I see most of you have either Quick Settings or apndroid but they font seem to work for me. Wont properly cut off data connection and restore the apns like when and as I like. Oh well.

Not many apparently on media I see. 3 for music, one of the coolest music apps around. Shazam too for me, amazed me everytime with its accuracy and music junk for music downloading. Haven't quite decided a fave radio app yet...

Anyone with good keyboard recs? Swype is out the question right now but I'm currently using shapewriter which is alright.

I tried Barnacle Wifi Tether before make my phone as a router..
But not successful!!
So, the only way is make my phone as a modem with using EasyTether..
Easy.. But will harm the phone if long term usage.. nod.gif nod.gif

Just gave it a test run. The road display works, but the voice guidance kicks in too late or not at all. It could be dangerous to drive and have to look at the phone to see the directions. The app is not ready for prime time yet.

"We’ve tried it and it isn’t without any flaws and limitation. We discovered that there’s no street name displayed at the top (Unnamed road) and timing of Voice Guidance is too late. The GPS lady voice often gives direction AFTER making the turn, which is pointless. So you would need to depend on the on screen directions instead."

Prices for some applications are stated in other currencies than USD, I guess it will be our bank that will convert the currency value to RM.

Provided that you can sign apk/zip, you can always put those free apps into /data/app/

Especially those long-time-no-update apps, for example GScript Lite, SMS Unread Count, ShootMe, and maybe Google Maps.

I am trying out Financisto. I am unwilling to pay, for now. Hehe..

By the way, does Shopper and ShopSavvy works while we are in Malaysia? Or they work in the US only?

They sort of work here; I've tried on snacks & books. Problem is that they check for US price only and use US dollar. I couldn't get them to show local prices. Anyone else have any luck?

I have too many apps.

But the most important one is JuiceDefender. It really help improve my battery life by 2 times.

Another good app which is useful to detect speed trap and police road blocks is Trapster

it depends on the community reporting the traps. you have to report and hope someone does the same. some areas might not have anyone reporting for days.

1. Relax & Sleep - It's a sound machine that have all kinds of relaxing sound; e.g. beach, water or bird chirping. You can configure the mixture of each sound

2. TuneWiki Social Media - Can hear music streaming. Some of the songs comes with auto scrolling lyrics too.

3. Lookout Mobile Security - To scan our phones for any virus and also helps to locate our phone in case of missing.

I would like to ask whether is there any application that can throughly remove all Files & Folder once we uninstall application. There will still be remaining files & folders although uninstall. hmm.gif

Try buzzbox? The widget for it is too small..but the app itself is pretty alright.

open the stock messaging app and disable the notification inside it.

Btw, Quickdesk seems like a nice app. Now you can have true multitasking with it.

For news addicts, the New York Times app is great. In-depth long articles that can be read offline. Articles grouped like newspaper sections. Best of all, it's got sharp video that fills the whole Milestone screen.

Google is working on an enhanced web portal to its Android Market, with plans to make the whole catalogue searchable through a desktop browser and to deliver app purchases wirelessly to the phone.

My must have apps on Legend:

1) Voice to text (I use low res sense style)
2) Nexus One Gallery (3D gallery - way way better than stock and smooth too)
3) Voice Search (damn cool)

the first three is not included on stock legend

4) Gesture search (google's own app, very very useful for quick searching for stuff on your phone)
5) Lookout mobile security (antivirus)
6) Astro (file manager)
7) Handcent SMS (allow for more customization for messages and nice popup for quick reply)
8) FxCamera (Nice camera effect)
9) Juicedefender (extend battery life)
10) K9 Mail (better email app)
11) Ringdroid (make your own ringtones from mp3 files that you have)

Unrooted, then go ATK, set security level to low.
Then you you do a 1 time kill all, then set security level back to what it was originally.

Well according to EasyTether's official page, http://goo.gl/8HOD
it DOES support Windows 7, in addition to Vista, XP and Ubuntu.

There is EasyTether Life if you wanted a demo.

