don't think it'll be same price with Legend la

Legend is like top of the line while Wildfire is entry level

If same price with Legend, no need to introduce Wildfire lo wink.gif

i got a test unit this weekend... when i try update on facebook. it mentione htc sense... so I not sure is this the wildlife you guys mentioned about..

short review

pro
small
light
handy
feature exactly like desire... can do almost everything a desire can...
can play fb mafia wars... but hard to tab(too small)... other game like cafeworld, restaurant city can load but can run the flash.. maybe the cache are too low...t

cons
slightly slow than desire in term of response
touch screen are less responsive... somtime need to tab twice..
screen is too small to browse website... not good if you heavy browser...
for heavy user, the batt can last only 1 full day...

download few app from market, not too responsive to same game.. compare i play with it on milestone previously...

summary, a good entry android phone, but if really android newbies might find it hard to maneuver around the touch screen... so it is good for android expert who want an entry level phone...

hope i review the correct model tongue.gif

new here.

Comparison between HTC Wildfire and HTC Tattoo!!
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPho...7&idPhone2=2932
A great winning spec here!
With standard 2.1 Eclair and bigger screen but still QVGA..
Support up to 32GB, 5MP with flash but same processor..
Bigger RAM 384MB vs 256MB..
What a replacement! Brilliant HTC! rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

as i mentioned above lo... i had better experience with desire or milestone...maybe because the reso is small, everything seem cramp together... not so easy to touch...

beside, i think this phone will be wonderful if it have a sliding qwerty keyboard like palm pre...

pinch zoom is just ok, desire pinch zoom are the smoothest among all..

anyway, i'm a keyboard(nokia e71) user, my last touch screen phone was a HP navigator(suck big time)... so i may not be the best person to comment...

But i would say this phone is not a must have lo...

That's normal.. Sometimes there's someone whose stereotype which only know how to use one type of phone..
But, others maybe can adapt to many type one are lucky because at least they have choices more to try out different kind of phone with different feeling.. nod.gif nod.gif

I know what you mean. I'm a keypad user... tested nokia5800 when it was launch, not used to touch screen then. tried my bro in-law's iphone, still not used to it.

not sure if will get use to touch screen phones.... but tempted la..

S$498 is about Rm 1150-1200, not very expensive cause is retail price. Think can get at S$420-450 from other handphone shop, if this sat i free, then can go take a look, laugh.gif

With android we swype! not type! hahahaha. Well then it is a real bargain! anyone wanna do a COD with the guy selling RM1050? if he is really selling at that price I'll pay cash and get the phone to test it out. Had wanted to get an android for quite sometime. With such a price and 2 years warranty no doubt it is a great bargain.

well im up for it if the price can be reduced another 150 or 200.

screen is the same as legend (3.2 inch) but much more wider as the review say so maybe more comfortable to type, but the processor is not powerful as legend that what it menat by cant type as fast as legend sweat.gif

i wish i could test the phone before buying, but he say dont have demo phone, know where can test2?

Better go to a shop that has a demo set and play with it first before deciding.. I won't trust 100% the words from reviewers.. they may be running tonnes of widgets and/or background apps, that's why slow..

yes the best way is to play kaw2 with demo set, maybe the reviewer has a high standard cause they got/play with high end gadget always, but in reality the phone standard alredy suit what you need. f

for me, a heavy smser/wifer, when it write slow sms/unresponsive keyboard, it already a off for me. but if you are casual, just want a wifi phone for social networking, then this phone is great,

QUOTE(silentser @ Jul 9 2010, 12:50 PM)
yes the best way is to play kaw2 with demo set, maybe the reviewer has a high standard cause they got/play with high end gadget always, but in reality the phone standard alredy suit what you need. f

for me, a heavy smser/wifer, when it write slow sms/unresponsive keyboard, it already a off for me. but if you are casual, just want a wifi phone for social networking, then this phone is great,

xD me~ bought it but haven't really use it yet! For a normal user, I really think wildfire worth the money la~ typing is responsive lo~ camera is, well, don't expect much like what being reviewed. There are some small lagging problems la, but its just very minor, like opening the gallery of photos.

