I really doubt the Civic will look like that (but secretly hope it is). If so Avante can seriously compete with the Civic. I didn't put Altis because I felt the target market would be different.

Hyundai delay the Avante because of the bad sales record for the current version. Most of the Malaysian when buying something, first they will look for the brand first, then only price, design....! Just take the current Sonata as an example, they said the sales is really good, but until now, I only saw 2 Sonatas, other than that none! I think Hyundai also don't want to disturb the Kia Forte sales, which currently doing pretty good for Korean car.
*
First of all there is no delay in the Avante. Secondly, even if there was a delay its nothing to do with current AVante sales. Sales of Korean cars arent good in Malaysia mainly because of the after sales service. If they can improve that, then they will become competitive again.

The Sonata isnt doing well cuz they priced it too close to the Camry. If it had been about 10K cheaper, its sales will improve.

Seems like you guys not really understand how is the automotive market going, especially in Malaysia. Hyundai will not rushing to bring in the Avante just because of gorgeous look and a lot of people give good comments. They have to think how they can clear all the current Avante. And what is the price level the new Avante should be priced? RM100K, 90K, 80K??? If in between RM100K, Hyundai know they can't beat the Altis, Civic and Sylphy, don't even think about the Proton Inspira. If RM90K, it will be eating the Kia Forte current market which doesn't make any sense for Hyundai to do this, they better leave it that way as long as Kia Forte can get good sales. RM80K, no way, in this price range, they hardly can make profit out there so they will think twice whether really need to "hard sell" the Avante? And one more thing is the commitment for the Hyundai Korea, if Sime Darby really decide to launch the Avante, the Korean sure will need Sime Darby to commit certain quantity, which Sime Darby have to think twice.
*
Some of us are aware of the market conditions. I for one surely do. The pricing will surely be within the 90-95K range for the 1.8L. Yes it will be in direct competition with the Forte but then again, the Forte is also due for a facelift next year with a 6 speed gearbox and a price increase of about RM 6K. The Forte does not have a 1.8L and i believe this was planned so as to not compete with the Avante.

Besides, Hyundai has always been known to price their cars too high thus putting them too close to Toyota & Honda and killing their sales in the process. They did the same with the current Sonata and the poor sales are proof. Hope they dont repeat the same mistake with the Avante.

I think their biggest competition will actually come from the 2011 Honda Civic. Thus it would be in their best interest to delay the Avante launch till after the Civic's arrival to determine final pricing.

I second that. The Sonata is not priced competitively to break into the D segment which is almost monopoly by Accord and Camry.
If they price the 1.8 Avante 10k cheaper than the 1.8 Civic, which one most people here will buy, very obvious is it.
*
Pricing the Avante cheaper by 10K to a Honda Civic still will not save it from doom. To compete with Toyota and Honda, they would need to price at least about 15-20K cheaper. The Sonata was about 9K cheaper than the Camry but it did not eat into the Camry sales at all. In fact, Toyota started selling more Camry's after the launch of the Sonata thanks to their effective promos.

Even 20k cheaper I would think twice. According to Paultan report, the new Avante has only 14.2km/L on the highway. That is very poor efficiency for a new car.
14.2km/L is very poor fuel consumption? Are u sure u know what it means? shocking.gif

For instance, a Toyota Vios has a 42L fuel tank. So with a fuel consumption of 14.2km/L, a full tank can easily take the Vios almost 600km. And u say this is very poor? If that is considered very poor then a good rating would be about 20km/L giving a total full tank mileage of 840km. This means that a full tank on a Vios can take you from Singapore to Haadyai??? rclxub.gif

ROFL! He's a VIOS owner, whaddaya expect. I wonder how's his Vios fuel consumption like? laugh.gif
*
I too am a Vios owner and you can get about 16km/L for highway drive which is good and many other cars also have the same. But to say that the Avante 14.2km/L is really poor doesnt make sense at all.

how much at least my salary and bank statement to buy this car? i wan to buy without guarantor...tq

Cars are a losing commodity. Commit to a house first. If you dont have a property, then dont bother about driving expensive cars. If you already have a property, then i would only advise you to think about this car (with a max 5 yr loan) if ure earning at least RM 12K a month. Dont bite off more than you can chew no matter how good looking the car is.

saw some avante review on youtube, leg room for rear is big enough, but head room might not be sufficient for tall ppl due to the shape design of the car (something like Gen2 rear seats la).. but our malaysian average height is not as tall as mat salleh, so maybe is not a big concern.. (the review was done in US)
The headroom is enough. I am almost a 6 footer.

