still below 2kg, i got it for my friend also) The one i got is the one in singapore (bought for around 1.3k SGD), so it comes with 3 year international warranty, you have to check in malaysia... (i think lee said some shops do 3 year warranty too)

HP Envy 14 is 2.5KG, even heavier than Envy 15 sweat.gif

14'' and below 2KG is Lenovo U460 (1.8KG, no optical drive), but only got nVidia 305M...
The MBP13 is 2KG even though its 13''
As for now, value for money:spec is Asus A42Jv....

DoubleU, not to carry external hdd, but external optical drive laugh.gif

2. Budget :Less than 2k
3. Specs : Not really my concern
4. Size : Any inch will do
5. Special Req : Able to do assignments, video conferencing and a little low end gaming ( Counter Strike). Must have CD reader. Notebook life must last at least 4 years.

owh dear....2.5kg....kinda screwed up his brothers name -___- 15 inch i7 + monster GPU

anyway chiahau, other than acer 3820gt, i think u need to sacrifice abit only can get a laptop. either more money or less spec. considering u need a really small device. smaller device with greater power always result in increase of price.

hello am intersted in buying a 14 gaming laptop with good battery life but a bit confused about optimus/ati switchable technology.

is optimus solution superiour to ati solution? ie can ati switchable technology use updated graphics card drivers or are they specific to the laptop?

which of the laptops below use these technologies , i understand the asus a42ja and jv does not use these technologiesand has average battery life? Does the N43JQ use optimus?

Asus A42Ja, i7 740QM + ATi HD5730@RM3599
Asus N43Jq, i7 740QM + nVidia GT425M@RM3999
Lenovo Y460, i5 460M + nVidia GT425M@RM2999
Asus A42Jv, i5 450M + nVidia GT335M@RM2599
Acer 4820TG, i5 460M + ATi HD5650@RM2599...

i asssume for the best power/battery the y460 and 4820tg are the best?
thanks

Anything using the i7 740QM won't have the switchable GPU...
For now, Optimus advantage is no flickering screen when doing switching while ATi does, but Optimus have some problem with games especially concerning with punkbuster, etc...

Best power/battery life is 4820TG...
Y460 is using normal capacity battery, so nothing much...
A42Jv does have Optimus...

thanks lee_what

and the 425m is currently slower than 5650 but has potential to be faster as drivers mature, correct?