One thing though, not sure is just this wildfire, it seems to have a bit issue connecting to some wireless router. Will further update after I further experiment with it bah~

Btw, bought it from pdaexpert in sunway~

i also accidentally bought this phone.. black color..

hmm so far quite ok. while the resolution and screen is like earth and heaven when comparing it vs my galaxy S, i still find the screen is not as bad as stated by some reviews..

the speaker is loud, but not really comfortable for music / mp3 playback.

in terms of fun, i have no feeling anymore because i've own so many android phones in the last 7 months.. but so far i guess i will like the phone because of its size that will be easy for my pocket..

hmm.I was thinking of getting this just to replace my Touch Pro and Touch Pro 2.But If I can sell both phones and get Desire,it's better to leap ahead. But I like the wildfire because it's cheap and almost similar to Desire(Camera Facebook Twitter and Youtube is my priority). Not much.

first time using android so a bit noob when using it...btw the screen colour doesn't look like 16m colour..or am i wrong? hmm.gif

QUOTE(irenic @ Jul 12 2010, 12:58 AM)
i also accidentally bought this phone.. black color..

hmm so far quite ok. while the resolution and screen is like earth and heaven when comparing it vs my galaxy S, i still find the screen is not as bad as stated by some reviews..

the speaker is loud, but not really comfortable for music / mp3 playback.

in terms of fun, i have no feeling anymore because i've own so many android phones in the last 7 months.. but so far i guess i will like the phone because of its size that will be easy for my pocket..
*
the wildfire is good IMHO..need to wait the latest froyo (ver 2.2), might be lot smoother i guess

Yea, for this i know. I think 2.1 is slightly lag cause saw some review on samsung spica, actually run 1.5, after upgrade to 2.1 then lag on some application. So mean upgrade firmware not related with processor?

Well, did some research on the web just now and here are some findings:-

Pros:
1. Price is CHEAP !! (yup, this is one hell of an attraction to people out there)
2. Can be upgraded to Froyo (i think its already confirm)
3. The overall phone size is more "user friendly" (well, some say this depends on individual)
4. Larger ROM (not so sure bout this)

Cons:
1. Lousy screen resolution. (well, some say this also depends on individual)
2. Slower processor, 528MHz only.
3. Poor speaker/sound quality.
4. MIGHT not support certain android app due to the low resolution. (this one not so sure)
5. Camera quality not so good, although its 5MP (this one not sure)

So anyone can verify or anything to add to the list ? tongue.gif

Hi xproc,

For me, it really value for money. Currently I own Omnia II. Wildfire is faster. It must because of Android. However there are lags here and there but not up to annoying level like WinMo. It still good for normal use.

Display is good enough for normal use. Camera also good. The picture look a bit blur on phone display, but look great when transferred to pc. All the apps is same as other Androids.

The email and friend stream really nice. Installed brut google navigation, it follow my car almost instantaneous. Much much better than Garmin Mobile XT on my Omnia II.

Battery live almost 1 day. Browsing internet through wifi for few hours. Automatic sync facebook and email every hour. And GPS navigation (+ data since I am testing brut google navigation) about 2 hours.

Didn't try any games since this phone is for my wife. Plus I didn't expect it to run high end games. For that I will get Samsung Galaxy S/ Bigger screen and faster GPU. Cannot wait this Saturday to collect my SGS drool.gif

i try out the wildfire at htc roadshow midvalley just now.

i can confirm the phone in messaging is for me, lag, but its not the keyboard that is lag, the display of the msg that is lag, i type as fast as a heavy texter can (which i am one) and i notice that the display couldnt catch up to what i am writing, but the gap is not long, about 2 or 1.5 second only.

and the phone also turn not responding for a moment when my gf want to try it out, the staff also like "eh.. wait2" *tap2* for a moment then all ok.

Any more reviews from those who bought ?
So far from the internet reviews, it seem like :-

Pros
1. Value for money
2. Features of HTC Desire/Legend
3. Looks good
4. 5MP Camera with LED Flash
5. Great GPS

Cons
1. 1 day battery life
2. Display 240x320 does not support some apps
3. Screen TFT
4. Slight lag
5. Pic quality - not that great esp for outdoors.

Also would like to know what are the competing Android product from other brands ?

Hmm.....i saw some review on internet about the poor camera on wildfire.

It says the pic quality isn't that bad, it just bcoz we snap it and view it under the TFT low resolution screen. That's why we think the pic sucks.

If u transfer the pic and view it using pc, the quality is just like normal 5Mp pic.

Can anyone confirm this?

If you're choosing a Maxis plan, I see no reason why you want to get this phone for RM100 difference.