Anyone knows if new car being launched (i mean the new avante) got any discount or not? Bcoz one SA posted saying got discount for some hyundai models. The current avante with RM11k discount, true o not???

Wondering if the upcoming avante got any discount such as this... must be very attractive.
*
Why should the upcoming Avante have any discounts??? Do u know why discounts are offered? Its always either to boost sales of unpopular models or to clear old stock. Nobody gives discounts for new launches. The closest to a discount would be a promo price for a limited period.

White definitely is my choice..

The most difficult color to maintain imo. Looks good only when clean. Once dirty, looks very crappy. Best color in my opinion is the silver. Clean or dirty it still has its looks.

Optima look nice..
but im still aiming for Avante due to budget..
Yes im planning to change. This year my Vios will be 8 yrs old. But its gonna be very difficult to leave Toyota. So still targetting the upcoming Camry. If not ill just keep my Vios. No problems so far so no reason to hurry for a change.

u stay loyal with toyota huh..
just curious, y dont give a try on other brand?
my parents drive sonata for 8 years, all relative and friends was disagree with their decision, but the sonata does not have any prob until today  smile.gif
tats y i dare to try on the comin avante.

FYI, my bro's parents in law driving Avante X20 ~ no bad comment as well..  nod.gif
Yes i might change if the specs and prices are better. I give alot of importance to after sales service and resale value in addition to pricing and specs of course. The latest Sonata is priced too close to the Camry. If they make the same mistake with the Avante then it will become a problem.

Added on February 9, 2011, 11:13 am

can share which branch you get that discount?
*
I gave the contact to Yeowa and he too called up in December and confirmed the discount is 22K. I dont think i have the contact anymore. I think it was the branch in Cheras.

Bro, the 22k is before road tax and insurance. The cheapest I got is only 79,888 all in. smile.gif
*
Is it that guy which i told u to call? The 22K was a discount from the OTR price. Plus that was in December. Im sure the discounts are more now. Can u call him again and check whats the current discount? Im sure they're more desperate to push off units since the Avante has already been revealed on Malaysian shores.

hi cybermaster, yes i called the guy you mentioned. also aurelius inform me about this guy in cheras branch, today i went to his showroom confirm the price is 80888 + insurance + free gps for the whole package. sound a good deal? idk u guys tell me?

by the way ss2 branch offer is 80388, not 80300, the SA very frank and told me that he slash half of his comm to give me this deal of 80388, the price is actually 80888 same as cheras branch and that their comm is 1k. true or not? again idk lah.....

her are the things i gather:
1) ss2 branch, RM80388 OTR (no free gift) 15 units black color left, limited silver and sapphire silver (dont know how many left but very limited)
2) cheras branch, RM80888 OTR (free gps system) few units black, 1 unit sapphire grey only
3) puchong branch, RM81888 OTR (no free gift) only black and sapphire in stock

all branch SA seem to provide good service, atleast this is how i feel after meeting them la... whoever want their contacts can always pm me smile.gif last but not least, i think avante is the way if anyone is looking for comfort and have a slightly tight budget, when i test drive avante, i feel like driving a luxury car, something like driving a sylphy but at 25k less price smile.gif
*
You should always get a nett price minus all the freebies. Dont bother about the GPS or whatver. Always ask for a discunt based on the OTR price only. Dont be taken up by freebies. Getting a discount based on OTR price gets u lower loan payments which are worth much more in the long term than the GPS anyway.

On the Avante itself, u must remember that eventhough its 25K less than the Sylphy now, but the resale value (which is already low) will drop further when the new Avante is launched. So u need to take all this into account and get the best cash discount possible. Dont be satisfied with the prices above.

Remember than Hyundai will face bigger losses if they still have stock when the new Avante is launched so they are getting more desperate to push off current stock. Take advantage of this desperation and dont settle for less.
