spec is good enuff, but i duno why i juz dislike the screen size. this kind of spec should be at least 15" inch screen, but juz 14. too small, it's unpleasant for gamers. am i right?

This laptop is 14" but the spec can compared to laptop within 15"/16" range..that's the reason why called it 15" killer as we rarely see a powerful 14" laptops for gaming nod.gif...as we know, when using such mid-powerful cards as HD5650/GT335M in a 14", the main concern is heat sad.gif..same goes to Y460, the good thing is that the GPU is switchable (well, N82Jv got optimus tongue.gif)...

well, but it's not as big a killer as it's predecessors though...

N80V - T9400 + 9650M GT
N81V - T9600+ HD4650/HD4670

both using the same GPU as the 15" in the market at their time... + the using top of the line CPU as well...

i was expecting i7 620M + HD5730 for N82Jv...

What do you meant by the color is horrible, issit the appearance??? Well, some do look at appearance when choosing a laptop while some look at spec, for which i think N82Jv is more on spec-base (for a gaming mobility laptop like the N80 Series before)...

i second that, if you're looking more on the appearance, why not go for alienware instead.
as far as i know, dell has bad reputation for its quality control.

You sure is RM3999 for Core i5 520M not RM4999??
According to the Asus catalog for PC fair offer, the price is RM4999.
Then RM3999 is a very good price, i will buy immediately!!!

A little dissapointed after doing some testing . The GC driver look like having some problems. Games such as GTA 4 unable to detect the GT335M even the laptop has switch to it from integrated GC. After some google search i found out that Nvidia Optimus has some compability problem for some games which cannot detect the "powerful" GC

However this is the benchmark from street fighter 4 with highest setting:

probably not benchmarks, since it's obvious that N82Jv has better hardware than N81Vp...

i was thinking perhaps a comparison on temperature, both idle and full load...

so far so good .. the problem is the GC driver has minor bug but the problem can be solved by upgrding latest Nvidia driver and also the games problem i mention in post above but so far i only discover GTA 4 having this problem.

depends on how u see, from the POV of a N81Vp owner, N82Jv is good, but some of the small small things that may prove irritating...

1) mainstream CPU, N81Vp has the top of the line dual core CPU of the time (namely Core 2 Duo T9550/T9600, equivalent to Core i7 620M now bas on class)
2) only 3 USB ports, while N81 and N80 have 5
3) no fingerprint scanners (subjective, but it's fun to ve one tongue.gif)
4) choice of GPU (expecting HD5650 since it has DX11, but not GT 335M)

take a screenshot when idle, CPU full load, and GPU full load...

at any time needs CPU-Z, GPU-Z and Hwmonitor shown...

for stressing apps, u can try StressCPU 2.0 or Orthos for CPU, and FurMark for GPU... these are the known most stressful tests on hardware...

i'll upload some pics soon...

now waiting for my laptop to cool down after some folding... laugh.gif

have been Dingdong around which lappy to replace my aged Lenovo Y400 for daily works.
Almost get the Dell XPS16 at RM3899, but at the end turned to Asus N82JV for its USB3.0 and other features like lower heat and better battery life.
Today will place the order. Dunno when can get it in hand!!!

According to the Asus catalog for PC fair offer, the price is RM4999.
Then RM3999 is a very good price, i will buy immediately!!!

Update your Nvidia Driver and intel GC driver to latest version to solve the minor bugs. If u didnt update u will find out your power LED will not change colour even u switch to GT335M.

Power LED will show what GC u using :

Blue---> Intel GC
White---->Nvidia GC

This is how u change the GC by Auto and Manual :

Prefer Which GC to Use ( Will auto change if it detect what the program need, but i think quite buggy since some program it will not auto change)

Attached Image

Manual Setting (Default) For Each Program

Another way, use this function:

Then , u will find out extra function to execute the program :

Hopefully this post will help u. cool2.gif

According to Nvidia forum PES2010 is another games having problem detecting Nvidia GT335M. They believe this cause by Nvidia driver. Nothing can be done now, need to wait Nvidia release new driver.

then you need to give them the games.. sweat.gif

both of the games.. will cost around RM 130 each.. so.. both will be RM 260 ..

anyway.. i'm sure both games can running well in N82JV..

