With the recent price of gold, can one still purchase gold watches for around RM5K?

Other factors to consider:-

1. frequency of wearing ( evening / night )

2. Air-con / non air con conditions?

3. Mechanical , automatic or quartz?

ps Better get something mildly water proof in case one get's thrown in the pool !!

LOL... have gold plated what. today want to find 22K gold watch also hard!

how mild would u recommend here? pool i gather at least 100m. 30-50m may not survive. mechanical just need a simple service. quartz may have to change the entire movement. tongue.gif

Wow, RM18k is quite a premier for it.
It is really a NOS? It is strange that the watch can't sell and keep it at least for 3 years. Is it form a local AD?
*
It is an AD & he has an extensive range ( including the green glass Milgauss & Steel black face Daytona ) . I suspect he is a major purchaser of Rolex as it is rumored that Rolex will allocate a certain number of sport watches per order of regular range watches.

The COSC versions are slightly cheaper before discount but I agree that the one to get is the non-COSC version which is already very collectible .

Given the easy availability of information, these AD's know that they are sitting on an asset that will appreciate in time.

Came across a Steve McQueen Explorer ( the version with the orange second time zone arrow ) in immaculate condition with full box & papers in HK the other day. The prices asked were closed to what a mid range Patek retails for!!

Steel is preferable in the circumstances. Gold plated tends to wear off in this climate given the high humidity here.

really? my mum's gold pated watch didn't show any wear and she has been using it for ~10-15yrs.
what does high humidity got to go with chemical reaction of gold on steel plating? care to explain alittle here?
I still thought gold plating wear off because of daily wear and tear due to knocks.

If you wear a leather band outside in this humid weather there is a high chance of sweat which means the leather band will not last as long as it should unless you have another watch to rotate with.

It's nothing to do with aliens or UFO's the glowing green lights make the watch visible in dim or dark condiitions ( eg cinemas ) Best make sure he's not looking at his watch during your dates with him!!

lol..well, the green lights are the one make him attracted to the watch in the first place laugh.gif so does that mean the green light really does exist, but it is something like a glow-in-the-dark feature?

I have this Longine. RM8 - 9k retail about a year back. It's a 42mm. Nice understated classic watch. Besides the font which I dig, I loved the way the seconds hand moves - like a Rolex.

Too bad no date on the Milgauss, I saw the green crystal one and always wondered if there was a date version. I could be wrong, but I think most of the IWC watches are also magneticlly shielded - I know the Ingenier is, but the price range is different ! Somehow I think the Rolex will retain better value though.

How does the Rolex second hand move? It will the same for all mechanical watch.
Yes Rolex does hold better value than IWC, in general.

haha I guess I meant it's a continuous sweeping movement.

I'm a real newbie in these matters, but I think how fast the "seconds" hand moves is driven by how many oscillations per second. 25,000+ me thinks.