Nevertheless, I feel this is a great entry level Android.

in actual fact it is not that obvious... i just have a touch on both desire and wildfire... both also nice but the wildfire downside would be the application support side... asked the sale they said some of the software for desire and legend might not be able to fill up the screens...

if you are happy enough with android basic function i would say yes you should get it... but if you want to have lots of apps and customization i would say no...

there might ppl not agree with me, but wildfire cannot fully support all the apps like desire and galaxy or others middle range android which has the 480X320 screen resolution... as i asked the guys yesterday also he answer me frankly, there might be distortion or partial screen black for some apps running on wildfire...then there are rumors that it will only support until Froyo Version 2.2 OS only as the limitation on the screen resolution might not supported by Gingerbread V3.0 (or some say V2.3) OS... so u must ask yourself if there is not future OS updates supported or officially by HTC would you mind or not...

i'm in the same situation wif some of you as i wanna get a smartphone but is Wildfire is enough for me, or should i get Iphone as i consider it is around the price of wildfire after contract with maxis... of course desire is also in my mind as maxis offer RM1500 with contract too...

but i heard from some feedback from ppl that are using iphone and tried android for a few weeks b4... their verdict/summary is Iphone if you are going for OS experience and good for web surfing... but android offer you more customization on the OS and a lot of apps is free... that is also argument but the quality of the free apps support by android, but i'm not sure compare to the paid apps that apple offer, as we know the quality of the apple apps is quite good....

so u have to judge your own...
in my case i'm more towards Iphone but will thinking which should be the right one... Wildfire, Iphone & Desire...

i'm not sure as i ask them about the GPS things i'm hold the desire.... haha wildfire feel nice to hold but i'm think about the apps support only...
desire is a lil too big for us (if you are more than 5"10 has a bigger palm it will not then) but it's OS is more responsive than wildfire and do not have any problem with apps support up to now... and desire support future OS upgrade after Froyo2.2 but for wildfire HTC have not give a clear indication yet...

In terms of app support, for sure there are some apps that will not be supported.. (i have seen a game that says HTC Tattoo not supported so I think the same goes for wildfire)

But how many apps not supported and what apps not supported, so far I have not seen any statistics about it.. I guess mainly on games..

So unless u can give us some data.. I won't call the app support as a deal-breaker yet..

All below confirmed can run by a user in xda forums:

I would say Wildfire is a big (if not huge) upgrade to Tattoo

Wildfire 3.2" Capacitive 16M Multi-touch TFT > Tattoo 2.8" Resistive 65k TFT
Wildfire 384MB RAM > Tattoo 256MB RAM
Wildfire 5mp Autofocus cam > 3.15mp cam

well no data as there isn't much user yet but the rumors that it will not support upgrade any OS upgrade after Froyo bothering me a lil... the xda data is just very lil only compare to <30k apps around only that tenth confirm running is a lost... well i confirm with the guy at the booth already there is some apps cannot support but they did not confirm how many...

and the upgrade is small la... if better resolution LCD spec i call it big then... that is my point of view... for the cam even u give me 3mp with AF is ok already...

*maybe you can refer to here... user said there is a quite a numbers of apps that is missing from their bigger siblings...

i think with froyo it is better, as desire they rooted into froyo it speed is just better than stock... but again the downside of wildfire is the screen resolution, it makes wildfire lack of apps support... yea some ppl might just say where is the data, come on but that is the case similar with Ndrive and some others apps with good review... according to quite some numbers of owner the higher rating apps in wildfire big bro is missing from it's market place because HTC removed those whom are not certified to run smoothly on the low resolution screen...
so u need to root it to get into the full market place where after u root it u might void ur warranty...
i'm quite happy where i almost make a decision to buy wildfire but the apps keep me away until now...
again the choice is yours, whether the lack of certified apps (that runs smooth on wildfire) will bothers u...

@michael9413: Why do you mention Maxis all the time... that price is tied with a contract isn't it ? And the cheapest would be Value Plus 50 RM50 + data plan.... at the end of the day quite expensive already if you don't use that much

well i said iphone plan now is quite cheap compare to android, BTW i don mind about the commitment as my calls is paid by my company so i just fork out the $$$ for my data plan only haha... my normal bills for voice will be around 600 minutes++ not including overseas call to SG & my family calls...
if u sign contract maxis can be consider cheap already, digi u need smart plan which u pay RM68 for a month and if ur usage is between RM100~199 then u get 25% or RM200++ then free... the price for the phone is almost the same woh that is for legend only but desire maxis u canget RM1500 but digi us need to pay normal amount and they rebate RM20/month for u for 2 yrs if you stay there... which comes around RM480 minus the RM2199 is about RM1700++...
for iphone it is almost the same but i get more wireless broadband quota given by digi compare to maxis and also not additional charges if you over quota...
i prefer to take maxis because of 1 thing, the coverage of 3G is much more better than digi, and of course the network also... but digi also not bad but the 3G coverage is not that good then of course that will hamper the wireless broadband purpose if the coverage is not good enough...

that is what i am thinking and i'm using maxis all the while, but thinking whether wanna change to digi or not when i wanna get my new phone smile.gif