Mass effect 2 will be okay if u play in high setting..

but for Dragon Age Origins.. i'm not pretty sure.. maybe high-medium setting..?

because.. the game recommendation is Core 2 Quad 2.4 GHz ,

The distributor just deliver the N82JV to me.
Looks good but a bit heavy.
They included only a USB Optical mouse but not wireless mouse. Already complained and ask for a new wireless mouse.

Now put on charging. later will start migrate my emails and files.

i tried to install the two drivers i downloaded from nvidia (the verde 197.16 and optimus 189.79) but failed to install them.

For the verde driver setup, there was a pop up saying that a suitable driver could not be found while the optimus one triggered a pop up saying "Non 7-zip archive".

Anyone could shed some light?

Thanks

I figured out that the verde driver is most probably not compatible with the n82jv as the driver is released earlier than the n82jv.

As for the optimus driver, i managed to install it and things are working fine so far. When the nvidia GPU is turned on, the LED color turns white smile.gif Anyway i still have yet to try the n82 with autocad or any 3ds software as the ones i have now are not compatible with the win 7 64 bit.....sad.gif

Try get it from Evernew's outlets around Digital Mall. Yesterday checked with them the N82JV drop to RM3999.
RM4XXX is for N62Jv model.

Just installed the optimus 189.79 driver and latest Intel HD driver.
Now can see the white light ON when startup. Will try more later..

Added on May 24, 2010, 2:19 amI try to start the trial for the preinstalled MsOffice 2007.
But when I run the Activation Assitant, try to get the activation code online,
it show the error message:
"The Microsoft Office Activation Assistant was unable to request your trial activation key. Please check your Internet connection and try again. If the error continues, go to www.microsoft.com/office/pctrial2007 to request a trial activation key. "

When go the website it request me to register for new account and get the activation code and download. I just copy the code and paste on the activation, it said wrong code. So i suspect the code i got is only for the new installation which they ask me to download.

Anyone have the same? Any solutions? I would like to temporary use this 2months trial license. later i will try to get new genuine license.

Please shed more light on this, if you really believe it is not recommended then mention all the aspects of why it is not recommended... i thought of getting this laptop soon and i have reserved it. So hope to hear from you soon

I understand that i was told y460 is a better buy but when i went to midvalley that day for their displays, the asus n82jv seemed pretty good. I have been reading reviews online about it and the "experts" have rated it with a very high score so im confused now.

What kind of problems are you facing especially?

hmmm... same here, n82jv seems pretty good for me too. and i am in the midst of getting 1 too.

i guess every1 is struggling on the nvidia optimus only?
other than that ... i think it is good enuf.

ohh yah, 1 obvious thing i found out compare to y460, is the heat on the keypad (where you put your palm on),
assuming they switched on the laptop for whole day in midvalley, asus still remain cool...

well, is my point of view ... i need more inputs as well. notworthy.gif

well, if u ask me (i own N81Vp), N82Jv seems to be lacking in some of the small detail...

wat would u think if i tell u that N81 and N80 series ve a total of 5 USB ports??? and that these 2 series use C2D T9000 series, which are top of the line dual core of their time...

we dun ve Optimus, but with Asus P4GH, we can still squeeze out more than 3hrs of battery life with WiFi...

Hey!

I just bought the Asus N82, and was wondering where to download the drivers, lol. FOund the NVIDIA one but not sure about the Intel one?

Okay nevermind, found it in a previous post.

And does anyone know what exactly does the Super Hybrid Engine do, and if it's actually useful? Thanks lol. xD

Yes, the cooling system is good that dun feel hot on palm rest even on for 8hrs!

