I have a quartz Tag, and U do unscrew the crown (down-ward) and gently pull it out to adjust the hands and date.

First task is need to get the right parts for the right watch i.e. 5513 case, dial, hands etc

Hmm .. but i wonder the authenticity of yuki's parts  sweat.gif If you wear for your own and don't sell it later as 'genuine', that's find.

Not sure TSC would assemble the watch for you, but no harm trying. And to learn and do it ourselves, not that easy I think.

Try TSC Amcorp Mall.
*
Yuki adviced against doing it myself as a novice. He has all the parts for the watch with the exception of the movements which are currently unavailable.

Skped a friend who builds & restores watches as a hobby. It appears that there is a special device required to remove & re-seal the Oyster case unlike other watches. He is also of the view that this is not something a beginner should attempt ( unless he has deep pockets ) & suggested I practice my watch making on Chinese & Russian Mechanical versions before moving on to the better stuff.

It looks like TSC might be the only solution ( assuming Yuki is able to supply the movement.)

I would advice against that too, esp a novice.
regulating the movement is no fun.

Good Luck!

Submariner in the following models : 6538 0r 6536 which uses cal 1080 or 5508 or 5510. Still cheaper than buying the last version of the watch with no date dial ( US$4,000 to $5,000 on the pre-owned market . The original version with the extra large crown & no crown guard is commanding low 5 figures .

In the meantime , here's something I picked up on EBay for a ridiculously cheap price . Took out the leather strap & bought a few NATOs to accompany it which makes it more comfortable to wear.

wow those are real vintage, good luck on sourcing the parts. Yuki have all the parts?
For me, I prefer the military sub 5517.

Here, not bad looking the watch. More details of the watch please.

Yuki very very helpful. Currently has no movements ( ETA or otherwise ) available.

This watch is a "Eugene Meylan" re-issue of a watch Glycine made in the 1920's It's about 40 mm in diameter & has clear legible indexes. The movement is an ETA automatic.

Glycine, as you may be aware makes military & aviation watches. The original version of this watch was mechanical & had indexes that contained radioactive elements for easier night vision. Not good for one's health unfortunately.

The watch came with a garish colored leather strap which I exchanged for an original Glycine leather strap. The humid climate is not conducive to the wearing of leather straps on a day to day basis hence the NATO strap which is cheap & comfortable.

Would you have any pictures of the Rolex Sub you are referring to?

See my thread on this for details-

Don't feel the size is too big given the current trend for larger watches

I presumed you could source the ETA from Ofrei.
Don't have pictures of Mil Sub, but can easily get it from Google image though. OWC has a nice homage for mil sub.
Cal dial for DJ? Sorry mate can't help. But it would be interesting to see.

Neither-This was made from a stock of old IWC movements. The original dial had to be replaced as it contained radium 226 on the markers . It wasn't cheap but still cheaper than buying the original IWC version of the B-Uhr which goes for 5 figures . Wanted the mechanical version but was quoted a significantly higher sum than the auto version.

There's a number of these one man shops in Switzerland & Southern Germany that fabricates watches with old movements.

The original LACO version was 55 mm not very wearable to say the least.

Hello and welcome thumbup.gif

Not much comments on the above 4, all are good watches. Though I might think Stowa's quality is the best among them.
However, besides the other 3, you can't try before you purchase a Stowa here.
Morever, we Malaysian would not entitle to VAT waiver (that's only thing that put me off) and long waiting time. Someone here had mentioned that with opening an account with Fedex might solve the VAT issue.

Have you tried the other three?

whats your working budget? I can see it vary alot. like CK77 stated, Stowa quality and finish is the best. value for money I say the Mido, esp if U can get 30% off and bring it down to US$890 or perhaps lower. no love for Hamilton and Tissot for these model, might as well get a Stowa Antea its at EUR$312. Hamilton I am sure cases are build from far east, Mido I got a feeling its from there too. However you are getting a expensive movement in the watch. Stowa ETA 2824 on Antea is decorated with blue screws, Hamilton and Tissot U do not get any decoration. the back is open but it not as pleasing to look at compare to a Stowa.

1) its at EUR$880 (including VAT) or US$1130

2) retails at US$1270 b4 discount.

3) retails US$675 b4 discount

4) retails at US$525 b4 discount

Didn't know this Stowa MO is so expensive sweat.gif
For similar design with much lower cost, perhaps can try on Archimede DeckWatch.
Same movement as Stowa's, though is non-decorative. Selling for EUR425.
Germen made as well (some say is copycat of Stowa).
