lol..tot u just want take the sun ma...but if u wan moving clouds..unless the wind really big.u need more than 30s lo...

but u dun reli need the filter..

increase f number..then u can lower shutter speed liao...ND doesn't really serve a big purpose here...IMnoobO...

actually u wrong, 30sc in daylight will get white screen there.. or when sunset time u will reli overexprosure shot.. thats why must use ND filter there..

30s daylight also might have chance to cook your sensor smile.gif
why don't try make time-lapse stop-motion video?? then you can see the sun set and the cloud move and the difference waves..

if u still need the landscape in picture, maybe u need not only 1 ND filter, but stack of them.. smile.gif (maybe a ND8 + GND + CPL)

long exposure does not destroy the sensor... !
That is a myth !!!

Added on May 18, 2010, 4:38 pmwhat you can do for sunset photography if do not have ND filters ... is to wait some more until it gets darker... then you can use long exposure... might get a more dramatic shots too... 8^)

oh ya. i thought long exposure with direct sunlight will ? (din mean other else, but with direct sunlight)
based on what i know (although it might be wrong)
because direct sunlight will heat up the sensor, and might melt the circuit behind it?
(same concept applied when u use a lens and focus the light below the paper, the paper get burned)

sorry for misleading..

QUOTE(lwliam @ May 18 2010, 03:52 PM)
why not just fully utilize the kit lens 1st before buying this buying that?

you dont even know what use is an ND is for, and yet you still want to buy it, then when photos come out all dark and underexposed, complain why cannot get what i see from those nice nice pic one.. be it 50mm or kit lens (which ALSO has 50mm range) its gonna work great if you know how to utilize it. all there is are settings. if u want brighter shots, prop it on a tripod and put a longer shutter, dont even have to use f/1.8 from the 50mm for portrait, stand further a bit use 70mm, and there u go, bokeh!
*
yes.. u should see what f8 on 200mm can do! (if ur subject is standing far from u, and the bg is also further away...) damn bokeh man! even more nicer than f1.8! (talking about SAL55200)