RM1199 call good deal??? haha that is RRP just with a 8GB memory card la... there is some ppl selling around RM1100 in LYN and memory card 8G is around RM90 same lo... survey around b4 u say cheap, but what they give you is the lucky draw for more stuff nia... what kanzakicyn gotten might be more convincing as at fair or show u should be more discount or freebies... 8GB memory card is nothing to shout about...

if you did ur survey u will know all the listed price at the fair/show is RRP (Recommended Retail Price) not discounted price so what for u get it there and then, but not later when u notice there is quite a numbers of application that ur phone cannot support...

that is my opinion, you might not agree but what i see there is wildfire had a big setback to me as the apps support is not as good as desire or even legend or hero... but i might still get it after i know which is the actual good apps that it might missed...

well i just surveyed and one shop agreed to give me a good price with 4G memory card plus trade in my old SE phone..

Another shop (that didnt deal HTC phone) actually told me
'HTC phone using Windows OS which is really not user-friendly'

can someone pls comment on that? is this true?
*
Since HTC introduces the HTC Sense on its phones, i can tell you that their phones are very user friendly comapred to other makes like samsung, nokia. I had tried HTC Sense on my fren desire, it's really outstanding comapred to my Omnia 2 and E63, especially samsung touch wiz, i hate it most, very slow interface.

In term of software support, i think HTC is much better than Samsung because you will always get an update in time. But if compared camera and sound quality, still Samsung better, HTC not on par yet.

haha thx for the fast reply
i too tot he is so naive to comment 'windows OS' without dealing with it in the first place

so pls assure if me i get a wildfire it will be relatively for me to use?
My usage is mostly for photo taking & wifi surfing.. and hopefully some game apps
*
wildfire is just ok for that. For better experiance, go for desire or galaxy s. For browsing, bigger screen is better. For gaming, higher cpu and gpu is better. However, wildfire is really value for money. Really good for people who just want to try android or normal stuff.

Definitely not. Swype is still in beta mode and have not launch direct sale yet, their website says they r now understaff. What they r doing now is working with the phone manufactures like samsung to have swype factory installed into each different models as the extensive testing of the software require lots of manhours which Swype is now using the manufacturer's staff to fine tune their product. Swype is still new, given time I think every android phone later will have Swype pre-installed and become the standard keyboard for all phones.

lol.. the author of LauncherPro already mentioned this in the LauncherPro webpage ler.. I quote for you la.. sweat.gif

QUOTE
One of the features I get requested the most is to support HTC Sense widgets. It seems everyone wants them. Because of the way these widgets are built into the HTC Sense launcher itself, this is simply not possible. And since not every Android user has a phone with HTC Sense, these widgets are not even available to all users.

Finally I got my hands on Wildfire. Even though its only QVGA, it seems it is much readable than my previous Touch Viva.

Occasionally I palm would accidentally touches the home button, which is quite annoying.

One thing I like about Android OS is when the APN is off, it STAY OFF.

ACV comic reader is awesome.

The media really, really, really loves to write about Apple and the iPhone these days. It reminds me of Google in 2004, when the media fell in love with the concept of search.

Besides the antennae story, which I find hopelessly over reported, the latest iPhone rhapsody has been how many iPhone 4s Apple has sold - apparently, 3 million as of last Friday. Friday was July 16th. The iPhone 4 launched on June 24, so that'd be 23 days to reach the 3 million mark.

3 million phones in 23 days - that's a pretty strong clip, the fastest sales of an Apple phone to date, Mashable reports. If I do the math, that's more than 130,000 phones a day.

But did anyone in the press notice Google's little announcement, the day before Apple launched its iPhone 4? This one? The one where Google said, and I quote:

"Every day 160,000 Android-powered devices are activated -- that’s nearly two devices every second."

Yep, that'd be 30K MORE phones a day than Apple. And my guess is that Android's pace is accelerating, while the iPhone 4 is probably sliding downward, given how many folks bought it at launch (Mashable reports that 1.7 million were sold in first three days, so 1.3 million the next 20 days). In fact, if you do THAT math, and divide 1.3 million by 20 days, you get 65,000 iPhone 4s sold each day, which is nearly 100,000 less, PER DAY, than Android phones.

Is that story anywhere in the press? Not that I see.

As far as I can tell, Android-based phones will far outnumber any other smart phone by year's end. Apple, meet your new Windows. It's name is Android.

Open back the browser. Then use back instead of home key. The other option is to use Advance Task Killer.

i think the diff between ori and ap set here is just the warranty itself. Original SIS set got 2 years warranty and as for ap set is 1 year from the shop that sell to u.

