Guys, i need some help to use my n900 as modem in my fedora os.
I managed to use wvdial to connect to the internet and the output is at below:
-->Using interface ppp0
--> local IP address xxx.xxx.xxx
--> remote IP address xxx.xxx.xxx
--> primary DNS address xxx.xxx.xxx
--> secondary DNS address xxx.xxx.xxx

I did some research, and i found out the output should appear a line say the route is ok or something one. So what did i miss out? Any sifu can guide me? Thanks.

p/s: I able to connect skype, but cannot go into google. The error is cant resolve host name.

Sorry for not being clear on that. YES, if you use XLV, Ideal, ULV, LV or Starving profiles - you WILL save battery, because lower voltages are used.

But which one will work for you best, that's trial and error. Some profiles might cause your N900 to restart often, because of voltages that are too low.

ULV profile set to 250-600mhz is a good place to start for battery saving (because Ideal doesn't do 250 too well I've read). If that is stable (no restarts and other funny stuff) you can try XLV next, maybe 250-500mhz.

I'm currently on Starving 250-500mhz most of the time, with shortcuts set to push that up to 500-900 when ever needed.

Yeah, titan's kernel. Also try out Aspire's Lehto tutorials, even simpler.

Woah, I somehow realized that tweaking the transitions file has an effect on how often my N900 gets stuck in portrait after a call. Too fast = more lockups in portrait.

Maybe the N900 just can't cope, or maybe transitions that are too fast are triggering a bug in the landscape/portrait switch. FYI for anyone interested.

Hi all,

Just wanted to say that i just got back my AP N900 after 2 weeks of repair. Luckily under warranty. My right side speaker failed to function for no apparent reason. Search around the net and it seems that replacing 1 speaker unit cost about RM180 and mind you our N900 have 2 speakers. What a bomb.....

In this 2 weeks, i had to revert back to my Iphone 3GS in which i use for entertainment purposes. After using the N900 for some time now, i'm starting to dislike my Iphone bit by bit. Really missing 2 things though, websurfing and cpu speed (OC to 1Ghz).

Anyone of you guys having similar misfortunes as i am? Hope that it an isolated case...

Suppose can convert Garmin to TXT and TXT to Sygic POI. I'm still searching how to convert Garmin to TXT files. TXT to Sygic can download here http://www.sygic.com/index.php/en/download-tools.html

Hooyarr!

Reached Mobile Computing Project Milestone 1: Got VNC viewer working through 3G... It's laggy but more than bearable, I can start/stop/control my downloads or whatever from wherever with 3G!

With enough patience, that is, lol.

Should perform better with a good solid WLAN connection, but it's a proof of concept. Or rather, a dream come true - never mind the rough edges.

Remote desktop control FTW!

Next, VPN for constant access of all my files.

Man, I'm actually creating so many frigging holes for people to dig into my lappy lol.

Sure, it's the *nix spirit after all.

Howto is here: http://variableghz.com/2008/09/getting-serious-about-vnc/

Note that it's a guide to setup your Windows PC to accept VNC connections, but the N900 viewer doesn't really need any tweaking at all. As a bonus, you can install VNC viewer on ANY computers and be able to access your PC remotely the same way now.

For the N900 side, just install VNC Viewer from xtras-d (or xtras, forgot), run, enter server:port (wahlala.whatsmyip.com:5900) and password (that you set) and you're rockin!

Remember, volume up+click = right click, volume down+click = middle click.

Any questions, do PM. And yes, expect it to by laggy through 3G.

And I'm not sure if it works the same way through Win 7, as I expect the video hook driver to be a SLIGHT problem on 7.

Basically no need setting from N900. It's very simple and straighforward.

Just need to set port forwarding from the router, and set static IP for your PC/laptop.
Need to configure the Windows Firewall too (or any other firewall or possibly security one may have that may block access).