My reason to buy N82JV:
1. USB3.0
2. 2yrs Global warranty
3. Good cooling system. I can feel cold on the Alumminium body!!!!
4. Low failure rate (according to the report)

or else I will get the Dell Studio XPS16 for the similar price range, which have cool product design.

i didn't play any games. mainly for business use.
After updated the Intel HD & Nvidia Optimus driver, no issue yet.
later will try on 3D CAD and CAE software to check the performance.

Added on May 31, 2010, 5:06 pmi just found that if i left my wireless mouse's USB nanoreceiver on the USB3.0, it will hang at boot up. if i remove the nanoreceiver, then it can reboot nicely.
maybe it is conflict of hardware or driver.
Don't have permanent solution yet.
anyone face the same?

RM4999 is for N61. N82 starting price that time should be RM4399.
Now the MSRP is RM3999.

So far with the new optimus driver everything is running fine.

Could run AutoCAD 2010 but cant recognise GT335M most prolly due to the laptop was released way later than the software. Now waiting to get my hands on 2011.

Anyway tried Dirt2 and the graphics were crisp smile.gif

Heheh and I thought that the downside of getting the GT335M was bcos it could support up till dx10 prior to the new update. Wit the new update and having dx11, things just get better and better biggrin.gif

Playing games like BC2 and Dirt 2 would be quite warm. However i feel the fan is doing a good job in ventilating all the warm air out. How did u check for the temp?

nah... it's still DX10.1, it's hardware limitation...

showing DX11 merely means u ve the DX files installed and Windows can make use of that if ur GPU supports that as well...

my Win7 has been showing DX11 since the days of beta, and i am using a HD4650...

guys help pls,
i'm thinking of getting the sexy N82JV, or save myself RM720 by getting the A42JV + RM180 to 4GB ram upgrade.

A42JV (RM2950) -ve points include, no USB3 port, slower CI5 at 450M, lower webcam quality at 0.3mp, and 500gb HDD

N82JV (RM3850) -ve points include, only 2 usb ports, higher price +RM720, and sound littered with issues from this thread

additional consideration: i'm also considering alienware m11x CI5 at RM4199, without dvd drive and a longer wait. but specced out with 7.2k rpm HDD, 5.1surround and 1333mhz ram

question: which to go for?
better question: anyone can suggest a place with more discount?

requirements: portability, work@home/coffeeshop/plane/airport, gaming: plays diablo3 altho i know its not out yet, and some popular FPS at med gfx settings. I also intend to get a 22inch monitor at the side for excel work

only found two... usb3.0 on closer left, and a usb2.0 on farthest right underneath the flappy thing.

just read your post on the a42jv's mic and speaker being from one port.. thats odd isn't it

There's one usb 3.0 on the left, one usb 2.0 on the right, one esata/usb combo on the right...
So there's 3 usb port...

About the combo port, well, to cut cost....
Its also happen to older A42J if not mistaken..

they ve to separate the the 2 laptops from each other...

iirc, N82Jv has better webcam (2MP vs VGA), more software included, etc...

but still, the lack of USB ports is a real turn off for me...

There are USB headphones in the market now...so it you should still be able to use mic and headphone at the same time...
just that you'll lose one USB port..

thx guys
wasn't aware of the combo port. the sales guy didn't mention either (quite a young chap, maybe new to this)

is it true that when using usbhub on a usb2.0 port, it is no longer 2.0?
i noticed this issue on the vaio with my usb2.0 pen drives - transfer of data becomes as slow as the old usb ports. I asked some guys at lowyat yesterday and they either dont know, or just nod their head "yea yea" - not convincing enough.

to make final decision - i'm going to lowyat later to type furiously on a42 and the n82 keyboards...
so far 75%for the a42

