can only place booking for 1.8? do 1.6 have a high spec? or is't just 1.8 with high spec?
wink.gif
I went over to the Hyundai showroom in PJ yesterday and was told that there's only the 1.6L and 1.8L models coming. No high spec or low spec. Tentative pricing for the 1.6L is RM 90K+ while the 1.8L is expected to be priced below RM 110K. No indications on the launch date though.

But ive started looking closely at the Hyundai Sonata since seeing the pics of the 2012 Camry Hybrid which was quite depressing. Does anybody know when the facelift Sonata will arrive?

Got a reply from SA saying 1.6 is RM10xk and 1.8 is RM11xk....Booking fee RM500
Cannot be la. It doesnt make sense. How could the difference between a 1.6L and a 1.8L be only about RM 10K?? If thats the case then everybody will go for the 1.8L la so no point bringing in the 1.6L. Tell your SA not to simply say things la.

As i said before, Hyundai PJ said that the 1.6L will be less than 100K while the 1.8L will be slightly below 110K.

Well the forte 1.6sx and 2.0sx is about 10k+ difference
That's probably because the price is already cheap. Getting a 2.0L for about RM 94K is a very good price.

QUOTE(gregy @ Aug 23 2011, 10:25 AM)
Actually the difference is 12k.

Forte SX 1.6 = 85,800
Forte SX 2.0 = 97,800 (up 14% from base price)
Another comparison, Honda Civic:

1.8S = 114,980
1.8S-L = 119,980 (up 4% from base price)
2.0S = 130,980 (up 14% from base price or 16k more)

I think it's more towards the percentage difference between base and high spec that matters more than the quantum of difference.

Based roughly on the above, it sounds about right when you said the new Avante is around 9x,000 (1.6) and 11x,000 (1.8). However, at those prices buyers will think long and hard (esp for the 1.8) cos the difference between this and the Civic base model is zilch; in fact, it will have a hard time facing off against the likes of the Civic and Altis at that price level. A Hyundai is not yet a Honda, as far as Malaysian buyers are concerned.
Yes i agree that the pricing is not competitive especially in Malaysia where ppl are more inclined to Jap models. Hyundai have to do what Kia has done with the Forte. They need to offer their cars with better specs and lower prices in order to fight the Japs.

bro, you are right.
i am one of the satisfy owner of Forte 2.0 6speed.
the performance is really damn good and the 6 speed gearbox is damn silky smooth thumbup.gif
i drove my gf brother civic 2.0 before and compared to Forte 2.0, i would say Forte is better in terms of engine performance, FC, and NVH. handling of Civic is a little better than forte.just my 2 cents smile.gif

thus, 98k with so much of features offered by Kia, i would say it really bang for every single buck u spend rclxm9.gif
so, dun waste your time to wait for the elantra already, go for Forte 2.0 tongue.gif
I think spec wise, both Elantra and Forte would be similar. But design wise, the Elantra is way better than Forte. The Forte although nice, looks too boxy while the Elantra has fluid sculptured lines. Rear legroom is also generous in the Elantra.

Just hope they dont kill it with some over the top pricing like what they did to the Sonata. Its really sad to see a great looking car like the Sonata suffer because of its high pricing. If it had been priced about 5-7K cheaper, im sure its sales would have been much better. Currently, compared to the Camry, Accord, Teana and Forte, the Sonata has the worst sales figures for the 1st 6 months of the year. Pity.

I believe only 1 is cigarette lighter port, others are single function power outlet. 2 isn't alot, Santa Fe has at least 3-4 . laugh.gif

Anyway, I may be reposting rumors but :

- Launching should be in November.
- In Korea it comes in either 1.6 or 1.8L, 6 speed AT with Shiftronic so naturally we'll be getting these engines as well, but there's also rumor spreading within that we might get 2.0 version as well, can't promise or confirm with you all on that.
- First batch is CBU and will be CKD onward. Parts are imported, difference is assembly location, orders and delivery will definitely be faster than CBUs like Sonata, Tucson if they're CKD.

HSDM will of course price it 'competitively' with our Japanese competitors. So you will either see a huge gap in pricing, or a car with smaller gap pricing, but choke full of accessory not found on Japanese's marques. The latter is more likely, as with the trend starting from Tucson and Sonata(Smaller price gap, more accessories).
Which branch are u from?

If not because of the bodykit la, TRD la, Sportivo la, sure mati katak d.

