haha I guess I meant it's a continuous sweeping movement.

I'm a real newbie in these matters, but I think how fast the "seconds" hand moves is driven by how many oscillations per second. 25,000+ me thinks.
*
All the mechanical watches (yes, even cheapo Seiko 5) are having sweeping second hand. Not how fast the second hand, is how smooth it is. This is all down to how much beat per hour of the movement.

Generally, the higher beat the smoother the second hand. FYI, Most of the ETA movement is having 28800 bph.

QUOTE
Frequency: Amplitude, in the case of mechanical watches refers to how many times an hour the watch goes tick for a given time period! It is often referred to as half-swings per hour or beats per hour (BPH). Thus a watch beating at an amplitude of 28,800 per hour ticks 8 times per second.

The theory being, the more bph, the greater the accuracy. However it also means that there is greater wear & tear too. I believe Zenith currently has the highest bph

really? my mum's gold pated watch didn't show any wear and she has been using it for ~10-15yrs.
what does high humidity got to go with chemical reaction of gold on steel plating? care to explain alittle here?
I still thought gold plating wear off because of daily wear and tear due to knocks.
http://www.thomasnet.com/articles/custom-m...g/plating-types
*
It depends how the plating is done & at how many microns. The older watches used rolled gold which is hardier but the new ones are plated to 2 to 3 microns . The salt from one's sweat causes corrosion if it is not clean off. Wear & Tear also contributes to this as well. However this can be remedied if you can find someone to redo the plating.

I would say go to h$ll to the AD for selling RM18k for non-COSC. I would glady get he COSC for RM15k or try my luck on pre-owned market.
No

Managed to beat him down to 16K thanks in part to the attractive young lady who accompanied me today. She is interested in the old stock men's Cellini Daneos pillow shaped mechanical watch. He may go down further if we make a joint purchase. Any info on the Cellini?

lol..well, the green lights are the one make him attracted to the watch in the first place  laugh.gif so does that mean the green light really does exist, but it is something like a glow-in-the-dark feature?
does anyone know the price range for this watch?
*
The green lights are a glow in the dark feature. Are you sure the lighting is not for you to check the time when the two of you are in a dark place? Better get one with red lights that flash if he cheats on you!!

Sorry not sure what prices they go for

True, higher beat contributes to more wear and tear.

So beau, are you getting the 14040M non-cosc? Not sure about Cellini, too dressy for me. haha

Tempting -Will check my other sources before reverting on the purchase. There are also other temptations that have recently come about from my sources. A limited run of B-Uhr with Phenix movement & a one off IWC made with a Jones movement. So many watches, so little money!!

The female I was with is interested in the old men's size Cellini.( She was wearing an Explorer 1) There seems to be a growing base of women buying & collecting high end mechanical pieces .

their system is having problem, it should be real-time.
there are 2 letter which was greeting from CW (signature from director perhaps?) and invoice, fibre cleaning cloth and a manual book. overall simple yet nice biggrin.gif
now still figure how to adjust the date and time seem a little bit faster in seconds

ETA2824 workhorse, no problem with that.
Single hand watch, hard to read correct time though. Can you tell me what exact time is it?

Like patryn said, read the 1st page.
Otherwise, just get the see through display back Seiko 5, less than RM200.

Hey guys. Hoping to find someone who's familiar-ish with the cost of servicing Tag autos.

My Tag Carrera (pic attached in spoiler below) has recently gone a little wonky, in that:-
1) it doesn't seem to keep power all that well anymore (power reserve down from 44 hours to under 12 hours, even lost a couple hours of time when sitting in winder once) and
2) the crown's rather difficult to pull out and winding is horrendously coarse

I took it to Tag's service centre last week and they quoted me RM1350 for an overhaul on the movement plus RM160 for a new crown, all in for a handsome sum of RM1510. A tad pricey for a watch which retails for a little under 10k.

I'm contemplating sending it to an external watchmaker for servicing (ie Watches of Switzerland, to name one), would anyone be able to advise on the cost and quality of such watchmakers?

Thanks smile.gif

How old is your Carrera?
Not my personal experience but heard good thing about the service from TSC and another watchsmith in Summit USJ. Perhaps you would bring it there to have a look. A standard Valjoux 7750 should be easy to service.

Pls allow me to share my recent finding abt service....
TSC in Amcorp Mall ( Mr Lee ) is a professional watch service centre, good patient to explain all the possible problems of the watch I send for quotation. ( Price is cheaper than Principle appointed service centre...Richemont Luxury said around RM1500, 6 months warranty smile.gif )
Mr Ng in Summit PJ is expert in OMEGA watches, for simple mechanical watch he should be capable to handle it. ( nice guy and quick service smile.gif )
Mr Thung from Ampang Point also "old bird" in service & trade 2nd hand watches. ( so far he charge the lowest rate around RM750, but I really dun know the quality yet..... hmm.gif )
Finally, go back to Richemont Luxury, the real professional the only officially appointed service agent for many Swiss made watches, like PIAGET, IWC, B&M, PANARAI, JL, V.Constantin, A.L&Sohne, MontBlanc, Cartier....etc ( can provides FOC full detail of the service needed with spare part break down one by one......may cost 30% more but they provide 1 year warranty biggrin.gif )

The choice is yours.........
Do share with me if you found a good service centre with reasonable price as I also got few watches that need services....

BTW.....If I want to sell off some of my collection ( Swiss Watches ) pls advice me where is the most suitable place to post...

TYVM.

winding coarse? how long did U own the watch.
if there are parts that req changing u may end up paying more th RM$1510.
Do Watches of Switzerland perform servicing? some AD don't do that, they just help U ship to service centre to get it done and charge u more for their middle man service.

I will check with TSC and get a quote. reputable watch maker wouldn't give U a quote immediately, they would have to open it and inspect it to give U a quote. then U have to be comfortable leaving your watch there.

@CK77 have U see est of cost done by TSC and another watchsmith in Summit USJ? Can share these info?

my local watchmarker here also give me 1 yr warranty on the job.
this week should be picking up my Atmos! took them a good mth to clean and regulate the thing