I would like to ask, for Robodefense, where do the phone usually store the data?? I mean for the achievements that you got in robodefense. I m afraid that after i root and flash my phone, all my data will be gone. If it's stored in SD card, then it's fine.

Hi all,

I've released two more android applications and I believe you will find them useful (i certainly did, that's why I developed them):

Wifi Toggler - http://slideme.org/application/wifi-toggler
Screen On Toggler - https://slideme.org/application/screen-toggler

Quick Overview: basically they're replacement for your search button when you long press it, used to quickly toggle your wifi on or off OR screen timeout to never timeout (always on) or restore screen timeout setting.

Enjoy smile.gif

Do check out my other android apps:

Hi guys, I've been reading on Task Killers and how it can drain battery life since it's on all the time.

Does it really harm more than it helps?

Also, if I don't install Task Killers... how do I turn off some apps? These apps have no "Exit" button. If I wanna use other apps, how do I manually kill the current app?

I installed Fancy Widget 1.3 and found that, my SGS will suddenly heat up and battery drain like hell. And later everything goes back to normal. The temp can goes up to 58 c and battery can drop 5% in a minute. I already disabled the refresh function. and no data transmit during that heat up period. Anyone know what caused this? Thanks

Any suggestion for Skype client on Android?

It would be nice if we can get the official Skype app but it seems like only Verizon wireless is supported. What about third party? I used to use Fring but now it's not supported anymore. I know Nimbuzz has it but I really dislike Nimbuzz.

I just want a clean client that can access Skype chat at least (of course voice call would be added advantage)

It is a built in feature in android. 2.1 only have screen timeout which automatically lock the screen. In 2.2 both are separate setting.

hi guys!
I have a hard time figuring how I can make my phone's bluetooth setting turn off whenever my bluetooth headset is disconnected.
To all of you who doesn't have a slightest clue what I'm saying, I'm using task automation app for android (paid version only) named "Tasker". this app is really AWESOME!
but it'll be more awesome if I can automate my phone's bluetooth setting so as to avoid unnecessary battery drainage. :-)

These are the apps I find useful for my usage:

1. Alarm Clock Plus
2. AudioGalaxy
3. Barcode Scanner
4. Battery History & Spare Parts (Almost the same)
5. Beluga (Something like whatsapp and facebook combine)
6. Car Home
7. Car Mode
8. Compass
9. Daily Dilbert
10. Dropbox
11. ES File Manager (Better than Astro IMO)
12. Fring (Can support multiple accounts)
13. Google Translate
14. Handcent SMS
15. Home Switcher
16. Quote Pro (Not satisfy but I couldn't find a better one)
17. Ringdroid
18. Rockplayer (Can't live without it)
19. Shootme (Need root)
20. Soccer Livescores
21. Titanium Backup (Need root)
22. Tunein Radio (Pandora is better but it can't be used outside of US)
23. Volume
24. Waze (Best traffic update for me)
25. Whatsapp (Free for one year, migrating to Beluga now)
26. Zedge (The latest version definitely faster)
27. PicSay (Best of all)

I found FLV Player to play FLV files, but it requires Adobe Air. Do you guys install Adobe Air? Also, what other good players play FLV?

I use Catch. Can set up PIN prompt upon startup. Can store notes, photos, etc. Synchronises with server so you can edit on your PC browser as well. Very good note taker.

So what's the fuss about picsay?

Award winning app?

What exactly do you do with it? It seems like all it does is add balloons and text and stuff to your pictures. What's so award-winning about this?

i see a lot of ppl using barcode scanner, but i think QR Droid is much more powerful, and you can even create your own QR code with it.

try Keeper (Data Vault) from Callpod. it's free on the market.
simple app, but very useful, I use the similar app on my iP4.
but, Keeper for Android kinda lack of visual appearance,
that would be not a problem if you just want an app for storing purpose only

How do you clear an app from the Market list of downloaded apps? I downloaded some of them to some phones, then the phones are factory-resetted / given / sold to other people. The list of phones and apps remain. Very annoying.

I can't decide between waiting for the next gen Iphone or just get the many android phones out there now.