Actually, if not for Forte, more ppl would have bought Vios/City. Now, every month there are 500-600 *less* Vios/City being registered. Once the new Elantra is launched (zzzzzzzzzz........), there will be even less new Vios/City on the road.
Where u getting your facts from? In June 2011, 2519 units of Vios were sold. In July, 3015 units were sold. Total units sold from Jan-July 2011 is 16,816 units. Where is the drop? rclxub.gif

Many ppl said the Vios sales would drop drastically when the Forte was launched. So far for the first 7 months of this year, Forte only sold 3,470 units. Can't even beat the 'ugly' Toyota Altis. This proves that Forte did not pose a challenge for the Vios (possibly due to the fact that its different segment).

The Honda City sales are poor. Only 499 and 544 for the same months with total sales for the period at 7,802.

So based on this, you really think the Elantra will affect Vios sales?

on the contrary, it's the current civic that's being hung on to... it's getting A LOT of bookings... I'm thinking of booking one myself... The Elantra is really too eff-ing slow sad.gif

even the Honda SA themselves are worried bout the next gen Civic sales....  blink.gif

Yes thats true. The new Civic is getting very bad reviews overseas. It was voted second worst model in 2011 in the US. Consumer reports claim that interior quality has significantly deteoriated with increased road noise. The physical design is among the worst ive seen among the new models for this year.

My SA said that first batch would probably get their car by December
Get by December?? Thats the WORST time to register a new car. Within 1 month, your car is considered 1 year old and for Korean cars, every cent you get from resale value must be treasured.

Do you guys know why many car manufacturers like to launch new models in Malaysia towards end of the year? 1 of the main reasons is because they use a year end launch in Malaysia as a method to push off current year stock from other countries.

There is always a lul in car sales towards year end as everybody knows the massive drop in resale value coming if they register too late. Thus, many car manufacturers use the year end period to create excitement by launching new models then.

My advise to everybody is not to get caught up with the euphoria of a new launch. Be patient, weigh your options and decide whats best before committing to a car purchase. Always remember that in Malaysia, car purchases are like buying a property (minus the returns) with a lot of thinking and evaluation required before purchasing. The idea is to always try and minimise losses.

So dont rush and register a car after Aug/Sept. If you can, then please wait for the following year model. But if ure trading in a car, then do the math first.

Hi Cybermaster bro,

I'm a car nub here.

Kindly advise on 2nd hand cars, will it be prudent as well to wait for early next year for the 2nd hand shops to reduce the price (assuming it's not a hot-selling car) and also to push for an ASAP sale of my current car to direct buyers or dealers now?
Car prices drop with age. So if ure a buyer then waiting a few months to get a 2nd hand car would be worth your while. But if ure selling then you gotta do the math. Check prices of the car u intend to sell this year compared to its price next year and then compare that with the price of your new car. Do the math and compare.

The best option would be to sell your current car this year and wait a few months to buy your new car in 2012. But not everybody has the luxury of waiting that long without a vehicle to commute daily.

Volkswagen Jetta, Passat and Touran launched. But the Passat design is a bit of a disappointment i would say. But now ppl would hold back on purchase knowing that the CKD versions of the same models will be out in a few months as well.

You'll be surprised how much difference additional 1/2 gear cogs make, Elantra will most likely get 6 speed gearbox across all range.

One of my customer wanted to test the Tucson 2.4 thinking that 2.0 underpowered, but I let him test drive the 2.0, after that straight away sign order.

CVT is not the 'holy grail' of gearbox technology. Sure you get infinite ratios, but at what reliability cost? There's reason why Honda stopped using the CVT gearbox just after one generation of City.

Last I heard, the dispute is close to being resolved, I am hoping that the Elantra is CKD model, it's not going to have major impact as far as I know all Hyundai's CKD models use fully imported parts. Just no AP and faster delivery biggrin.gif
So when is the anticipated launch? Any latest feedback on the pricing?

I know its a different class. Im driving a Civic, changing to Avante is like changing to altis only, same class. I'm looking forward to either Sportage or Veloster.

Does anyone know if the SG version of Avante comes with the park-assist or not?

About GDI, I thought VW cars are already using direct injected engines? How come Hyundai/Kia cannot bring it in yet?
If u wanna upgrade, then consider the Peugeot 508 Turbo. It costs RM 169,888 OTR.

In terms of outright acceleration, the Polo is slightly faster than the Forte 1.6 (9.7s vs 10.5s) but top speed is around the same as quoted (190km/h). If your friend's Forte is the 2.0 6-sp, then yeah it can take on the Polo but not that great a difference (9.7s vs 8.85s and 190km/h vs 210km/h). It will take a Golf/Jetta 1.4 TSI to whack the Forte 2.0 smile.gif
The 2003 1.5L Toyota Vios (109HP) is still a serious contender in terms of acceleration i see. 0-100kmph in 9.8 secs. biggrin.gif