Actually is up to u to decide whether u want upgrade ur laptop or not from A42Jv to N82Jv which have better ascpect in some hardware like processor, HDD, RAM , USB3.0(since u look like dun like the turtle speed of 2.0)~~ For me, RM750 worth la ~~ Yesterday i go lowyat buy something for my laptop ~~ One USB2.0 Hub (RM13) , One USB keyboard (RM25), One CM cooler (RM50) to be feed to my laptop ~~ now have 5 USB2.0 port + one USB3.0 port ~~ and the data transfer still normal since the hub USB cable still short. if long will effect on your accesory like slow mouse, slow keyboard input etc ~~ rclxms.gif

i believe because u use old USB1.1 hub. I'm using one for my Logitech wireless mouse, so if i plug in USB drive it tell me is not highspeed.
Later need to buy one USB2.0 to replace it.

For me, i bought this because of USB3.0 ready. so no need to change within couple of yrs when the USB3.0 drives are common.
For extra USB ports, just buy a USB hub lor!! tongue.gif

Btw, one thing i found out very cool is the laptop Alu cover is very "COOL" in the air-conditioned room!! like ice cool!!! thumbup.gif

ok lar ... basically ... out of 3 , usually i pakai 1 or 2 , since i am using bluetooth mouse.

i am using dell latitude for company matters , and asus for home used.. dell with 4 usb ports fyi .. the most , i pakai is 3.

seriously ... it depends on how u use .. really. n i dun think how many usb ports shud be a main concern on buying laptops.

so astria ... no offence ... 3 usb ports is more than enuf for me... u give me 10 usb ports on other laptops ... i wont give a shyt also. coz that is not my main criteria.

I brought VZTEC USB hub near sri murni cost RM13 , black in colour and square shape come along with one short cable~~ currrently use up to 3 port for CM cooler, keyboard and mouse ~~ no problem at all~ all function well~~ If u scare not enough power one, u can always buy USB with adapter, but that will cost more ~~ so far the three i plug in wont use so much power, except u want to plug in another external HDD, that will different story ~~ if want plug in external HDD~~ then choose other port~~ i short ~~ 1 to 4 USB port can support cooler + keyboard + mouse + pendrive with no problem at all thumbup.gif

2. i downloaded the 257.21 drivers (for windows 7 64) but its not resolving the blue/white light on the power button.. i thought thats supposed to fix it?

3. how do i monitor temperatures? software? can't seem to search forum properly

4. what does that S.H.E. do? does it sing taiwanese pop songs?

5. i see ppl saying they can overclock cpu - how is this done?

6. what are the bloatwares i can safely remove from the laptop?

1. Win7 x64 iirc but still need verdang or dagnaros to clarify this nod.gif

2. Might related with BIOS, any BIOS update for it?? Try re-install it again perhaps nod.gif

3. HWMonitor, for CPU can use CoreTemp (google it smile.gif) and GPU can use GPU-Z also

4. Nonsense question, not related to Mobile Computing at all doh.gif

5. Yes, you can OC your CPU but pretty risky because wrong step and you'll burn your CPU and bye bye

6. Well, check one by one, see if the bloatwares useful or not, some are not while some are just crap..well, if you can use it then no need to uninstall it nod.gif

2. my problem seems kinda fixed. previously when using the nvidia, still no white lights after installing latest driver. thought i had installed wrong driver as i wasn't sure about whether the windows was 32 or 64bit. Also because i received some error messages while trying to install that driver (i tried 4 times before no error msg)

the n82jv has this S.H.E. thing about saving energy - anyone enabled?

how come u run warcraft using intel GMA graphic?

btw, where to update the intel GMA graphic?
*
i change the setting to run warcraft with global setting(integrate GC) due to jerky mouse movement when using dedicated GC~~ dunno why ~~ blush.gif

i update through the control centre and intel GC update show as optional ~~ lol~ biggrin.gif

comments? good machine so far. very impressed. problems come with the graphics driver though. nvidia optimus still new technology and the latest nvidia drivers are HORRIBLE! also on the gaming side, the optimus tech means you'll have two graphics cards running at the same time. games such as CoD4 or BFBC2 which use punk buster will kick you out for multiple direct3d error. its not nvidia's fault its evenbalance's fault. but that doesn't mean i'm not upset.

further more i have similar problems with the dotards using the lappy lol. very spiky when playing games. CoD4 and SupCom Forged Alliance spike very regularly. more annoying than problematic but it affects my CoD4 performance =( not sure if this is a driver issue also or the 335M beh tahan which i doubt.