One major factor is the apps. I believe there are more apps for the iphone than android phones...is that true?

Anyone knows if there are good (and preferably free) android apps for offline maps and offline language translators? I wish to travel without paying for roaming charges.

I guess you don't need a phone urgently if you can ask about the iPhone5. If you can wait, wait for it. If it's released end of this year, we should be getting it next year tongue.gif

There are some analysts who say Android apps will overtake iOS apps (in fact, in July). But Android apps quality is relatively lower than iOS version (eg. Facebook, eBay), and some apps and games are released on iOS first before ported over to Android if there's demand. Of course, there are some Android apps that will never be available on iOS because of the closed nature of the system (widgets, automation, etc).
http://asia.cnet.com/crave/study-android-t...ly-62208428.htm

If apps are your #1 priority, wait for iPhone5 or buy iPhone4 now laugh.gif

Offline worldwide maps - not sure.
Offline dictionaries: ColorDict. Can install languages you desire like German English, Japanese English, English Chinese, etc.

Android: more free app than iOS or the ratio of free to paid is higher in Android Market.
Apps quality maybe a bit lower than iOS, but I don't care as iOS apps are mostly lame to fix up the broken OS.
For me real iOS apps, are Cydia apps........

Well...I don't need a phone urgently but I have travel plans in October and having a smartphone (leeching on free wifi) is definitely a good travel companion.

I read an article about a year ago regarding an iphone app that allows you to take pictures of a sign/text in foreign language and convert it to english. I wish there's something like that for Android.

Hence now I'm debating whether to just give in and get an Android by October or forego travelling with a smartphone and get the iPhone next year. rclxub.gif

Android: more free app than iOS or the ratio of free to paid is higher in Android Market.
Apps quality maybe a bit lower than iOS, but I don't care as iOS apps are mostly lame to fix up the broken OS.
For me real iOS apps, are Cydia apps........

Hey, check out Google Goggles. It's like Google search but you're now searching with pictures. It can translate text too! But requires data connection tongue.gif

Yes, Android has 50% free apps. iOS has 25% free apps.

If you want to transfer big files between your PC and Android, you can use FTP Server. Most importantly, connection is without cable.

1) SwiFTP FTP Server
2) My FTP Server

I've tried with My FTP Server and FileZilla (in my windows), the amount time of transferring is 6 minutes for 304 MB files.

We can always login into internet banking site using Opera Mobile.

Already tried with Maybank2u, CIMBClicks and PBeBank.

Which app is best for MSN/Yahoo messaging on Android?

Best in the sense of: Stable, minimal/no errors or problems, minimal memory footprint.

Lotsa names mentioned online, but first-hand feedback from users here would be appreciated smile.gif

just curious... since this is Android section, assumption i make is that most are Android users and indirectly, should be Google users.

so, essentially, we are ok with leaving our data with Google. they are big and so far they have done no major wrongs.

data = contacts, emails, credit card details, etc... the full range of Google services and products.

however, how does one feel about other company handling your data?

companies like... Facebook, Twitter whatsapps, tango, etc... From what I understand with companies/ apps like whatsapp, they will use their server to send the messages between your contacts. potentially, they could be keeping a copy of your messages. are you guys comfortable with that?

for me... i'm not really into FB. never liked how they handle our privacy -- heck, i feel they totally want to disregard our privacy.

i've yet to install whatsapp mainly because i dun like to have another party handling my data/ communication. since i already 'trust' Google, prefer to use Gtalk, etc... However, most of my contacts (iphone users especially) is not on it...

so dilemma for me... what about you guys?

I use FB for fun. It's a great way to catch up on friends whom I don't contact as much as I want to. I don't upload pics, but friends/family upload them and tag me (I can't stop them). Certain details have to be accurate and real so old friends can find me (name, etc).

Google - they read my email and target me with personalised ads, know my appointments via Calendar, what I have on my phone via Market, etc. But I don't really care. I'm just 1 tiny dot in the sea of millions of their users.