Either u buy the ori or ap set, the phone is still the same. If u plan to root it later on, i think better get the ap set.

my alarm is back to normal again thanks..
advanced task killer closes running tasks which are not on the ignore list to clean up memory..

one thing, when I restart my. phone I get 200 plus free memory..now only 150 plus..o wonder why..might be the widgets running..

so far no pouch yet..

Added on July 29, 2010, 10:58 amforum.lowyat.net/topic/1490733
this pouch is interesting,
wildfire Dimensions - 106.8 x 60.4 x 12 mm
Desire Dimensions - 119 x 60 x 11.9 mm
so just compromise the length..

interesting.. wonder if anyone tried wildfire on that pouch before...
also it mentions 'Note: With a casing like Epik Snap-on, the Desire still can be slot into the pouch, but not as easy as without the casing. '
meaning without epik snap-on its loose fitting for desire? perhaps this way will work for wildfire?

I think it means the fitting is perfect for desire without the case..with the case still.can slot in but harder to do so..
for wildfire the thickness, width about the same..just the length..so should be just nice on wildfire but got some space vertically Lo...

never knew my sales thread was quoted here. laugh.gif

It is nice fit for naked Desire, not too tight, not too loose. So with Epik casing, it still can fit the Desire, just a bit tighter.

I just have few extra pieces left, first come first serve. I may not do a second batch becoz I am not a trader, not really have time. Items ETA next week. smile.gif

EDIT: Btw, to all the Wildfire user: Is the phone good and smooth running? I am thinking of either getting a Wildfire for my wife soon or wait until Evo/Ace GSM is out and then pass my current Desire to my wife. hmm.gif laugh.gif

But I can say for its price, it is a good entry Android phone for new user or budget constraint buyer. smile.gif

I am not really sure. But I doubt it cause by resolution. Recently I try to find fring on Market using Wildfire. It cannot find it. However Galaxy S able to find it. Then I went to fring website and download the apk and able to install on my Wildfire. So it able to install... it just not listed. Not sure why.

yes it is regarding the screen resolution... the apps is not recommended to put in 320x240 resolution screen... don trust us then go ask HTC...
actually most of the apps is written by the creators for 480X320 screen (minimum), but there is some where they converted to support lower resolution... so those whom not support lower resolution they do not make it available for wildfire to download lo... simple as that...

Devices with small-class screens, however, will only be shown apps which explicitly declare (via the AndroidManifest) that they will run properly on small screens. In our studies, we found that "squeezing" an app designed for a larger screen onto a smaller screen often produces a bad result. To prevent users with small screens from getting a bad impression of your app (and reviewing it negatively!), Android Market makes sure that they can't see it until you upload a new version that declares itself compatible.

This is more of a restriction in Market rather than the app itself.

Hi~ I guess one major issue with wildfire is that a lot of apps can't be view on marketplace huh? Well, I don't know if this helps or not, but I just discover this Fast Web Installer

Install this app and AppBrain app market and follow the instruction to sync AppBrain app to your browser and you are ready to view, install and maybe use those app that were missing in android app market!

Note: I think you should install AppBrain app 1st then only the Fast web installer. Ohya, to install the application you want, use internet browser to browse appbrain.com and install the application you want using the browser. You guys get it once you read the instruction, =P sorry for the messy post~

Enjoy

haiz, should i forgo my nokia 5800 xm for this?

my major concern is the resolution.

anyway, is the skyfire browser is free for the moment?

can play facebook game via the default browser? because i travels alot.

any one manage to overclock it use setcpu?

how good is the flash capability? flash lite? flash 9?

too much phone in comparison. samsung wave, htc legend, moto milestone? x10?

is there free voice navigation gps? or paid also ok.

there's alot android games but mostly they use high end androids phone to display, how is it compared to wildfire?

how's the camera.. focusing on video recording.

hopefully some one would enlighten me.

thanks, i'll appreciate it alots.

it depends what you want to use the phone for. gps already included in the phone under 'maps'. it is much better than the iphone gps, and extremely accurate. used it today and it could tell that my friend (the driver) was making a u-turn and the direction the car was facing!

I think u must be using 3G which of course expensive. Any chance of non 3G gps software usage like papago or syic. I would like to try but would like to hear from some existing users' experience.

I've been dreaming for this phone for days. I asked a online phone dealer about the pricing for the HTC Wildfire. They offered me RM1100 for original and RM950 or AP. But at the meantime they're running out of stock. I going after original. Anyone here knows any dealer at KL that sell HTC Wildfire around RM1100 pricing? White colour HTC Wildfire is so ATTRACTIVE!!! <3