The spike you mean is it something like 1ms hang then go smooth again?
If it is, try turn off turbo boost and play again...

So it seems like switchable graphics is not such a brilliant idea.

Would you guys recommend this laptop, or its brother the A42?

For me it's between this and Dell XPS.

Nice to see that most people say it keeps cool.

Any other complaints?

Anyway nvidia thingy is a failure , the reason why some issues occurs is that the switchable graphics still writes to the internal GPU framebuffer which is stored in RAM. Basically both the graphics card are working when nvidia turned on. It does not switch like AMDs one or how apple does it

AMDs - is between on the go or power. Basically when you're on battery , you're forced to use onboard GPU. on AC , you get the faster graphics processor
Nvidia - Basically best in both worlds. It loads on demand when it sees you're using demanding application it switches on the dedicated GPU. But there is disadvantage , the onboard GPU is kept running when dedicated GPU is turned on. While on battery , it can consume even more power , and when you switch it has to remove framebuffer from nvidia card and back to intel. Basically when you switch , nvidia uses intel's "memory" instead. Basically it would be like having 2 RAMs (1GB for nvidia , 288MB or whatever Intel gives to their video card. So when you load games , the processing is done in "nvidia card" and its transferred to Intels onboard GPU memory and Intel feeds this information to the display. Basically intel card as acts a middle man
Apples Solution - similar to Nvidias except that OS handles (notice , apples solution does not work on windows) the whole thing. when onboard GPU is activated , the dedicated is shut off. when a user runs demanding application , contents of the framebuffer is transfered to the dedicatd memory and nvidia has full control , intel gpu is shut off.

This gives you the answer why it flickers for nvidia optimus user. Bear in mind if you activate nvidia gpu on battery , its going to suck even more battery life as both intel and nvidia cards are turned on

Asus N82Jv sure can play Starcraft 2 la ~~ can put high setting also no problem rclxms.gif

U can always plug into TV using HDMI port lo~~ i always do that in watching movie and some gaming(connect to my panny 42inch TV) ~~~ so nice ~~~ rclxms.gif

A42jv with 4gb, how much difference between i5 and i7??

and i think i7 can last longer than i5? futureproofing.

he means N82Jv phase out, replaced by N82Jq...

difference? double perhaps since it has two more physical cores...
even if you have i7 which should last longer than i5 but still the GT335M would get outdated pretty soon, which usually bottleneck the games performances.....

first of all, i deleted all the mini games. thats the first thing i did.

then, looking forward to delete other asus preinstalled software as well. those are useless for me.

so far this nb has served me really well, love the 64 bit IE, making me switch from firefox4beta3. i wish firefox comes with 64 bit as well!

Looking at the "reflective" skin color and image, those are "ULTRA" setting in SCII.
It looks "fake" to me. I found jaggies too. It's especially obvious in this

For me, the best image setting is "hight", with AF 16x & AA 4x.

Yes, both AA and AF make huge difference in terms of image quality.

Set to "high" setting in SCII.
Manually change the AA & AF in nVidia control panel (right click on desktop and you'll see nVidia control panel).

I still face the same problem on boot up if the USB ports are plugged with external HDD or Logitech wireless mouse adapter.

It will pause at the windows logo with black background. If i unplug those USB, then it will proceed to the login screen.

However, it is no problem for boot up if I plug in the Genius wireless mouse adapter.
Anyone can help?