Whatsapp - they can know my entire phonebook and my conversation with all of my contacts. This feels a bit scarier to me, so I've never had the urge to install Whatsapp. Having less control than conventional IM makes me feel insecure.

Nowadays corporations can easily identify us as individuals, knowing where we live, what we bought, what we like, how we look like, who our family members and friends are (and details about them like above), where we work, how much we earn, etc. Scary, isn't it?

ya, it is scary. so i try to limit my exposure. Google is a 'risk' i can accept. some like skype (i think now considered as part of MS) is also acceptable.

sms is still playing an important role for me -- most of my friends still like to send short messages, etc... so, i'm a bit disappointed that i can't join in as most want or are using apps like tango/ whatsapps. i'm still trying to resist installing in... trying instead to get my friends to install skype, etc...

anyway, i have a few apps installed -- mainly games. but non games ones are: tweetdeck, Google Reader, Google + (apk), 3G watchdog, LinkedIn, Barcode scanner, Dolpin HD, moboplayer and recently -- Note Everything (this is a super excellent memo apps -- and best of all, free -- plan to donate to the dev later).

- Foursquare (for checking-in. but not using anymore)
- Whatsapp (free msg-ing with those having Whatsapp acc)
- Viber (like Whatsapp but with VOIP function)

Games
- Reversi Free
- Shaky Tower

Tools
- Goggles (Google using image)

- Cinema Showtimes (showtimes in Malaysia)
- GO Launcher Ex (home launcher. the ui is a LITTLE faster than the original home. doesn't lag)

nah, i'm playing the version where you can install on your desktop. dunno where my boyf got that. haha.

i like to play games where you need to think. on desktop, i can be more accurate and get 5 stars for angry bird. plus, it lags on my Ace when the ads appears.

fruit slice just keeps slicing and slicing and slicing. no levels. even if they do, it's just the fruit flying faster. no winning, no losing. no excitement.

haha. that's just how i am la. the games aren't interesting to me only.
i know alot of people enjoying those games. smile.gif

No other game interested me as much. Cut the Rope seems intriguing. Or maybe play Slice It.

is it really good? i dread spending more money on games. i bought samurai 2 after so many ppl said its good... after playing it... realised its not sth i like. i like games like Ultima 4 & Ultima 5 (PC days). Pocket Legends, Zenonia and Inotia is nice too. Final Fantasy 7 is also another game I like. is  battlehearts similar to these games. looks like it is...

i'm using Dolphin HD.

I detest console-type RPGs because they are long-winded and I hate the party micro-management. I also don't play many action or RPG games on phones. But Battleheart is something different, it's easy to get into, is not too difficult, does not punish the player, and everything is very polished. It's the only mobile game I have ever been almost addicted to. It's nothing like Ultima or FF series, because everything is simplified for the casual player. There is no story. It's just levelling and getting better loot... and it does so excellently and cutely. Frankly, I think it's not your cup of tea laugh.gif

I use Dolphin Mini.

Yeah, only 2 attributes here, attack and defense. As for me, tried Inotia3 and Zenonia3... uninstalled after 5 minutes tongue.gif

nah, i'm playing the version where you can install on your desktop. dunno where my boyf got that. haha.

i like to play games where you need to think. on desktop, i can be more accurate and get 5 stars for angry bird. plus, it lags on my Ace when the ads appears.

fruit slice just keeps slicing and slicing and slicing. no levels. even if they do, it's just the fruit flying faster. no winning, no losing. no excitement.
haha. that's just how i am la. the games aren't interesting to me only.
i know alot of people enjoying those games. smile.gif

No other game interested me as much.  Cut the Rope seems intriguing.  Or maybe play Slice It.

Not every phone has MyFiles. Also, other file managers can do things like rename file extension, view hidden files, mount system as read/write, change file permissions, etc.

Ever had the ringtone volume accidentally changed accidentally because you inintentionally pressed the volume rocker? Introducing Volume Control +. It allows you to set the individual volumes, and lock it in place.

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.c...umePlus&feature

You can choose to lock any volume you want. Like for me I lock the ringtone and notification volume. This respects the ringer mode, like if you put silent mode, the ringtone and notification will be silenced as well. BTW you can also lock the ringer mode, in case you do not want to accidentally change the ringer mode.

Auto launches on boot too!

Any app that can password protect a file or folder? Found some on the market but not sure if they're reliable.

Also, any messenger app that can customize background / skin? Am currently using eBuddy but don't like the background color or how it overwrites my display message (any way to disable this?).

you can mass block network connection for all apps, then go enable for any app you like.

very useful you can find any toggle widgets all in one app
one of the toggles is called 'always on'... just tap on the toggle and your screen won't lock forever smile.gif

guys... asking for advice. currently using TweetDeck. i kinda like it because its a one-stop for Twitter & FB updates for me (can also do 4Square checkin).. and I can also have multiple accounts.

but there are some little bugs (or maybe i dunno how to use TweetDeck properly) like when i get the @me updates (usually FB posts), sometimes i can't seem to be able to click and go to the post to reply.

and there are just some little quirks like refresh rate now working like it should. set to 15mins but sometimes it does not update at all.

anyone can recommend another similar apps with the following requirements:
* gather posts from FB and Twitter
* support multiple Twitter account
* 4Square check-in would be nice

hello all just to share. here is an app, SmsToCalendar which help to save text messages to your calendar.

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.u...e=search_result

What it does: Save sms to calendar / facebook calendar / facebook wall.
Example of when to use it: Someone very important(e.g your wifey) sends you a text message, but you don't have time to respond to it at the moment. Use SmsToCalendar to store a reminder in your calendar in case you forget to respond.

Misc: SmsToCalendar lets you save the text message to you phone's calendar or facebook's calendar and also post it to your facebook wall.

guys... any suggestion for twitter client/ apps?

must have the following:
* multiple account
* single timeline (for the multiple account) -- meaning all the tweets from the different accounts appear on one screen

tried the following:
* tweetdeck -- it din feel as intuitive as the others i tried out
* ubersocial -- likes this... would have been good if not for the fact that it costs usd4.99 for 1 year (unlimited upgrades). plus, their support page in website had quite a number of ppl complaining about the pricing, etc...
* tweetcaster -- no single timeline for all the accounts
* plume -- not really intuitive and there was something else about this apps that i was not too happy with... can't remember.

Tasker. The alternative for smart actions for non razr androids. you can even kiss juice defender goodbye... hahaha... downside that it is a paid app. currently still trying out more, but some profiles created are toggle to 2g connection when screen is off, silent mode when reach office. switch on wifi when reach home or starbucks or any place that you frequent with wifi, auto play music when plug in my ear phone jack.

TouchPal keyboard. The better alternative to swype.

Also, any messenger app that can customize background / skin?  Am currently using eBuddy but don't like the background color or how it overwrites my display message (any way to disable this?).

The ultimate was suddenly missing from Android market a few month back. Their trying to resolve the issue but I guess they have no clue what happened.

Endup changing the free version to ultimate.

any movie player that can REALLY watch AVI format? already tried MXPlayer, cannot watch certain AVI.
At this point, Symbian OS can watch any AVI in stock already (Symbian obvious win against Android for reading all AVI format)

AVI is just the container. It's the encoding that is important. You need to know what's the encoded format. Can try VLC a try...it can even stream RMVB to me...

Remote Shortcuts is the application that allows you to remote control your favorite programs installed on a PC or Tablet simply using your Android phone as a real remote control.

Download LBE to restrict access of apps to wifi/3G

LBE is one of the best apps I've downloaded so far. Very good privacy control also, can block apps from accessing phone info,IMEI,contacts, sms, etc.

There's also the internet monitoring function so you can see how much internet you've used and how much each app is using.

But this app requires root lah

hi guys.....
just wondering if u guys know of any app which allows me to join 2 pics together?

for example i have 2 pics, i just wanna stick them left and right on a single pic. no crop, no weird styles needed.

I tried photogrid and photoshake. but they both are too complex and dont let me just join the 2 or 4 pics together. always wanna follow their built in frames and etc.
